If I got a hole in one at my home course, odds are the only people in the club house would be me, my playing partner, the pro shop manager, and a few seniors just hanging out, oh and a 13 year old golden retriever that loves to mooch off of people and get a chunk of somebody's sandwich. I'd have to buy non-alcoholic drinks anyways.... so it'd end up costing me like 8 bucks. Mountain Dews for everybody!

Absolutely I would. It's a great occasion that I would want to remember.

A story from last week - A player with a reputation for having deep pockets and short arms makes a hole in one. Playing partner makes call to club house, club captain organises everyone he can contact to get down the club! Leading to a much bigger bar bill than anticipated.

Nope not me, not many lefties at the club though.

One of the best players is "starring" in one of the The Only Way is Essex spin offs, it is truly awful.

Where do you play?

Yes, yes and yes!  I had 3 and bought one drink for everyone each time.  The only time I was annoyed was when someone I didn’t know ordered a double.  I found that to be rude!  I couldn’t imagine skipping out... it’s always time to celebrate and some did buy me drinks and when others have one, I always send one over to them.

Luckily the last HIO only ran me $111.  The first time was 7 times that.

4 aces. The first 2 were during the week, with only my playing partners, the club pro, and the bartender in the clubhouse at the end of the round. Bought drinks for them all. The other 2 aces are at the club I belong to now. Luckily, we have insurance. The proper procedure for us is to announce what day we are buying the drinks. We can limit as to what we type of beverages we will buy, so the current practice is a pitcher of beer per foursome, as well as soft drinks, iced tea, etc. The last ace I had, the insurance paid out $200, and the total bar bill, including tip was about $240.

I just buy food/beverages for the group I was playing with when an ace luckily shows up. The rest of the club house can fend for themselves.

Its a tradition that still holds at my club and I have hole in one insurance tagged onto my cover for all things golf . Id be more than happy to buy the round if I were lucky enough to achieve the feat .

Ive been to some clubs where hole in one is marked by the player buying a bottle (normally brandy or Whisky) and leaving it on the bar with a few shot glasses . This seems a good compromise of marking the occasion and not having to sell the family silver to pay for it .

I voted no on the entire clubhouse, but I would vote yes for my group of friends.

The last one I had cost me about $200.00. Fortunately their were only about 20-25 people in bar. Usually there is more than that.

The club i got two of my hole in ones at demanded you buy for the clubhouse if you get an ace. Which happened. But they had hole in one insurance for that kind of thing since the grill room at this club was usually very busy.  So it wasn't really a big deal. Personally, i think you should only buy for those who witnessed it, not the entire clubhouse. Which is what i did for the other ace ive had since ive been drinking age.

Every time I see this question I think "Maybe some day I'll find out what I'd actually do."

I think that buying drinks for your foursome is about all that's required, and even that's subject to your ability to afford it.

My only hole in one was during men's league at my club.  Our tradition is to buy a keg the next week and it sits outside the pro shop before the round.  If I were to get a hole in one with my buddies, I would just buy for them and not the whole clubhouse.

I've never had one, BUT when I finally do have one I will buy for everyone in my group as well as all the guys I know who happen to be at the bar when I get finished. Guys I do not know personally can buy their own friggin drinks.

I can't believe that the poll is leaning to "NO". I very much suspect Americans and Canadians must be meaner than the Brits. It is traditional that anyone who gets a whole in one buys everyone a drink in the club house. You can even get insurance to cover you for this. Honestly, it disgusts me that any golfer would choose to do otherwise

It disgusts you, really?

Suppose you're 20. Working part time, in school, work study program. You're invited to play at a club by your girlfriend's dad. You make an ace. You're elated. You're $50k in debt and making $8/hour work study as part of your financial aid, and there are 137 people in the clubhouse or grill room or whatever. You're staring down a bar tab of a thousand bucks, when you get by on $100 in food per month.

It would disgust you if that kid chose not to buy drinks for everyone in the club? That he didn't think to buy "hole in one insurance"?

C'mon man.

And I don't think it's a UK vs. US thing, either, but way to go all nationalistic.

Any idea how many people can be in the club house on a given day?

We had an event Saturday and I'm guessing there was a solid 200 in the joint when we got done. Hold it to just beer and that's a $600 tab.

But, as others have said, the guys in my group would be an automatic.

    • Day 140 - 2025-02-17 Got to GE pretty early. Few lessons and then a GEARS visit with a guy. Pelvis work, go figure. Put down two mats later with a carpet stay thing, and hit some balls before heading home.

    • If you own a Stack radar (for now, it's limited to Stack radar only), and want to work on your wedge game… it turns out that wedge distances are 99% correlated to ball speed. So, with a small radar, you can practice your wedge game easily in a gamified way.
    • Day 11: 2/16/2025 Rince and Repeat: Just like yesterday I spent several 5-10 minute sessions working on what I learned on Friday.
    • Quick update. So, I got the PXG Secret Weapon and I have to say I like it... mostly. (see below) I spent some time with it on the range and I even gathered some data in doors. I'm not going to post data yet, as my swing is still a bit of a work in progress and I'd like to gather some more data after I settle down a little bit more. But here's my review.  First as a driver replacement. ... IMO it is not a replacement, it's clearly more of a supplement... for me anyway. Not long enough to really replace the driver. For me it's about 20 yards short of my driver. It is longer than my 30-wood off the tee. (15 yards-ish) I will say it is easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. I get some of my best shots teeing it low, but I also get some of my worst. If I tee it about a full inch off the ground I get very consistent shots. Super repeatable. Amazingly repeatable even with my messy swing. Off the tee, I find it draw biased just a bit. You can tinker with the set up if that isn't your personal cup of tea.  As a 3-wood replacement. For me it's about perfect. It's longer than my 3-wood off the deck (my data showed 10 yards longer) and it has a gentle fade to it, which I love. You do need a clean lie, but I never hit my 3-wood off anything but a clean lie anyway. I found it interesting that I hit a gentle fade off the deck and a slight draw off a tee. I'm sure that's not uncommon. Again, you can tinker with the set up to optimize that if you wanted to... I don't want to.  It's clearly a lot longer than my 3-wood off the tee. Easier to hit off the tee than my 3 wood, and off the deck it's also longer. So, it's a no-brainer 3-wood replacement for me. I will say that over the years I've learned to use my 3-wood for this low-flying-100-yard-punch-out-from-under-a-tree shot.  I'll have to see if the Secret Weapon can handle that duty. But it's going in the bag to replace the 3-wood.  I also turned my 5-wood down from 19 degrees to 17 degrees. ... Incidentally my 3-wood had been 16 degrees. I used to always hit my 5 wood and my hybrid about the same distance. This adjustment helps my gapping a bit at the top of the bag. I can clearly hit my 5-wood farther than my hybrid now.  Overall on the PXG Secret Weapon. The good: It's clearly longer and easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. It's a bit longer off the deck than my 3-wood.  It's super forgiving... surprisingly so.  It's uber adjustable. ... Although I do suggest getting fit for it. That will save you having to (or wanting to) buy a weight kit just to try out the infinite number of set ups. The headcover is super cool.  The maybe not so good: Shots out of the middle sound great. Shots off the heal sound great. Shots off the toe sound ... what's the work... clangy? It's very forgiving off the toe and the heal. The flight and the distance are incredibly consistent. But the sound off the toe isn't great.  For me I tend to draw it off the tee and fade it off the deck. You can set it up to be biased either way, but in my hands I think if I set up a draw off the deck, that might induce a duck hook off the tee. ... In fairness that could also be where my swing is at right now.  It's pretty spendy. ... If I really stop and think about it, I paid $450 for a new 3-wood. Granted it's a better performing 3-wood. But for me it's really a 3-wood replacement.
