As mentioned, Tiger's better than everyone else out there. He can win without playing his best. Of course, everyone struggles in the wind. Tiger's talent made sure he won events in windy conditions too, but he's never been a good player in the wind, no. Compared to others, his game is good in any conditions, but by his standards, it's not been very good.
Tiger's wind play is discussed in depth in another thread. It was proven pretty conclusively that he is a very good wind player.
Got a link?

FWIW, Johnny Miller just said "Tiger's always been a little wind-worried." Then again, I don't think there's anyone out there that loves the wind.

Okay now I'm curious. Who would be a great wind player besides a guy that won in the wind? Are you saying there's a player out there that wouldn't contend until it started blowing then would rocket into contention?

What you're saying is illogical. If it was his talent that allowed him to win in the wind then he was a good enough to win in the wind. Ergo, a good wind player. If his talent was so far ahead of everyone else's that his game would degrade in the wind but still be ahead of the field's ability, then he was a good wind player - he was still better than everyone else. What more is needed?

So excited to see what's shaping up to be vintage Tiger.
Wow Graeme is putting up a fight! Good show with a 50+ foot eagle!
Yep. He's one step closer to Gold Mastery on this course.

No it wasn't.

If this is your definition of "windy" then we have very different definitions. It's a breeze. This isn't "windy." It's not even a full club straight in.

And Tiger right now is not the same Tiger of years ago.

Look it up. Tiger was not known as a great player in the winds. Very commonly held opinion.
Q. Would you consider yourself a better wind player now since the swing change given the last couple times -- TIGER WOODS: Absolutely. Absolutely, yeah.
If you want to discuss this further, can't we take it in some other thread? This is the same discussion we had last week.

No, it's okay. I got it. He's not a good wind player. Just good enough to win PGA Tour events in the wind. Got it.

Lol, I guess I would take it if somebody said I wasn't a very successful businessman in the late oughts,...just more successful than everybody else :-)

Anyway, if my lip-reading skills are any good (which I don't think they are), during/after Tiger's approach shot at the par 5 sixth hole, Graeme said "he's a beast."

Of course Graeme then out-beasted him by draining a 50 foot eagle putt.  I really like the guy, and so do a lot of Americans I think.  I honestly think he may be more popular than Rory among Americans currently.

He's a little more "everyman" than Rory.

Like Erik said, he's more of an everyman, got his own style, quirks and doesn't have a perfect swing (perception wise).  Rory is a phenom and not as relatable.

Did Tiger lay up on 15 out of the bunker, or did he catch it fat trying to play a cut shot?

I haven't seen Graeme make a putt that he should make within 12 feet or so over the last two days, but yet he drains those two bombs from 40+ feet?  He could easily be within 1 stroke if he makes a couple of 6-8 footers for birdie yesterday and today.

Although he could easily be 3 strokes worse if he didn't barely carry the water on the par 5 sixth hole with his driver.

I think he only half-heartedly went for the green. By that I mean he would have been okay with making the green, but he wasn't going to do something stupid and swing out of his shoes just to get there. Plus it was a long shot from a fairway bunker with a decently high lip and a tree in front of him.

It was a shot he could afford to play given a 4-shot lead at the time. There was no need for heroics.

Well, I'll admit -- after the 2009 Thanksgiving thing, I thought Tiger's next win would be the 2010 Torrey Pines event and I was wrong. But it's so good to see Tiger win an official event again.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
