Furyk switched drivers and is now playing better.  Went to the RAZR Fit

Quote:

“It was a product of maybe trying to get a little bit longer, maybe trying to find new ways to improve and maybe then hurting my strengths,” said Furyk who at the time played a TaylorMade driver and golf ball. “Trying to make my weaknesses better but in doing so, hurting your strengths, which is rule No. 1. You don’t do that.”

So the week before the Presidents Cup, Furyk switched to a Callaway driver and golf ball (the same one Phil Mickelson uses) after amicably parting ways with TaylorMade.

The results haven’t necessarily shown it, but Furyk is playing better. He tied for 11th at Riviera last month and enters the final round here at the Transitions Championship tied for the lead with Retief Goosen at 11 under after a 66 on Saturday.

He'll shoot 63 today, drink 40 pints of Guinness tonight, and close with a 91.  (Kidding)

When Paddy won his third major, do you think he was satisfied with his golf career and just stopped working?  I love Paddy, and he saved the 2nd half of the 2008 season (gave us something to talk about when we were tired of speculating about Tiger), but he completely fell off the map after 2008.

Of all the guys on Tour, I think he'd be the most fun to spend the day with.  (Well, maybe Jiminez.)

The one thing about Harrington is that effort to improve will not be doubted. At the PGA last year he missed the cut but he was still on the range on Sunday working on his game....granted he had more contraptions hooked to his body than robocop, but on Sunday at Atlanta athletic club he was THE ONLY player on the range,,,let alone a player that missed the cut

That's interesting, and I certainly wasn't accusing Paddy of anything, just wondering.  His 3/6 majors streak from 2008-2009 was a streak of majors play that's only been accomplished by a few golfers in history.  Then he just disappeared from relevance (he's had a handful of top-10s  since the 2009 playoffs?).

Charlie Wi with a 13 on the 5th today. Anyone know how that happened? No water on the hole.

Looking at the shot tracker, it looks like he repeatedly hit a tree or something and kept going out of bounds, finally he hit it 1 hard to where he could hit a clear shot. Looks bizarre on shot tracker, would like to see video.

It's too bad about Paddy, he was great fun to watch.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that Harrington hasn't reproduced his major winning seasons, the past is littered with such players. Sustaining such a high level of play seems to be limited to a select group. I would like to see him play well again. Also David Duval, who has been missing cuts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's got to be the first time in a long time that Ernie's been at the top of the leader board on a Sunday.

He won twice two years ago, no? Is that a "long time"?

    • Day 126: 5/1/24 Putting and chipping practice. Slow motion swings with 8-iron.
    • #4 - 1st hole at Kingsbarns I rolled in a 15 footer for birdie. Showed my caddie an old guy could still play a bit. #3 - 18th hole at Basin Harbor Club, Vergennes, VT. I had played matches against my nephew over the years. He had never beaten me although through the years he had become a long hitting teenage golfer. I was 1 up but bunkered near the 18th green. My nephew had a long putt for birdie. I splashed out of the bunker to 4 feet. He rolled his first putt close and I gave him the par. Sadly for him, I rolled mine in and won our last match. He went off to college and then Europe for a Ph. D. It was our last match. Family champion forever. #2 - First playoff hole in the City of Livonia, MI “65 & Over” division. I rolled in an 8 footer that broke about 4-5 inches. #10 Whispering Willows GC. #1  18th hole at TPC Prestancia, Sarasota, FL. A 4 foot slicing putt for par to beat the prior year’s Member/Guest winners and win the Member/Guest with my father at his club. I was having heart palpitations as I played the final hole solo when my father put two in the water. There was never a better golf sight for me when that ball dove into the hole.
    • Finally, wedges getting somewhere. This one a punch gap from 87 yards to about 12 feet. Contact and ball flight absolute restaurant quality. It's nice when grass comes back.
    • Tiger on the Today show today. At 3:25 he says he's working on keeping his arms in more and rotating his hips better. Nice.
    • Day 11- Slow,  short swings with short practice club.
