Course You Could Play Every Day?

This stems from another one of the completely meaningless debates had after a round of golf with the group. We are all members of a private club that has the benefit of making us members at four other clubs in the immediate area. So we play different courses other than our home club (which is nice so we don't get sick of playing the same golf course over and over). We all agree that this is great. But, we all were having a conversation about any golf course that we could join and just play that course strictly for the remainder of our golf careers (and not get sick of it).  Our picks were the following:

Pinehurst #2

Oakland Hills country club (two votes)

Whistling Straights

Crystal Downs (my vote) although there is another course in Michigan that I would pick but it's only 9 holes.

Seminole

Greywalls (Marquette MI)

Any Steamstrong course (prefer the Red)

This was based on the fact that we had to have played the course before (I would pick Cypress Point if not).

Anybody got any favorites?

I sure as heck wouldn’t pick a course I could only play 3-4 months out of the year….😁

You can usually get 6 months.

Ah, I missed that.   I think it would be Pinehurst #2.   I had such a wonderful time years ago at Pinehurst and that was my favorite course.   I went there when #8 was due.   Going back is in the running for my 50th birthday next year.

Kingsbarns Golf Links - hard to imagine getting tired of that place.

Locally, Pierce Lake.  It fits my game and with yardages from 7,000 yards to 4,000 I think we could vary the layout to make it interesting.

Every day sounds like a hell of a lot of golf.

It would probably need to be a course very near my house.

I have a few favorites, courses I can't imagine getting tired of, and I'm not sure I could narrow it to a single one.  Lahinch in Ireland, Royal Dornoch in Scotland, MidPines in the Pinehurst area.

Of the courses I've played, there are a few that I've absolutely loved playing.

Baltimore CC - East Course

Congressional CC - Blue Course

Calusa Pines

Pinehurst #2

Bella Collina

Kapalua - Plantation Course

Belgrade Lakes

But if I had to pick one, it would probably be Kapalua, golf, beach and lots of sun, wouldn't get much better.

Streamsong Blue. Have only played Blue.

I have not played Red or Black but I am sure they would probably be just as great or even better. If preferences others like yourself were to considered Red is the star. Or is it Black now?.. ha.

It has been a few years but I had an amazing experience playing there. Picturesque, lot of elevated tees which I love, awesome green complexes, lot of shots needing a second thought, and set in a windswept, open landscape. The caddie was great too.

Not to be dramatic but I remember thinking would be fine if I keeled over and died (hopefully of old age..) walking on the grounds there.

Great.  They would probably bury you on the 18th green and we would all complain about that stupid hump in the middle with the hole tucked behind it.

Yah, putting on flat greens ain't hard enough so it would make perfect sense to recruit a dead old man to terrorize them poor unsuspecting golfers..ha ha.

Great choice!  I choose Kapalua as well.  I haven't played all that many nice courses, but I could also choose Torrey, but no, Kapalua is my choice.

Funny enough, there is a course right down the street from me right now (San Clemente, CA) called Bella Collina and I know that is not the one you're talking about because that course stinks. 😉

Torrey would be in my top three. I don't think anyone could ever get tired of that walk. The golf ain't bad either.. 😄

Kapalua is awesome, and no I've not played that Bella Collina. The Club at Bella Collina I've played is in Montverde Florida, designed by Faldo.

I must be the only one who doesn't like any of the Streamsong courses.

Yah, I think mentioned being less than impressed with the courses, especially the greens IIRC

My caddie read the greens for me and he read them well so it didn't hurt me much.

I would choose Gamble Sands in WA. I liked Kapalua but not enough to play every day.

I was thinking, if they had clown mouths and windmills, it would've been more enjoyable.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
