As the title says, please share short games tips you have picked up over the years that have helped you immensely, bunker play, heavy rough....etc

Well I will go first, last week a plus handicapper told me when chipping you should stand only 1 foot away from the ball, I just laughed it off telling him thats abit close......then I tried it = WOW, lol contact and accuracy improved immensely within the second, next time watch the tour pros, they stand very close to the ball when chipping

Example Tiger,

Well please share yours

Practice the length of the swing and focus your eyes during the practice swing on the intended landing area. During the actual swing focus on nothing but making clean contact - say no to bladed chips and chili dips!! Hey that rhymes - just gotta work in "yips"!

PS. Did you notice he flubbed his last chip - can't see the ball land because of where Stevie Wonder is standing.

I tend to stand closer, 1 foot is a bit much for me, maybe its 1 foot i don't measure.

My key is to have at least 75% of my weight on the front foot, most all shots with the ball behind the center of my stance, but never past the tip of my toe on the back foot. I hate chipping it with it that far back. Also, make sure that you have a bit of rotation in the shoulders, almost like putting, just rock the shoulders a bit. This helps me keep my hands from helping the ball up.

on chipping, play the ball behind center of your stance or even your right toe, weight on your left side, hands forward to de-loft the wedge, and use a putting stroke never letting go of that forward angle you created. Just like a real swing, you want to hit down on the back of the ball letting the loft and grooves do the job of getting it in the air and/or creating any spin you need.

don't be afraid of using 8 and 9 irons for off the green chips. I personally use a sandwedge, but I have been known to jump to an 8 iron for a moderately long chip. The goal is to get the ball on teh ground as fast as possible. Also, going with a longer club (8, 9, pw) allows you to use a shorter swing/stroke hence reducing error.

Read Stan Utley's short game book-can't give a better quick tip than that!

Most short shots and chips if you keep your hands forward and underneath the club you will consistently have the downward path critical to partial shots.

Chest turn. Don't under estimate chest turn on the short shots.

Aim as like you are putting, read the green as like you are putting, use the power as like you are putting, use only the 8 iron, vary ballflight by ball position, combine this and you'll be better than Phil plus Tiger.....

Hinge and hold. Not usually a huge Phil fan, but that's one tip from him that's helped me immensely. Haven't bladed or chunked a single ship or pitch since incorporating that advice.

Another vote for Stan Utley's Art of the shortgame. I've used my sw for all pitch and chip shots for the longest time. I'm now using my gw and firing at the pin more aggressively.

I always try to make sure I'm aimed properly and that I hit it crisply. There are days where you don't have the feel or you're having a hard time controlling spin and distance...but if you hit it crisp and on the right line, you will end up okay more often than you will if you're duffing it or missing wildly.

The other thing, and this relates to crisp contact, is thinking of that 1-2 tempo. The trickier your tempo gets on short game shots, the more likely that you'll have weird moving parts in your swing and hit loose/duffed shots.

Very fundamental..but hasn't been mentioned. Keep your head down. Don't be in too big of a hurry to look at your beautiful chip/pitch shot because it won't be. Exaggerate this if necessary.

I like to keep my weight forward and find that it is important to keep your hands moving ahead of the clubhead. This will promote hitting down on the ball and hitting it crisply.

not a big fan of this because when i think of doing that i usually skoop up on the ball and bad things happen. I concentrate on keeping my head look at the spot were the ball was even after i hit it. This keeps me down on the ball and i don't skull it.
