Finally birdied one. Riding a cart instead of walking, but I'll still count it. Hole #6. 1/18.

Added a new one today, #7 at Green Knoll.   Hit 8i to 3’, made the putt. Simple game 😉

I played two away courses the past few days.

At Rock Barn (Jones course) I birdied: 2, 8, 14, and 18. At LPGA International (Hills course) I birdied only 3 and 10.

Fortunately (mostly because it's early in the year), all were unclaimed so I'm up to seven birdies. Actually I need to look at my Federal Club round…

Looks like I had birdies on… 7, 9, 10, 13, and 16 (most were par fives). So, all but 10 was new (or, they all were, but since I'm adding it later… they're not).

Forest Creek is in the list, but I deleted the round as it was just kind of goofing off. No birdies at Mid Pines a while ago, either.

Birdied the short par 5 #17 at Quail Brook. Smoked a drive over the trees on the right side and drew it back into the fairway. Caught the slope and ended up with a wedge in. Put it on to about 20' past the hole and missed the eagle putt. Tap-in birdie.

Home course #9 is a 385 yard par 4 with bunkers right and left. Hit driver on the back side of right bunker and it got hung up in the rough. I had 140 downhill, ball below feet with a tree blocking me slightly. PW with a cut that floated and hit soft 4 feet from pin. Downhill left edge for the 3.

I only have 4, 11, 15, 16, and 18 left!

Played Whispering Woods today. Mostly a practice round, but if I played a few good shots and didn't move the ball or anything, and made birdie, I counted it.

So… birdied 5 and 12. Both are new as I only had 6 and 7 previously in one round on the course. So, 5-7 and 12 are done now.

Birdied 15 and 16 at an away course this morning (Woodmont CC, North). 16 was a duplicate, but 15 was new.

Birdies at 7, 12, and one I needed at 15.

At 7 hit 7 iron 162 to 5 feet. On 12, driver 5 iron to 15 feet and 2 putts. The new hole is 15 and is 350 and pinches at 240 so it was a week 5 wood into the right bunker and a 7 iron to 30 feet. I hit it uphill firm just outside right 6 inches and in the last 4 feet it broke and caught the low side.

Man, it has been a slow year for birdies considering how much I’ve been playing, but got another one this weekend.  Par 5, on in two, lipped out a 15 ft Eagle putt, got the Birdie.

Two birdies today, back to back, on #2 and #3 at Green Knoll.

Hit hybrid off the tee on #2 to the left edge of the fairway then 3/4 GW inside a foot.

Followed that shot by flushing a 7i on #3 3’ right of the hole.

Then I topped my driver on #4, but that’s OT 😜

    • Maybe it would have gone in.  Maybe it would have hit the back edge and continued rolling 4 or 5 feet past.  What I am completely certain about is that the flagstick slowed the ball and kept it close enough for an easy tap-in.

    • No way that ball doesn’t go in with the flag stick out. That’s just a rare one there.
    • I started off playing the Kirkland balls this year.  I haven't seen scuffing any different than any other tour ball.  But I usually start with a new ball every round and retire the used ball to the practice pile.  I've gone through maybe two dozen balls, losing some and retiring some.  But last round I played a TP5 and now seriously having second thoughts on the Kirkland ball.  I think the Kirk's perform well in a simulator but in real life they just don't fly as far, launch lower, and have too much spin on the driver (for me).  Sure you can spin the crap out of them with a wedge.  But there must be a difference in the aerodynamics.  With the TP5 I was hitting my drives 10 to 20+ yards further on average and much higher launch (hole by hole vs last time I played the same course).  But that was just one round so who knows (e.g. temperature, wind, fairway firmness, etc).  But definitely a difference off the driver.  5 wood carry was 15 yards further.   You can look at data on MyGolfSpy at the differences: https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/golfspy.t/viz/MyGolfSpy2021GolfBallTest/2021GolfBallData But do they do these tests by actually hitting balls into a real range and measuring where they land?  I doubt it.  Simulator tests assume an aero profile given the launch and spin.   So is kirkland a good value, absolutely especially if you lose balls every round.  But is there something left on the table?  Probably.  Maybe not 20 yards of driver, but my gut says it's not exactly optimal for me.  So i got a box of TP5's and am going to test out the difference next couple rounds.
