I don't have the game to rock a staff bag (or have any business wearing a white belt on the coursel for that matter)

If you want a staff bag, get one.  If anyone judges you or has a problem with it, thats on them, not you.  I personally think staff bags are cool and Id love to go out and blow $500 on a Mizuno staff bag.

I personally feel that anyone who is willing to lug around a giant bag is only punishing themselves. If they either make someone else carry them, or use a cart, then they're pretentious.

Staff bags are great. Why ?. Because although they due in fact have pockets and room for anything you want to bring with you, more importantly they have either a 10" or 10.5 inch top which means no jamming of those expensive clubs into your bag anymore and they are made of the best materials which means they last forever. Guys will advocate cart or carry bags, but neglect to tell you their buying a new one every 4 to 5 years whereas the Staff will last you 15 to 20 years. I will grant you that with all the logos they will draw some attention so here's an idea for ya. Buy the Burton staff bag online for $250. It's all black with no logos. So you have the best of both worlds. A big bag without the loud logo's your paranoid will draw attention to you. And your buddys are spending $129 every 5 years for thier stand bags while your bag is better all around, bought only once and it last 20 years. I know a lot of golfers (my brother included) who seem to think thier noble becasue they walk and carry their bag. The problem is that for the over 50 crowd. thier legs and shoulders are tired on the back nine and thats where you take them down bro !

oh, and p.s.You could today buy a Calloway staff RzarX bag for $199 (if you don't mind the logo's) online. Think about that the next time your at the store thinking about plopping down $99 to $179 for that cart or stand bag. GOLF is YOUR time. Do what YOU want to do. I started in the game caddying in 1971. I know what I am talking about.

Titleist makes a mid staff bag that's pretty nice, I would consider one of those but not the huge ones.

Their mid-size staff bag is a really nice bag. I think it looks great and it's small enough that it doesn't weigh a ton and it fits well on a cart. I seriously considered buying that bag at one time but I don't have any Titleist clubs (at least not currently) and that would bother me. However, I did recently pick up the Sun Mountain Tour Series cart bag. Like the mid-size Titleist bag, it fits well on a cart and isn't too heavy. I also like that it has a 15-way top, which is something I haven't seen on a staff bag before. I know that there are people that will look at my bag and make certain assumptions about my game, but I don't really care... I like that I have room for my tripod and a few extras, and since I don't walk, the extra weight compared to a stand bag is a non issue. For the odd occasion that I do carry my bag, I still have my SM Four 5, which is plenty light enough to walk with.

For those who are unfamiliar with the SM Tour Series cart bag, this is it:

I wanted to buy one of those titleist midsize staff bags because I liked the look (I still do) but when you think about it those things are for people who have caddies and people carrying their bags. They are designed for the rich guy or tour player so since they have caddies, they don't need to pry them on a cart. I bought one then returned it because it didn't fit my game, didn't fit on carts, and needless to say I didn't play Titleist clubs or balls so it was unfitting. Lol

Pretentious or not - i am buying one if it fits in the trunk of my car - which i am not sure it will.

Definitely won't fit in my current trunk or that of the next car I'm planning to buy.  They don't store bags for you at your club?

they do, but it costs extra. Besides I would rather have them at home since I do play other places sometimes and am more apt to hit a range at night than I am at the club.

I was only recently thinking of owning a second bag, currently have a lightweight stand bag perfect for carrying in summer but just recently, as I also play through winter, could do with a bigger bag to accommodate extra clothing! they come in all sizes, but I'd never buy a staff bag as we often mock them when we see them, especially the "all the gear, but no idea" player who has all the expensive latest stuff but can't break 100! Personally I just don't see the need for a bag at staff size unless your smuggling children through customs!

Taylor made a big r11 stand bag vinyl I believe and white haha not for long too heavy to carry and not much more room than a 9" staff...I've switched to the 11" mac daddy and years ago and always keep a good stand bag(waterproof) around ... Considering some of the pants I see out there I don't think a staff bag is pretentious it just has it niche

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
