It’s all relative. When somebody bought an Acushnet putter 30 years ago it seemed expensive to them at the time.

Hey guys, I’ve been there. You buy a fancy new new putter and it comes with a fancy cover with the logos and graphics embroidered all over it. Some even have magnetic closures and are all fuzzy inside. The cover is so freaking nice it almost seems a shame to toss it. But after pulling the thing off trying set it it on my stand bag so it doesn’t fall off (which it inevitably does on dewy mornings), putting, and putting it back on time after time it seems like more trouble than it’s worth (to me). But, if somehow keeping your putter pristine helps performance, then do what you must.

Not as hassle for me either.  They are a lot easier to put on and take off than most drivers and woods head covers are.

That's for sure.  That's why I bought an after market head cover with magnetic closures for my Diablo.  The one that came with it was a royal pain to get back on.

I did the same thing for my driver after the stock offering for my SuperQuad frayed and eventually fell apart. Best $30 I ever spent. Love my magnetic putter cover too.

Meh... I don't bother with it. I probably should but it's a pain in the ass to take it off and on every hole

I have a pricey Scotty Cameron and I still hate putter covers. I also have an Ogio bag similar to the one pictured above and that slot keeps the putter head away from the other clubs. I love the putter, but just can't get with the covers.

Even worse are the collector covers that people spend wayyyyy too much money on.

I use the one that came with my Rife putter but I don't like it. The velcro is not sticking much so the damn thing falls off a lot. I bought some covers from Stealth awhile back and love the neoprene fit to them so I think I'll get one of those when I lose the original one (which is inevitable). The reason I keep it on my Rife is the face has the RollGrooves on them - I don't want the face to get blemished.

God forbid people spend money on something they like.

I don't see how taking off and putting on a headcover 18 times a round is a hassle.

Not a hassle. I don't want my putter getting dinged up. One of my putters clanked against my wedge once and put a tiny nick in the topline. I would see it every damn time I putted. It'd catch the sun or just be a different shade of silver and stand out like a sore thumb.

Putter headcovers are great. The Edels are magnetic and a cinch to put on. The Scotty Cameron ones used velcro (still do, right?) for way too long. Those were kind of a pain.

I feel they are worth the hassle to protect the investment, I do not replace the cover on my driver though since it does not get hit by any of my other clubs. Some of those collector covers on eBay are ridiculous but I'm mainly ranting bc I'm jealous and too cheap to spend $100 on a cover.

I have one and use it... actually it's the only cover that I really take off and put back on each time during a round... the driver usually remains uncovered as does the hybrid and 3 wood once I use them... the putter I uncover as a walk to the green and cover back up as I walk back to the cart... not really a big deal.

I don't mind having a cover on my putter at all. In fact, I prefer it. I keep my putter in one of the top slots of my bag w/my woods so a cover on the putter helps protect not only the putter but the shafts on my woods and my long/mid irons as well. I don't see it as a hassle either. The cover slips on/off easily and quickly. I do prefer a smaller cover though. I don't like the huge putter covers that take up a ton of room unnecessarily. A perfect example of this are Cameron covers. I have a bunch of them just laying around the house because I don't like having them in my bag. Not only do they take up a lot more room than they need to but the Velcro drives me nuts too. More often than not, I carry one of my Newports under an Odyssey headcover. I know, blasphemy!

No, it's not the same thing, There were no extreme high-end boutique putters back then. This is quite a new phenomena that's cropped up in the last 10 years.

High-end or not, I would put a cover on a $30 putter too.
