Before 2005-ish, I had a leather tri-fold wallet.

For about the last 20 years, I've used this: https://moneyclamp.com/collections/core/products/geneva-black-matte-rfid-wallet. Many of you have or had them, too: I gave them out at Newport Cups and some other things, I think.

Well, the metal fatigues and they break every 5-7 years or so. I had three from the TST order back nearly 20 years ago, but my last one broke yesterday.

In my wallet right now, I have about six credit or debit cards on one side (some personal, some business), things like my PGA card, health insurance card, etc. on the other side, and my driver's license and digital business card (NFC and QR code) in the middle, with anywhere between ten and whatever number of bills this shows (I thinned this out a bit after taking this photo, but admittedly I like paying for things in cash, particularly from small businesses or to tip):

image.jpeg

I see, like many of you probably do, all those wallet ads on Instagram. Or Kickstarter. There are a lot of options out there.

So, for those of you who carry wallets and who still carry some cash… (TBH I'm more likely to drop some credit/debit cards from my wallet and just use them via Apple Pay than I am to not carry more than a few bills of cash) what wallet are y'all using? What's good?

I don't think I want one of those "all metal" wallets, but maybe that's just the updated version of what I have now, and maybe that's fine. I've seen the money clip type things that are magnetic, but… I feel like those might only work with about six bills of "thickness." Otherwise, it feels like it'd have to be a strong magnet, and I'm not sure I want a strong magnet on my wallet as I chuck it in my golf bag, a cart, near my phone, by credit cards or hotel door keys… etc.

So, again… what do y'all use? Or am I just really old and nobody uses wallets?

I purchased this one in November of 2018 from Amazon and it has held up incredibly well considering the price point.

But I am also starting to look for a new one now though because it gets annoying whenever I have cash because the bills get folded in half so the thickness increases quickly with just a few bills plus its a major pain when someone hands me change to try and get it back into the wallet in the correct order and folded in half properly especially if I'm carrying bags or items or something else. That part has always bugged me it's just gotten annoying enough lately to where I want something different.

Edit: @iacas are you aware that there's a lifetime warranty on yours? Looks like you could get a new one for like $25

Yes, but they break every 5-7 years. So… Meh. I'm looking at alternatives. I also don't like how they call it a lifetime warranty… but give you $25 off a product (I was looking to get the Munich if I stuck with MoneyClamps).

Way back when I got 2 Ridge Wallets off their Kickstarter campaign. ... that was maybe 2013ish.

I gave one away and have been using the other one ever since. No complaints.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

None seem to hold much cash.

I have 11 cards (counting my driver’s license and stuff).

You could go Old School for the cash.  The bands do get brittle after time but are cheap to replace.

I have exactly 11 cards in mine right now.
Here's some pix of it with 11 cards and 18 bills.

I got the ridge wallet that has the elastic strap to hold the money. The ridge wallet itself is built great. I am getting use to using the built in strap. I had the one in the image above with the metal money clip and it worked great.

Since I got my 2nd one, I use the old ridge wallet for gift cards and misc cards.

I've been looking at this one but haven't pulled the trigger yet:

During Christmas they were 20% off.  I don't see that price now.

Top two choices:

This billfold’s classic good looks and slim profile hide a clever secret – a concealed section inside that keeps extra bills, cards or coins out of sight.

The strong, slim, and sustainable ridge wallet is now available as forged carbon wallet. The anodized aluminum plating lets you enjoy a scratch-resistant surface.

Distant third:

This was one I considered for a bit too:

I have been somewhat looking into a new wallet as well. I was curious about the ridge since none of my friends seems to carry them.  I move to my old Sandtrap with money clip one when we are going out somewhere. I change when I am working though. Strange, I know...haha. I like the idea of the Ridge, but I also like the Bellroy you posted. I have not seen that one. I carry maybe 8 cards plus the driver's license and some cash

I ordered both the Ridge and the Bellroy. I might keep the one that arrives first, I might try both and return one… I don't know.

I have the Bellroy. I really like it. The hidden pockets are a neat idea. I have about 8 cards in it too.

I've got other Bellroy stuff and like it. I've looked at their wallets, but I've been concerned that the owl logo would snag on my pocket. Has that ever been a problem for you?

It's a little raised bump, isn't it? Probably only a few mm.

No. It’s just a small logo and it don’t wear skinny jeans. 😜

I have a ridge but my favorite option is to just use a binder clip. Wrap your cash around your cards to make a little sleeve and you’re good to go. My family apparently thought I was just poor and got me a ridge as a Christmas gift so I’ll use it until it wears out.

    • Very possibly - I also think there is a certain amount of selective memory. People remember when they had a good thought process and hit a good shot and when they had a bad thought process and hit a bad shot, which reinforces the idea that it's the thought process that led to the outcome. I think people can be prone to forget the good thought process that ended up being a bad shot and the bad thought process that led to a good shot. I'm also fairly certain that a lot of times people have a good thought process, hit a bad shot and then assume that they must have had a bad thought process.  What's a little more difficult (if not impossible) is to figure out the likelihood of hitting a good shot given different thought processes. It's plausible that a good mental process might mean you're 5% more likely to hit a better shot than a worse one. To actually determine if that's the case would take an awful lot of shots from a lot of people with definable good/bad thought processes. Not sure that's a reasonable or doable test.
    • It could  be also getting lazy with your routine. I agree, you can’t focus your self to a swing you don’t practice and make your own.
    • Agree… Adding this to my notes….
    • This is my take on it, as well. You don’t top the ball because you didn’t think hard enough, but screwing up the following shot because you’re angry about the last one and didn’t give it enough effort can certainly be partially attributed to lack of mental fortitude. Honestly I think most people like to say that golf is mostly mental because they want to tell themselves they’re better than they actually are.
    • Rafa Nadel swing is awful and that's coming from my swing that's not good but if he is an 0 handicap then his tennis skills grant him to hit the ball a far distance?,I dont know but I would say that's not a scratch drive distance (250 -280yds) swing, more like a beginner, I now appreciate my own swing now..lol
