I bent my wedges because I know the shots that i need at my home course. I personally need to find new irons because I out drive everyone I play with but 20-30 yards on good shots but they hit their irons the same distance or further than me.

They've got Stiff or maybe even Regular shafts. You've got X-Stiff.  Could that explain it? You hit a fade and they hit mostly draws?

Here goes:

**On a flat and relatively slow course without wind or weather effects, 70˚F at sea level.

Driver: 7.5 loft, 1 degree open, 45": I hit it so seldom that I can only estimate 290 carry and 310 total on good hits. I need a shaft change though, as it's only an S.

3w: 13.5 loft, 2 degrees open, 42.75": I hit it about 260 carry off the deck on a normal shot, and I can get over 280 with roll. Off the tee it's more like 280/295. Also needs a reshaft. It is titanium, though.

2h: 17 loft, 41": I hit it up to 270 off the deck and up to 280 off the tee, it usually goes so high when I hit it for power that it will stop. However, it's more typically my 255 club off the deck and 260 off the tee with normal height shots. Also needs a reshaft.

3i: 21 loft, 39": Love this club, I hit it for 240-250 off the tee. Off the deck, I can carry it about 225 without trouble, and can hit it high enough to carry around 240 and stop. Ideal distance is about 232 .

5i: 27 loft, 38": 200-210 off the deck, 220 for a power shot or tee shot. I typically play it as my 205 club.

7i: 35 loft, 37": I hit this club from 165 to 190 off the deck, typically it's my 180 carry club. I can hit it up to 200 off a tee with a draw, which is a handy shot at my course.

9i: 43 loft, 36": I hit it 145 to 160 normally, usually very high. I like a yardage of 152 for a controlled approach shot and can hit it very straight.

48˚: I hit it from 120 to 140 and can get it over 150. I like 135 for this club, which is the distance I seek to set up my approach. I like to hit this club for partial shots as it's more forgiving than my other wedges and has a proper, heavy shaft in it.

56˚: I hit it about 115 on average, maximum of 130 but that spins a ridiculous amount. I play this from 100 as well, but it's a yardage I don't like to get much.

62˚: I hit it when I'm inside 80 yards, only partial swings. I can hit it 120 if I really want to make a big pitch mark, but that requires delofting it significantly, hitting off the toe, and keeping my balance in the finish. It's too high lofted and the shaft isn't enough to allow this club to be hit hard.

Since I don't carry a full set of irons yet, I hit a fair number of in between yardages, especially 8i yardage. I tend to hit the short club harder most of the time, sometimes even choking up; hence some of my irons being able to go extra far. Being able to pick and choose from my clubs for a given yardage is a good thing, and a major strength of my game.

I'm also going to get a 54 and 60, which I'd want to fly 120 and 100 yards on full shots. My irons have soft stepped X C tapers, which is almost an ideal shaft for me, but my highest wedges and my long clubs have stock shafts in the firm to stiff range.

Damn you guys are all long. At my local course i'm known as a long hitter. If we have a longest drive competition when on the fairway i usually claim the price,

but if i compare to the numbers given here i'm just a shorty.

My average drive is 273 ( yards )

During wintertime i practice allot at an indoor golf facility. It works great to keep the distances.

In practice rounds i write down the numbers and keep them in a spreadsheet, i than don't count the 5 shortest and the 5 longest.

To eliminate the extreem mishits and the extreme well struck ones.

No doubt. But those are his stock distances. Its laughable to see people post 300 yard drive averages. I've seen people hit 300 yard drives but their average was more like 240-250.

No doubt. Sometimes I read this thread and think I should just give up.

True.  Even for myself, I'll give a true accounting of my "average carry" with the driver, but with my irons, I'll be giving the distances I average on good hits only.  But I seriously don't know what that is.  It seems like it changes weekly by +/-5 yards or so, and then with wind...who knows?

You sound similar to me.  I'm almost always the longest hitter in my groups (except once recently, see below), but online my distances just sound okay.

Recently, though, I played with a guy who hit it like a tour-level player in terms of distance and sound.  I was seriously astonished.  I hit the ball far, and sometimes people will admire my shots, and this day that role was reversed.  He was no bigger than me and in fact probably 15 lbs smaller.  Apparently he used to play baseball for USC or something though.  Anyway, he consistently hit every club 15-20 yards further than I did. I hit my 3w 240, he'd hit his 260.  I hit my Driver 275, he'd hit his 295...on average.  He hit down on the ball and the flight was completely different from mine.  I was playing from the blues and he played from the blacks, and we both hit 3 iron into a par 3 with a strong headwind.  He had about 220 and I had about 195, and it felt like a 15MPH headwind.  His 3 iron started like a low bullet before reaching it's apex no higher than 25-30 feet off the ground, whereas I hit all of my clubs very high in the air.

The kicker?  He said he was a 15 handicap.  Apparently he's the guy that we read about in these threads that can average 290 carry and struggles making bogey golf.  Difference is he's only been playing 2 years and I could see that he didn't know course management or how to control his distances.  Almost every approach shot was long and left.  It took me 2 years to get decent pitching and chipping around the greens since I don't like to practice it, and I'm sure he's just getting there.
