  1. 1. Which M.C. Surprised You Most?

    • Luke Donald

    • Rory McIlroy
      16
    • Bubba Watson

I think I heard that Luke Donald has played in 35 majors now, but finished inside the top 30 only something like 11 times. That's really bad.

Yep. Hasn't gone an entire year without missing the cut in a major since 2006 also.

In my bag:

Driver: Titleist TSi3 | 15º 3-Wood: Ping G410 | 17º 2-Hybrid: Ping G410 | 19º 3-Iron: TaylorMade GAPR Lo |4-PW Irons: Nike VR Pro Combo | 54º SW, 60º LW: Titleist Vokey SM8 | Putter: Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas H7

I was not shocked that Bubba missed the cut. Read his tweets, facebook posts, etc. He's not confident with his game, and his family life is more important to him at the moment.

I voted for Rory, and not just because he was my pick to win on the  prediction thread. He should be a factor in this tournament right now.

And Luke, as steady as he is, and #1 and all, is just crap in majors, no real shock there.

Rory does well at St. Andrews and that is "tough" weather course. I don't thinks Rory has his game sorted out just yet. Donald being as accurate as he is should have been able to make the cut. Bubba needs to play bubba golf with out his driver.

Rory.  As the so-called best golfer in the world by some, he has no excuse to miss the cut at a major.  Donald has never done all that well at majors and Bubba had a poor attitude right from the start and IMO he hasnt had his head in the game since he won The Masters, so no surprise there.

This is a man-sized course. That lets out Donald.

Rory doesn't have a game, and you don't find it again at the U.S. Open.

Bubba's priority right now isn't golf.

I would have bet good money on all three missing the cut.

I dont even know why Bubba bothers to show up at the course anymore.  Now that his career is, as he said, "complete" why even bother?  Stay home, play Mr. Mom and save your spot for someone who actually still cares about winning golf tournaments.

He really went through the motions this week.  He really seems like golf is a job for him.

Well as a dad I will say this. He has a new baby at home and probably wants to spend time with it and often it is real hard to leave something you love so much. That being said, the stress of being away is probably what you see on bubba. He knows he has obligations to sponsors but he probably just wants to spend every minute with his son. It will wear off as time goes on. It is the newness of fatherhood.

Honestly, none of them surprised me.  Bubba golf just won't work at a US Open, no surprise.  Rory has been playing lousy as of late, missed 3 of 4 cuts going in, his game is off.  Luke seems to get credit for being an short but accurate hitter, I would disagree.  When ever I watch him on TV he is always hitting from the rough, chipping onto greens, seems to me he is short and crooked with a great short game, and that doesn't translate into a major winner.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

I totally agree. I kinda mad at Bubba for his bad attitude this week. He did nothing but complain about the course, he played bad, he didn't even smile, he "tweeted" some distastful stuff about missing a putt for a 79.

He is quickly becoming a "one and done". He won the Masters? I can't tell right now, but he's not worthy of it now. Grow up Bubba, or retire. We don't need any more Tiger attitude at tournaments.

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha 10.5*

3WD:  Callaway Big Bertha 15* / X2 Hot H4 Hybrid
Irons:  Callaway Apex 4-PW Project X 5.5 shafts

Wedges: Callaway MackDaddy 2  52/58
Putter: Odyessey Metal X Milled 1

Definitely Donald as he is the most consistent of the 3 and the way he puts I thought he had a chance to win. Not surprised at all about anything regarding Bubba. Rory has had a pretty inconsistent couple of months beginning with his final 36 holes at the Masters, so I wasn't shocked he missed the cut.

My Tools of Ignorance:

Driver: Ping I20 9.5*
Woods/Hybrids: Cobra AMP 3W and 3 HY

Irons: Cobra AMP 4-GW

Wedges: Callaway Forged Copper 56* and 60*

Putters: Scotty Cameron  35" (Several of the flow neck blade variety)

Ball: Bridgestone B330-RX and Srixon Z-Star

Bag: Nike Performance Carry

I agree with what you're saying, but as a dad Bubba also needs to provide for his family.  Winning the Masters bought him some time off, but he can't expect the sponsors to keep sending checks while he's home playing daddy.

We know that too, but bubba is not known for his intelligence. Just recently he was "followed home by a strange car". Did he call the cops, no. He called his caddie. It was later found out that the strange car was actually his boat he was towing....

1) Great avatar.

2) You are not allowed to question Bubba's intelligence on this forum!

I picked Luke to win it all. Figured his consistency would pay huge on such a punishing course. Rory was surprising too, though. Not that he's played great lately, but we all know he's such a talented player, and seems to play well in big tournaments. Bubba - I like the guy a lot, but he will never win a U.S. Open, unless it's somewhere like last year, as was already stated.
