Where's Anthony Kim? What ever happened to Anthony Kim?

I just think it shows some immaturity or lack of personal development to have that be such a central part of your identity by the time you're pushing 30 that it gets in the way of the rest of your life (assuming that the reporting that implies that is correct, more or less). From the reporting it just seems that's not the case, like he would like to come back and be successful but can't get it together to make it happen, which I think is sad.

I haven't been following him closely because I wasn't into golf when he was playing and I've only really thought about him when reading this thread but I'm under the impression that it's an injury and the possible $10M insurance money that is preventing him from possibly getting it together to make a comeback and be successful and not because he's going out and partying. My point is that I don't think being 29 years of age or older and having nightlife activities be a central part of your life should be categorized as something that one is still being sucked in by. Not do I believe that it is somehow immature for someone of that age or older to regular enjoy nightlife activities.

I think all he's saying is that it's a waste. It's understandable that a 22-yo would party at the expense of applying his talent (see Johnny Football). 22 year olds are young and immature. If you're still doing it at 29, when you have the ability to be a consistent Ryder Cup player, it's sad.

who knows if he can even be the same golfer after his injury, I mean he missed 8 out of 10 cuts his last year. Lets just say if there's lingering pain, he could legitimately be done...and thank goodness he was able to make that ridiculous 8 figure deal

My favorite Anthony Kim (Golf Related) Partying story Kim, a very talented and personable young fellow, has admitted to errant behaviour in the past but he is supposed to have cleaned up his act over the last year. Not so, according to Golfweek (and Robert Allenby). Allenby said friends here witnessed Kim getting back to the team hotel, in Allenby's words, "sideways" at 4 in the morning, less than five hours before his scheduled tee time against Allenby at Harding Park. "Some guys (from the U.S.) who didn't play well played very well today," Allenby said after the U.S. downed the International team, 19 1/2 - 14 1/2, to win its third consecutive Presidents Cup. Kim, going out in the fourth match of the day, drummed Allenby, 5 and 3, running his record in the matches to 3-1. "Maybe we should all take the theory of Anthony Kim," Allenby said. "Get home at 4 o'clock (in the morning) and then go shoot 6 under." Asked if his comments were on the record, Allenby said, "I don't care. Ask his playing partners. Ask his team. He is the loosest cannon in that team." For his part, Kim denied he didn't get back to his team hotel until 4am, according to Golfweek. Said Kim, "He said that today? Wow. That's pretty surprising ... I hope that was a joke." Told it was not, Kim added, "I'm actually pretty surprised that he said that. I was in tip-top shape coming into today. When you get sat out in a match (as Kim did Saturday morning in foursomes), you're out there to prove a point." Again Kim denied misbehaving and had this to say about Allenby, whom he beat 5&3 on Sunday. "He may need to go practise a little bit more." Ouch. The PGA Tour just loves this kind of public slanging match. As for the rest of us, we can just be happy the Presidents Cup suddenly seemed interesting for once.

Oh the irony!!

It appears that he is playing at a US Open Local Qualifying tournament today in Palm Desert.

Darn! If only I didn't have work today, and also was in Palm Springs, that'd probably be my best chance to watch him play some good golf.

No, but circumstantially, it's as good a guess as any, assuming he wants to return to the tour but doesn't want to use up his medical exemptions just yet, a non-PGA Tour event would be a great way to do so, and two big events coming up have open qualifying. Plus, he went to high school in the general area.

Upon further research it appears that it is not the Anthony Kim, as this one also played in a US Am. Pub Links qualifier last year.

Not sure if it is the same one or not, however, as @Shindig mentioned, he did go to high school out here so it would make sense. @RJH999 how do you know it's a different one?

I think we've been over this before. I think it was last year, some random scrub named "Anthony Kim" signed up for a monday qualifier.

Technically, AK still has his PGA Tour card until he uses up his medical extensions, so he would have been exempt from local qualifying anyway.

Yeah , but remember the article about the $10 million insurance clause? If Kim never plays golf again he will get $10 million from insurance. So the question for him is could be make more than that playing or should be take the money and run?

He's not too injured to play golf, apparently. Just PGA Tour level golf.

Rare interview with Anthony Kim from USA Today

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/golf/2015/09/30/anthony-kim-says-golf-only-a-fond-memory-of-mine/73072460/

It seems AK is still not healthy enough to compete. That's a shame because he was fun to watch.

Quote:
AP

Anthony Kim was tired of whispers on the PGA Tourabout what was wrong with him and his game, so he found a patch of grass behind a row of trees down from the practice range at Quail Hollow and hit balls for two hours.

This was where he won his first PGA Tour event in 2008, when he was fearless, brash and backed it all up with an exciting brand of golf. He ended that year by demolishing Sergio Garcia in the leadoff singles match at theRyder Cup, the last time the Americans won.

Kim referred to Quail Hollow as the start of his career. "Hopefully, I can start a new one here," he said. Two days later, he shot 74 and walked straight to his car, dumped his clubs in the trunk and drove away.

That was 2012, and he hasn't been back.

"Golf is a fond memory of mine," Kim said Tuesday, his first interview in three years. "I've been watching more and more. I miss the competition a little bit. Watching these young guys like Jordan Spieth is bringing me back to watch."

Is it enough to bring him back to play?

Not yet. Maybe not ever.

Well I guess that $10milllion insurance clause was too much to pass up.

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
