I finished watching Good Girls Revolt.

I liked it, though I wish it moved a bit more quickly.

And because I saw it on the Amazon Prime app, I'm watching the first episode of The Newsroom again.

Saw the first 3 episodes, have been meaning to binge the rest of the season. You might like Insecure.

The Good Place is cute. Timeless is bland. Pitch is better than I expected. American Horror Story as usual is losing me after 5 episodes. Not interested in Netflix's The Crown, they keep throwing so much money at high production tv that turns out very mediocre.

Best recent tv is basically Westworld and Black Mirror.

Is the US co-opting international content creators? 

Black Mirror, a very British tv series, taken over by Netflix.

The Crown, another British show, costing as much as Westworld, $100m USD, also Netflix, released today in US.

Deutschland 86, the second series of a German TV show, picked up by Amazon.  

Also Marseille, a French TV show made by Netflix.

While I'm glad we have all this content, slightly uncomfortable with our hands in the content of other countries. Netflix wanted to buy The Great British Bake Off for goodness sake. What if the BBC bought Real Housewives of America? These are weird times.

When I travel to foreign countries they have a ton of U.S. shows on TV.

US shows play in foreign countries yes, but they weren't created by them. The thing is Netflix bought/controls Black Mirror and The Crown. Channel 4 and The BBC respectively, who would normally run and distribute the shows were it not for Netflix, don't because they were outbidded. Same with Marseille but w/a French channel. And Amazon w/Deutschland from a German channel. That would be like the BBC outbidding FX for Justified, a very American show, then them telling FX how to run it. 

You could see a teeny bit of Netlfix wanted me to do it this way in the shows - American characteristics tossed into another country's tv series.

I suspect it's pretty simple - the U.S. is a massive market. A teeny fraction of U.S. viewers would equal a veritable super hit in the U.K. just because of the population.

Very true. Also Netflix is spending money like there's no tomorrow that they've exhausted domestic content sources. We'll see if they can keep this up. It is crazy how many new shows Netflix and Amazon have now. Even if you devoted yourself full time, like, tv critics, you cannot keep up.

Been a while since I've watched South Park, but my daughter was home and we were watching Comedy Central when Douche and Turd was on.  This was on back in 2004 and my daughter who is 22 says, pretty ironic that they got the election so correct in 2016.

Yeah the Simpsons apparently predicted Trump winning 20 years ago too or something.  There's a youtube video of it I believe but I haven't watched it yet.

Not sure if mentioned yet but Stranger Things on Netflix is freaking awesome!

I was hoping Mars on the National Geographic Channel would be good, but I was disappointed. They made it half documentary, half fiction. The fiction part was lame IMO. It reminded me of those History Channel reenactment shows where low budget actors pretend to be George Washington. Do one or the other, documentary or Sci-Fi.

Bummer. I recorded the first episode (or is it just one episode?). Haven't watched it yet.
