Yes, breast 2x and skin cancer for this person. After a scare like that you do what the oncologist advises, which in this case is avoid things that could lead to a recurrence. The skin cancer risk in CO is high.

I wear short down to about 60 F and can handle 55 F if it is sunny out.  But I use sun block every time I play on all exposed skin.

Shorts most of the time but I live in New York so early spring, late fall, and winter, when it is cold, it is pants, never jeans (got to have some respect for the game).

I'm guilty of wearing shorts during the warm months, but I have this weird idea that men should NEVER wear shorts (unless you're under 12 years old) except while cycling, playing tennis, running, or working out at the gym.

That is weird. I wear shorts as much as possible. I also rarely use sunscreen. I find sunscreen is just as unhealthy for some people as it is helpful for fair skinned people. Many pros will wear shorts on practice rounds. I

I wear shorts year round if I can help it. I own nice pants and wear them when appropriate but I much prefer shorts as long as it's over 45 degrees. I work outdoors in all the elements so weather doesn't really bother me, I've grown completely accustomed to it. The only thing that really makes me stay in the house is 20 or below with some serious wind, I can't take the wind since a lot of my job is performed on a platform 140 feet above the ground where I have no wind block. I refuse to subject myself to that punishment unless I'm being pair for it.

I had a friend in college who wore shorts the whole first semester but finally gave up when wearing shorts into sub-20*F weather in January would have made him look (and feel) too ridiculous.

I think guys, other than golf pros, who wear pants in 80+ degree weather, who aren't doing so for a medical reason (particular sensitivity to temperature or sun or are covering up a hideously scarred leg, etc...) but are doing so for the sake of "decorum," "tradition" or "respect for the game" are simply pompous and full of themselves, trying to emulate a PGA Tour pro like an 11 year-old girl tries to emulate her favorite pop star.  Even for golf pros, if it's in the 90's, wear some damn shorts, for cripe sakes - no one wants to see a grown man sweat through his pants.  While I find the "I'm a dapper gent!" types to be pretentious and annoying, I do get satisfaction from the fact that keeping up their hoighty-toighty airs can't be all that physically comfortable for them (although they will all make the less-than-credible claim that they are just as fine in pants as they would be in shorts).  I think the reason that "always golf in pants" guy annoys me is that several such people were condescending to me the first year or two I started playing (about my playing, not about clothes though - I've pretty much always worn a collared shirt and non-denim shorts or pants).  Probably I shouldn't let what others wear bother me, but I guess I'm not a fan of snobs and posers in golf or elsewhere in life.

Having said that, I suppose I am a bit of a hypocrit, since I do keep up with the basic golf dress code even on courses that don't have a dress code unless I decide to play a spontaneous late-season 9-holes at a muni course and happen to be wearing jeans that day. If a golfer is polite and courteous to others, keeps up a decent rate of play, and maybe even is a pleasant conversationalist (optional), why should it matter if he's wearing cutoffs and a black sleeveless NASCAR shirt?  Probably no one here would have a serious problem with a cute female playing golf in short shorts and a tanktop, would they?

Why? Because you don't. There's a dress code in golf, just like there's a dress code when you go to a restaurant to use an analogy. Would you walk into a restaurant with your wife in ripped jean shorts and a tank top? No, theres a dress code. Same as golf.

And but the way, maybe the guy wearing pants has fair skin, and doesn't want sunburn. And trust me, wearing light pants is more comfortable then pouring sunblock on your body.

Depends upon the weather.  Shorts in the heat of summer, pants in the early spring and fall when its a bit chilly.

How does wearing jeans "disrespect the game"?  There is nothing about the game which specifies proper attire.  It's never mentioned in the Rules of Golf.  Play by the rules, show respect for the course and your fellow players, and you have done what is required for honoring the game .  I am probably more consistent than most players about honoring the game in all of those aspects which count for anything, but in the winter I have often shown my respect while wearing denim at many courses where that is perfectly acceptable.  I don't get why so many people are eagerly willing to leave divots and pitch marks unrepaired, fudge lies, hit mulligans, and ignore penalties, but then they get holier than thou about denim.  Too much ado about nothing, in my opinion.

Dress codes are controlled by club or course policy and have little or nothing to do with the actual game of golf.  As long as you follow those posted policies, you have done all that is required as far as attire is concerned.  Just wear whatever you feel comfortable with in keeping with their policies - it isn't necessary to preach about it.

No, there isn't a dress code in golf.  Attire for the game has evolved as fashions changed throughout the years.  The only dress code is set by course policy, not by the game.

That's a very archaic belief.  I live in shorts.  I haven't even taken a pair of slacks out of the closet since we moved down here, and unless we go back to the States during winter sometime, I likely never will.

My whole life I've worn shorts as soon as the weather allowed, and I lived a third of my life in Minnesota and Montana, two thirds in Colorado.  I'm looking forward to my first winter without cold.

From what i saw at East Lake yesterday, and i did see perhaps 12 players, nearly half the field, none was in short pants. That was the easiest way to distinguish the players from the caddies. It's my belief that the PGA tour laws dictate that male pros must not appear on any tourney course, even for practice or pro-am, except in long pants. Female pros operate under the opposite law: American players wear as little as possible on the legs.

While I don't dictate what others should/shouldn't do,  I wear pants all the time too....    I put on my shorts and go for a run,  but during my daily activities, grocery shopping, golfing, going to a store, doing some yardwork, etc...  I wear pants.

My reasons are mostly due to skinny little chicken legs though,  and for golf,  I have shoes that pretty much can't be worn with shorts.

Also,  with the tech-pants that are out now,  I would venture to say it's cooler  (if you keep the sun off of your legs)  than wearing shorts.

Um... I'm not sure I would enjoy a round of golf at a course where pants are optional, unless there were a 99.9%-0.1% Female to Male ratio! (me being the 0.1%) Haha Just kidding!

Honestly, I'm not aware of any public courses that require pants. Many public courses in my area require a collared shirt and golf pants/shorts (khakis, no cargo/denim), but they don't require you to wear long pants. I know there are many, many , private country clubs around here that require golf pants and will not even consider letting you step foot on the course in pants. As a matter of fact, I think it's a requirement to even step foot in the club house.
