Is it rude to play tees further from partners?

I'm playing a new course Friday with 3 friends, 2 of whom are retired and don't hit the ball real far and prefer to play the shorter tees, in this case 6000 yds. I would rather play the next set of tees back, at 6600 yds. I've always played the shorter tees with them in the past, but this time I know I'd enjoy it more on the further tees. Is this rude or offensive? I'm half their age and just want to be able to hit driver more often. Anyone else do this?

It depends on the type of people they are if they would take offense to it. I personally would understand, but they might take it personal or feel pressure to play from the deeper tees along with you. Feel them out, and see how they react, then you can decide.

No, women and seniors do it all the time. I see know reason anyone else can't. In fact, I just did it this weekend for the forward tees challenge.

As few things though: If you decided to wait for your partners to tee off at the back tees you have to really hustle to the forward tees right after they tee off. If you decide to wait at the front tees (provided they are a substantial distance from the back tees) you need to make sure you are as out of view as possible. Pick your club, then get out of view and be ready to hit when it's your turn.

people actually get offended by this...? you're paying for your round, play where you please. if they get upset about something like this then find new playing partners.

I wish I had this problem. My friends who golf in the 100's only play from the tips. They are not long or accurate but won't play any of the shorter tees.

Play whatever tees you want to. Why should you budge for them, but not they for you?

I got paired up with a father and son (son was 18ish) and they were playing the tees in front of me. It wasn't a big deal to play from a different set, except when the son kept walking up to tee off right in front of me. I just don't think he understood the etiquette of letting the further player hit first.

I'm going to disagree with the majority so far. I wouldn't say it was rude , but let's call it anti-social. Do you play with them regularly? If so, how about alternating the tees you play from?

Why should he alternate if they don't? How is it anti-social to play from the proper tees? All of you walk up to blue tees, you hit the ball. All of you walk up to red tees, they hit the ball. I don't see the problem.

hmmm similar to my problem. my friends prefer white tee and I feel that I need to play from further to get enough practice on my longer clubs.
If I play from white tee I only get to use driver from par 5's. I usually end up teeing off with my hybrid or long iron. But I usually play 4some and other 3 all plays from white. I know they won't mind me playing from back tee but like others say it kind of seem anti-social. I don't know but last week I finally stepped up and told them I would play from blue tee by myself and everyone ended up playing from the blue tee and ruined their game. I felt sorry for them and I don't think I will ask them to play from blue tees again. I am now getting used to playing golf by myself lol. It could be one of the solution? o.O? lol

Ask them if they want to play from whites, while you play from blues. It's not your fault if they play from the wrong set of tees.

Another thing that I've noticed is that almost everyone who replied is below 15 handicap and I think more higher handicapped golfers should give us more comments~~~

Ahh yes!! I qualify!

I would agree that it is more social to play from the same tees. If this is a one time golf outing, I would play from the same tees and enjoy the game for that. If this could be, or already is a repeat event, I would ask to play from your normal tees. I have played with a number of people that play from the blues and it doesn't bother me at all. I actually find that our second shot is closer so I enjoy the entire hole more. I also play from the blues when the hole just begs for it. (usually I loose a fair number of balls in that situation)

Just ask them if they mind!! They might or might not have different feelings than those of us on tst. If I was you I would play the 6000 yard tees. It will present you with different challenges than your usual 6500 yard tees.

I play all the time with my father-in-law and I always play back and they play forward. The last time I played at 6700 yards and they played 5200 (they were way up). We find it to be a little more competitive when we hit our tee shots in the same county and they still give me the business and vice versa, so I don't see how it is antisocial at all. I think that most people wouldn't want the seniors playing the pro tees and the seniors really don't want longer players playing their tees necessarily. Now if it is a corporate outing, scramble, or something out of ordinary then join the group, if not play the appropriate tee.

Comment from a higher handicap. I wouldn't object if I was playing with you. You can use any tees you prefer and I'm OK with it. I just try to play my own game and don't find it intimidating to play with better players or ones that are longer (not always the same thing).

If I was paying for my round I'd play from whatever tees I wanted. If they had a problem with it that's their issue not yours. Why should you play from their preferred tees when they won't play from yours?
