I will admit though, Bubba's short game was exceptional this weekend.  He's really smooth with his wedges.

Even Phil laid up on 18 to win at Pebble. Not exactly the same scenario as Bubba, but what this tells me is that Bubba has some growing up to do when it comes to course management.  I doubt that he really thinks about his shot percentages at all. He has the game, but it's just a matter of putting the reigns on it....at least occasionally.

Exactly. If it was Augusta, he would have pushed it out...his toughness has never been in question. So he didn't quit because he wasn't going to win...that is ridiculous. If he was gonna quit because of wasn't playing well, he would have quit and went home at the match play. Because up until today he was actually playing pretty well...he was obviously hurt. I noticed he was limping early in the round way before he changed shoes or any of the announcers said anything...if you don't believe me go back in the thread. I was also watching it on a 45 minute delay on DVR...which I think I also said. It doesn't matter...not looking for a cookie. his stride just looked a little different and kept getting worse. To say a guy that played a US OPEN on a bum knee with a fracture in his leg is a quitter is asinine! period. Go Hoosiers! #4 seed!

Yup, it is a real shame that the haters who always complain about how Tiger draws all the attention from the other players couldn't just sit back and enjoy the spectacular finish.  No one seemed to get all that upset when David Toms withdrew Saturday.  Anyone know why he withdrew?

Other than Phil and Tiger I don't know who else could have made that shot Bubba hit on 18 out of the rough.  It's a shame he missed that putt.  Somehow you have to make the putt to keep the shot truly memorable.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

to add insult to injury he watched bradley miss almost the same put low, so he should have known to hit the thing, he really didn't give it a chance....

finishes don't get any more spectacular than that unless you take the same scenario to a major.

Uh, Tigerjack? IIRC he was playing in the tournament, the tournament that was the subject of the this thread. He WD'd in the middle of the 4th round. I don't see how discussing that as it unfolded constituted 'Tigerjacking' the thread. He was part of the story being discussed.

Now, where it got a bit off-topic was the personal opinions of his toughness, motives, whatever. My comments were, he got hurt & WD'd. Others can't seem to bite their tongue on what that means of him as a man. That's a shame, but not surprising.

Wow, I just finished watching via DVR and it came down to 18 once again. Great tournament and the one thing they really underplayed was how windy it was today. Congratulations Justin, with only 7 bogies for the week, that was some solid play. It looks like the Masters is going to be anyone's tournament with so many great performances so far this year.

Over/Under on how many F-Bombs were dropped by Tiger between the time sat down in his Mercedes, shut the door and pulled into his garage? I'm saying 50 before he even started backing out of his parking space. There were definitely more dropped than yards gained from using a Rocketballz 3 wood!

Don't try to play the victim card when you say something ignorant and stupid.  You should get called on it.  You (and others) can spend time trying to rationalize and justify it, but perceptive posters see right through it.

Congrats to Rose, he was the golfer I was rooting for on this day, and I'm glad he pulled it out.  He seemed to be the only one to keep his poise and wits about him throughout the round.  Bubba should have won if he would have only had a game plan and stuck to it (remember he mentioned his game plan before the round would have been to "think more and hit less driver" but he didn't do either of those things).

With Rose winning this does this make Foley the best coach in the game?   Wouldn't be a stretch as his players just seem to keep on winning...... And this isn't to bash P&B; but maybe they might want to take a walk down the range and spend some time with Foley and see why his players continue to win.

He's good, for sure.  He's coaching Mahan, Rose, and Woods--who are all winning or playing well.  But Stephen Ames and Sean O'Hair aren't exactly lighting up leaderboards every week.

Is he coaching anyone else?  His website only lists O'Hair and Mahan far as I can tell.

If anything his guys are off to a great 2012. Rose's finish was all about maintaining consistency under tough conditions as others crumbled around him. It certainly gives Foley some more credibility that is Pre-Tiger (not that I had ever questioned his teaching as good, bad, or indifferent).

Explain what I said that was ignorant and stupid?

I said Tiger is Out...... Bye.  And then after I was attacked, I said that I didn't like Tiger because of his antics on the course, and that I wouldn't want my children to see him as a role model because of his behavior on the course.

If you think it's perfectly acceptable to teach people that dropping F-Bombs and throwing clubs is the way people should behave on the course, then it is not me who is ignorant and stupid.  I used to root for Tiger until I had the chance to see him play in person and witness his tantrums on the course.

Somebody should rinse that guy who just yelled "Mashpotatoe" in 18 lake. And the guy who just yelled at Rose "Bubba's in the lake, Don't worry" Couple of jagoffs!

Did anyone see Rose's post tournament interview on "down the stretch" tonight" He said the reason he celebrated as if he won after he putted out on 18 is because of the ******* that I heard yell " Bubba's in the lake, don't worry". He yelled it from the crowd right before Justin putted. What a dick.

And (if I remember correctly the incident you are referencing), he did that all while trying to impress a certain family of Alaskans with good New York pizza!

    • Just critiquing the article.  He is misquoting energy being created or destroyed. The energy conservation is more around systems, and accounting for energy in the system. This is why thermodynamic equations end with some sort of variable, usually entropy. Heat loss is a common energy loss that must be accounted for to balance the thermodynamic equation. Let's say you have a car engine, if you write out the thermodynamic equation, at the end you need to account for the heat generated as a loss. We haven't found a way to redirect heat effectively as energy into a mechanical system for use.  I would say certain movements in the golf swing do either promote more power or less power. Power being swing speed. All that energy is known, it isn't like any system is claiming they are breaking the laws of thermodynamics.  I get the guy wants to sound professional here, I get his gripe, but don't misuse physics please. 😛 Not sure I believe that. If you practice the movements, specifically enough, you will make a swing change. If it is good or not depends. I do not think a golfer can become so ascribed to a system, and believe it makes them better, then it does make them better. There might be some confidence level here, so maybe some measurable result could be found. It could be gaslighting as well. Unless you track the scores out, a person might believe they are better when they are not.  Maybe for some, but I do not believe all of these instructors are after this. I think the golf instructor might just be bad at realizing how long it takes to make a swing change, and a good result might not actually be due to their instruction, but just variance. So, it might just be a bad assumption on the instructor's part. I do not think it is all, "Oh, if I can just make every good shot sound like it is me improving them, I got them roped in for x amount more lessons." There could be more "snake oil" salesman out there than I think. I think a lot of special programs are designed as to get to know the instructor. An instructor's business is to get clients. I do not see these sorts of promotions, camps, or what not as a scam. What if an instructor is like, buy one get one free lesson. Or, buy one adult lesson and a kid gets a free lesson. It could be a way to get a kid into the game if they are interested. This could be done by any type of instructor; method, system, or whatever.  From my experience, at least at the places I have been to or instructors I have happen to oversee teach. Most of them do use cliche's, or drills to fix a common problem. They may not be hitting on the exact issue, but it is what they know. I wouldn't categorize it as a method, or as the writer gave an example, Stack and Tilt.
    • If your baby is crying why would you continue to play golf? Take the kid out and get them some play like a reasonable adult. If you don't like kids go to an adult only course. I bought a kid Caddie and it works awesome. The kids had a great time and the cup holders worked great for drinks. I even used the phone holder to record videos of me showing my little guy how to swing. Until you have kids you wouldn't understand.

    • Not exactly what I thought the article would be about but a little interesting. I immediately thought of @collegefbfan post.  I would like to believe that most instructors have a genuine passion to help their students get better, but I'm sure somewhere there's a guy that gives you just enough to make you have to come back. @iacas can answer this.  Other than being a PGA professional, is any governing body on certifications for an instructor?  I know of the USGTF but is that 100% legitimate?  Ryan: Lessons from the worst golf instructor in America In Tampa, there is a golf course that boasts carts that do not work, a water range, and a group of players none of which have any chance to break 80...
    • Is the guy a PGA professional or a USGTF professional, or just a guy that tinkers in a shop and has a pretty good golf game? Not knocking you in any way, just curios. Did he take a look at your clubs and take any measurements to see if your clubs length/ lie were OK for you? If you are hitting on a full size range then the launch monitor isn't 100% necessary, ball flight will tell you a lot along with some foot powder on the club face. If all he has is a net then yes a launch monitor is needed.  50 bucks an hour seems like a good deal. I pay 50 for a 1/2 hour. 30 mins is about all my mind will absorb and I leave with one solid thing to practice and a few drills to last to next time. Keep us posted on your journey.
