Grayson Murray Passed Away

Grayson Murray, who won his second PGA TOUR title at this year’s Sony Open in Hawaii...

That's horrible to hear, 30 years old. I can only hope for his families sake at least it was from a medical issue and not something else. No cause of death listed anywhere, just articles that make it a point that he' was a  recovering alcoholic and battled with depression. RIP Grayson.

Tweets say that he was looking unwell and withdrew on the 17th on Friday. Sad to hear. Curious as to what the issue was, though.

Omg…what a tragedy. I wonder if he had an undiagnosed heart condition?

Was listening to Nance and Co report (I'm watching a delayed replay of today's round) and they reported that he had just had a string of bogies and when he finished the 17th he told his playing mates "I'm done" and went to the tent and WD.  Its sad that his life is over at 30 but maybe it speaks to the pressures that these guys deal with week in and week out.

Most likely  suicide as  he  had taken a  leave from the tour  before due to severe  depression. It  hits  many of  us for  many reasons

This is the  cutoff  part where he says  he  is taking a  medical leave. Godspeed

Let's not speculate on things like that.

Tragic. I can only imagine how the family must feel. There was a prominent lady golfer in my home town that won the State Am several times, coached the men's Jr College team and who was simply well thought of around here. Same thing.....battled depression and took her own life. Happened during COVID. For us that have never experienced serious depression it can be hard to understand. But it's a serious problem and happens too frequently.

I can not imagine what was going through his mind when he walked off the golf course and WD. Jesus, what a f'd up situation. His poor parents must be devastated. Sad thing he will be more remembered  for this than his Tour career. He was kind of an under the radar guy for me and maybe others. Not like his name is mentioned in likely winners of an event. I hope the network/ PGAT does a nice respectful piece on him. I'm out of the country so I can't view the event. I'm sure it's cast a dark cloud over this week's event. Two weeks now, two tragic stories. On a side note, I remember getting the annual suicide prevention classes every year in the Army. One thing a guy said was when you ask some one how they are doing, mean it. You never know when your words can make a positive difference. Well I'm rambling, just a horrible story. Take care all.

The  problem is  by not talking about  it keeps  it taboo. Hearing  what Murray himself said about depression he would  want it  talked about  openly so it  might  help someone else. Severe depression is an all consuming cancer.

I agree. This is one of those subjects that people are uncomfortable talking about. It's 2024 and it still feels stigmatized.

    • Day 45 (16 Jun 24) -  Happy Father's Day all - got in a few swings with the clubs, focused on alignment for chipping and pitching.  For me if the target it 12noon, I need to have my feet somewhere around 11 for a solid dead on line pitch/chip.  Worked from about 5yds out to 25yds.  Worked through a series of clubs - 54, PW, 8i and 6i - noting flight patterns of each.
    • day 94. Realized I’m getting a little too handsy. Worked on getting the club into good places and much shorter, slower swings to learn the movement.
    • 16th was a bit of loss of concentration and 18th looked like a low percentage putt from get go. I thought he ran out of mental gas those last few holes.
    • Played a good round today in which other than butchering a recovery shot on 14th for a double bogey six it was a fairly non-eventful round with five bogeys and a birdie until an eagle on 18th courtesy of a season best 207 yard 4 iron to eight feet that I then drained. Love it when par 5s are downwind. Came home and recorded an unrehearsed video. Wasn't worth posting. Still looks the same - armsy/handsy. Will keep working.
