Birdied 18 on my away course today. Actually had an eagle putt, but it was around 40 feet.

Added a couple of new birdies on my away course.

Hole 3 (a short par 3 - 130 yards) - Very tough pin-location in the back right on the top shelf of the green. I took a bit off my AW (downhill and down wind) and landed it perfectly at the top of the slope going up to the top shelf and it stopped 4 feet from the hole.

Hole 4 (A 500 yards par 5 - 4 wood 260 to the 2nd cut on the right. Hit my 5 iron (a bit of a flyer lie) over the lake to the fringe around 10 yards from the pin from there and made the up'n'down from there.

I've made par or better on all holes on the course now (6 rounds into the season)

Going birdie-hunting again this afternoon 😉

Got another one yesterday on the local non home course:

Hole 13 (355 yards par 4) - teeshot is uphill and yesterday it was into wind, so I hit a 4W around 210 yards to the FW on top of the hill leaving me with 125 yards downhill shot into wind to a front center pin (easiest pin on that green) on long narrow green. Hit a knock down little fade with my PW and was left with 12 feet and made the putt!

Birdied 2 and 12 today.  Made a 15 footer on 2 and a kick-in on 12. Had both holes previously so no change on the spreadsheet.

The race is officially on, @sjduffers.  April was swirling the toilet bowl after a decent start in March.  Then the 9th hole at Pheasant Run cooperated.  We are tied, for now (Away Courses). Perhaps you have not been recording your data?  How far behind will I be when you update things?

Yesterday's round added two pars to my away composite (holes six and twelve).   However, the round was played alone, so I could not post for handicap purposes -- I hope it's okay to include in this challenge.  No birdies yesterday (weird round all-around anyway).

No backlog, I'm afraid. The few birdies I am making are ones I have already got, many times over. The others remain elusive, despite some of them being relatively easy (eg par 5s, or shorter par 4s). But the season is still long, and in fact probably only just beginning in earnest for you, @bkuehn1952  The race is on! 🙂

Knocked out 2, 3, and 4 today at Whispering Woods. We played 1-9, 10, 11, 12… and then jumped to 18 as we had to go. I had a number of other birdie putts, but you're not gonna make 'em all outside of three feet.

Snagged another on #6 yesterday.  Probably third one this year on that hole.  It's a short par 4, drivable for some of you guys, not me, that typically leaves a SW in to a small sloping green, well protected with traps if you fall short.  I hit my wedge about 12 feet past the pin and drained it for the bird.

Nice: 3 birdies in a row!!  What is your personal best, as how many consecutive birdies? The record on the PGA Tour is something crazy like 8!

I think mine is a measly 2. And most birdies in a round is 4, so far.

Sorry if it's a little bit  :offtopic:

I think four?

I don't make a lot of birdies. But I make few bogeys/worse, too.

2 birdies today and 2 yesterday, but only 1 of them to get recorded as a new birdie for the year.  5 holes remaining to birdie to complete all 18 this year.  One is a par 5 and one is a par 3.  The other 3 are long par 4s that I have problems reaching in regulation.  While I'm sure the par 5 and par 3 will not be a problem, I'm thinking the remaining par 4s might give me issues (unless I move to the next set of tees forward).

Last 2 rounds saw a few birdies, but not #7, 9, 10 or 11! Number 7 is the last par 5 I need and 11 is the shortest par 3 on the course. I got the toughest holes out of the way early, so no excuses!

Zero away birdies today. Lots of chances.

5th round of the season on my home course and I finally got my first birdie:

Hole 15 - 130 yards par 3. Island green with nothing to land on except the green. Hit a soft AW to the middle of the green with 11 feet left to the pin and finally drained one!

In the bag: Callaway Mavrik SZ 10,5 driver (X stiff), Cobra King 4 wood (Stiff, 2006 model), Callaway Mavrik irons 4 - P+A (stiff), Cobra King Pur wedges 52, 56 and 60 (stiff) and Odessey white steel putter.  Very happy with the set and the gapping.

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
