Gamer V2 would be my ball of choice but for some odd reason, they are very hard to find in Canada so I go with my second choice - DT Solo. I dunno if I'll ever be willing to pay Pro-V prices, just insane how much they charge for "premium" balls.

I play the Srixon Zstar XV quite a bit and it's an awesome ball. It's Srixons version of the Prov1x, for about $25 dozen on the Bay it's a good deal for a premium ball!!

I switched from the NXT Tour to the Gamer V2 and for me the V2 was a far superior ball -  Longer and better on the greens.  Switched again to the Gamer Tour when the spin rating for the Gamer came in much lower than the V2 and have been using it since.  However, the V2 was longer than the Tour and held the greens well for a surlyn covered ball.  My comparisons of the 2014 Gamer and older V2 show that the specs are identical, so perhaps the V2 is back.  Meanwhile I have a dozen Maxfli U/3's to try out.

Once upon a time Top-Flite was strictly in the distance ball business, but did sibsequently offer some great balls with their Strata series.  I suspect that Callaway absorbed that technology, but it appears that the Gamer series technology, developed after Strata, was purchased by Dicks.  And sure, you can still by the Top-Flite XL if you so choose.

Top Flite got their bad rap, deservedly so, from their XL series. Those were not good balls. The Gamer is a legit ball. Anyone who says they won't play a Top Flite Gamer based on name only is an asshat.

It all depends on how you strike the ball.  I'm a former 8 handicap who hasn't yet found my game after 10 years off, but I can hit a wedge with spin.  The Gamer V2 is an amazing product for the price.  The last ball test from one of the golf mags showed the Pro V1 at about 12,000 RPM with a wedge and the Gamer V2 at 10,500 RPM.  If you can't make it spin it's likely your swing rather than the ball.

I'm not a great golfer but I can make the ball spin from 150 with crappy balls provided I attack it from the right angle. Divit has to be in front of the ball for sure. Also if your swing speed is under 100 you wont get much spin its physics the ball naturally wants to roll forward so it will start to move forward eventually.

I was spinning them just fine yesterday...sticking everything. A pro-v it is not but it will stop if you hit it correctly.

I agree its all about yhe angle of attack and where you're catching the ball. Handicap has nothing to do with spin like other posts have said . also with full wedge shots if people arent getting spin it could be from a low swing speed. You need to hit that thing with some power to make it spin. Why do you think pros prefer full club shots instead of 3 quarter wedges cause they can't get the same amount of spin. I'm a very good pool player and its a similar concept on getting the ball to draw back. Natural momentum is a ball rolling forward you're going against that so the more force the more spin.

Most pros flight their wedges which is closer to a 3/4 swing. They are still hitting them with plenty of speed though.

Gamers just sound dead to me ... its the sound of the ball I don't like.    Wilson Staff Elite 50 sound about the same - no crack at all, just a thud

The original Gamer V2's were really good but the latest ones are pretty poor.  If you liked the original Gamer V2, give the Snell Golf Get Sum a try.

A friend of the family gave me some of her Dad's golf balls that have been sitting for years.  I think I seen some Stata balls in the mix along with some Arnold Palmer, Hogan, and what I'm guessing is Titleist tour balls back then.   Some of these balls have dimples that are really far apart from one another.

I think the AD333's are discontinued but have seen a few boxes at the big box sporting goods store.

Play the Gamer V2 and it plays like the Callaway HX Bite!

Going to get a Top Flight Sand Wedge and try it out

I have been playing for about 4 years and play the same ball for usually 14-16 holes, yesterday at Quicksand in Wimberly Texas, played the same ball for 17 holes!

I have never had lessons!

    • Day 105: mirror work today. Focused on not looping my hands at the top of the swing. Straight down.
    • Still working on the backswing a bit. Hand still gets away from the body, out towards the ball, and at A2 the club wants to roll over and get flat at A3. It's just very difficult to shallow from that position like I want. Which makes my downswing work impossible.  Backswing I have been playing around with the left leg straightening to start the backswing. It's like, a slight shove of the hips right with the left leg. Then just keep the flex in the right knee as I turn into it. I kind of like it. I never had a good swing trigger. It helps keep my left knee extended.  Yea, definitely feeling the hand path is traveling down the feet line, and straight up. A little bit of wrist rotation, and a lot more hinge sooner in the right wrist and elbow. I am trying to get the feeling that the arm hinging up then is the cause for the right shoulder to retract to finish the backswing. Club feels much more vertical at A3. I am trying to have my wrist fully hinged by then.  Feel the club and arms stop at A3.5 (my A4). If my arm collapses late, then I turn into that and I am pretty much screwed. The club and arms kind of have a floaty feeling, where they are just suspended in air for a bit, then drop.  Downswing I have been trying to think of a good visual for this mentally. I like the idea of my hands taking a wide arc to my right pocket, or I am taking the back of the hosel and trying to hit the ground behind my right foot.    Left knee stuff, just sooner.
    • Day 78 - 2026-03-10 Backswing work at the net with foam balls, a few real ball swings.
    • Day 525 - 2026-03-10 Got some work in before lessons today (was going to play after but it decided to POUR). Then like three minutes in later on.
    • Day 2 (10 Mar 26) - Worked on weight shift feel using slap stick drill (hands about 6” apart - coming back weight on trail foot - down - thru weight on lead foot….moved it to hitting chips w/9i playing what I call “leap frog” - hit 1st about 10yds, the next a couple past the 1st, for about 6 balls total.  Love it as the lies change, the distances vary making each swing slightly different.
