This from the 11th hole par 3 tee box at Crystal Springs in NJ, the green is about 100 ft below, the view from down there is just as nice, you can barely see people in the tee box. Parred it!

Now that is a cool par 3 :-)

Nice! Here's ours along the same lines (just pop some nice music on in the background!) - there is a Peter Aliss version as well, but slightly lower quality:

I didn't play real well last week in Pinehurst, but I took a few photos at MidPines, one of my favorite courses in the area.  First, the view down the first fairway:

565e27e881b1c_hole1.thumb.jpg.dcd08122d0

An inviting drive down the hill, but then uphill to a deep contoured green.

Next, the green at the par-5 10th hole.  A small green, very well protected.565e27e4307c4_No10.thumb.jpg.384181df3b3

That little gap into the green is a steep false front, pretty common at this course.

Third, the 15th, another par-5.565e27e5bcbce_No15.thumb.jpg.387a0a0ec64

Seemingly easy, after a good drive you'll be hitting this shot from a downhill, right-to-left slope..  If you hit the draw that seems natural off that lie, the ball is ending up left of the green, unless you've aimed into the trees on the right and carried the bunker on that side.  Notice the severe false front, and the long roll-off to the left of the green.  Last, the 18th:

One of my favorite finishes in golf.  This terrace has the best 19th hole view in the Pinehurst area.

#17 at Green Hills in Ravenswood West Virginia.  It looks much prettier in the summer, but its still decent looking in February.  The back nine of the course is shorter than the front and requires more precision off the tee to compensate.  This hole is the shortest of the short par 4s and the only one feasibly reachable by the common man (276 yards from whites) as you hit it off a mountain.  The bunker on the right comes into play for those going for the green while the one on the left can cause problems for lesser hitters off the tee or those who want to take a iron/wood off the tee depending on how far you hit it.  The hole is short enough that one can get away with a short iron/wedge on both the tee and the approach if they so desire.  I'd say its is the course's signature hole, due to the view you get in the middle of summer.

    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
