We qualified for match play! Dad was nervous at the start of the round but he ended well, we made a nice birdie on 18. Alternate shot is tough, he thought the greens were faster than they are and left me with a lot of 3-4 footers but he didn't miss a fairway all day.

Hit it my driver and mid irons awesome. From 100-120 yards I was horrible. Hopefully can knock a few close tomorrow.

Awesome...best of luck to you and your Dad..

Unfortunately lost our first match 3&2. We made 3 birdies and were 4 shots lower through 16 holes than we were yesterday. We had to give the other team 2 shots and they only made two bogeys all day.

My dad hit one of the greatest shots I've ever seen. I put him in the trees on #15 and he hit a 5 iron from 111 to 4 feet. Went under one limb and under another and landed the perfect amount short of the green.

Sorry to hear that, Mike. But it must be special to get to compete with dad, let alone just playing with him! Plus, there's always next year.

Thanks, yeah grew up playing a lot of golf with my Dad, very lucky. This tournament kinda got me pumped up to start playing again.

Some practice feeling "wide" at A3. Wide being the angle of the left arm to shaft, not extension of my arms. Would like to see it be close to 90 degrees at A3. This makes the downswing "feel" more automatic. I still have my usual flaws, head goes too far forward, knees sag but I think a better A3 lessens these tendencies.

And some pitch shots with better knees.

Filmed some putts today. Worked with @iacas last summer on my putting and I like the way things are looking. The tournament I played in with my Dad was some of the best putting I've had in a while.

My tendency is to rotate the face too much while having the putter head track too far inside. Then I would basically come OTT and either shove or pull most of my putts. So Erik had me hold my hands higher at address (think Steve Stricker) and feel like the putter head went straight back, almost outside, and then "looped" in and out to the right (think Fred Couples backswing/downswing). He also gave me a drill to work on my start lines. You can see from dtl that feel is not real.

So instead of looping the putter out and across and "hitting" the putts, I'm able to soften things up and just control speed by how far back I take it. I almost feel like the putter is floating for a half second as I transition from the backswing to downswing. Start lines are much better as well.

Backswing and followthrough look pretty even. Head might be too far back at set-up, I'm left eye dominant.

Teaming up with my Dad again in a two man best ball competition. It's against other two man teams from our club and you play one match a month, winner of each match advances to play the next month. First round is this Sunday.

Will be the last day I film this week (except for a vlog). Working on better knee/footwork on the downswing /followthrough. Seeing some regression with A3 caddie view but I like the rates the legs are extending from A7-9 (compared to past swings). No foot crinkle.

Good match today, our opponents were also a father/son team. Between the four of us we had 9 birdies and an eagle. Match was all even on the last hole and we lost to a 4 net 3. My Dad also got a shot but he hit a terrible drive, I had a 20ft putt for birdie and gave it a decent chance. Sucks to lose on Father's Day, at least we didn't "give them" the match.

True, but you did get to spend a day together doing something you both enjoy. Can't get much better than that.

Made some nice improvements with the followthrough thrust/knee piece so I'm focusing more on an old back swing piece that's reared it's head again. Been seeing my left hip, from dtl, move too much towards the ball. Causes the hips to turn a bit shallow and translate back. Results in me hitting big pushes, I rotate the path too far right and then I just match up the face and path.

Quick A4 spectrum

To keep the hips centered and steeper, I'm feeling the left hip go down, like an inch. Holding my left hand in my belt buckle and feeling like I "crush" my hand. For me that feel keeps the hip from popping out towards the ball and helps my right hip turn back, up and around. The right hip should move away from dot that is drawn on it at A1. Three slow paced swing then one full speed swing.

Picture looks better. Would like to see the upper torso be a bit more "flexed over". No push shots, all shots drew and contact was pretty good.

Doing some exaggerated feels on the backswing, feeling the widest angle possible at A3. For me it allows the A5 pic to "happen", I'm not thinking about adding lag. Also keeps the upper center pretty steady.

Compared to this from a few weeks ago. Was working more on the hip stuff then but I get too narrow at A3 and that causes me to "drift" the upper center too much from A3.8-A5. Leads to the arms lagging behind my pivot on the downswing and complicates things with how my wrists unload.

Hips looking good, not something I was thinking about. I like the "softer" look with my upper back compared to the last pics I posted in this thread.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
