He completes the douchiest current foursome of with Fatrick, Poulter and Sergio. Or in honor of the Olympics, the douchiest relay team. 😂

That's my take away. The BS about setting an example for Greyserman does not pass the smell test.

Kuchar is too selfish/self-centered to spend an extra second, let alone hanging around on a Monday to benefit anyone else. It's too much of a stretch for him to do it for sake of a slow-play protest either.

This can't be about anyone but himself.

This..

What a complete lack of consideration for other people, many of whom will be paid a fraction of the money he has pocketed and many who will possibly have been volunteering. In the four ball of douche he is definitely included.

Greyserman did not enjoy the last 6 holes did he.

Why should Matt harm himself for the benefit of the rest of the field or the convenience of the tournament staff? If he considered important the score of the last hole, then it was ok for him waiting until the next day to finish his round. Good for him for standing up for what he believed and not cave under the criticism that was about to fall over him.
Liked him even more when he said that he wasn't on social media either! 👏

He  could  have taken out  his  putter and finished the hole putting from the fairway and  it would  have  made  no difference to him or anyone else.

Same dumb schtick since joining.

As someone said above, just because it's your right to do something doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. We live in a world with other people, and it was a self-centered move.

He's being appropriately pilloried for it, IMO.

How would him have finishing the hole on Sunday harmed himself?

As multiple people in this thread have already stated, whether he made birdie par or bogey it would not have affected his playoff positioning, change his ability to support himself/his family financially, and his job security for next season.

Also you're assuming that had he played it out on Sunday that automatically would have brought "harm" (whatever that means) onto himself. For all we know he might have hit a better shot on Sunday than he did Monday.

It is a fact that his decision benefitted himself while inconveniencing dozens to possibly 100+ others.

It is not a fact that had he finished the hole Sunday that would have brought harm onto himself.

How did it benefit him to wait until Monday? Financially? Also, how many ranking points difference would it have made? That's more than a financial gain. That could be the difference between playing in the Masters vs not.

@p1n9183 claimed Kuchar would have been harmed had he finished Sunday which is not something we know for a fact.

I don't think we need to know he would have been harmed, just that he might have been.

He weighed his potential (and minuscule) amount of "harm" against the for-certain "harm" to about 70 to 100 other people and came down, in no great surprise, in favor of himself.

Go figure.

One shot better would have given him three more OWGR points. 0.06 on his average, which is 4 places higher in the current OWGR (87 vs 91). Depending on how he plays over the next six months, that could be the difference between 50th and 51st come time for the Masters. Do you think that's unreasonable for him to care about that?

Given the circumstances, absolutely.

As has been said, it's not like he was guaranteed a bogey if he finished, or a par if he played the next day.

His "reason" was bullshit, too: he supposedly did it as a protest because he wasn't told they were still in the fairway on 18 when he hit into them.

Dude's 46. Late in the back nine of a PGA Tour career. Admirable he's still top 100, but… dude. Get out of the way.

What you’re saying is he had a number of personal reasons to ignore the consequences of extending the tournament one more day for other people? That’s pretty much what everyone has said in this thread. I think on that we are all in agreement. Where people stand on different sides is whether his actions were justified or not.

You know what I just realized this reminds me of? People who go into a restaurant five minutes before closing for a full service meal.

Right. He could have just said that if these were the reasons he was protecting for and people would find it a bit more palatable. Instead he BSed about a protest, dragging bunch of collateral innocents with him.

Yes, nobody died or anything but dude is afflicted with serious myopia and is a total Karen.
