I wonder what guys think of Bob Knight, given many consider him a coaching idol in spite of the language and tactics he used.

I cuss like a sailor, but a good buddy and my most reliable golf buddy can be embarrassing at times. He will often dip and duff an iron up the fairway and overhand-axe-throw his iron up the fairway while cussing himself out. It often draws stares from people on adjacent and parallel fairways as well.

Then again, maybe I'm the crazy one as most of my cussing on the course is mental and not audible? lol

I have a frequent playing partner who is a deacon at his church, and you will never hear a swear from his lips anywhere but on a golf course. And he is the absolute worst that I know on a golf course.

Shared a cart w/ a really bad golfer yesterday. He was really distracting all of us in our foursome w/ his language and outbursts.

You folks that condone the language, don't you feel you owe it to others in your groups not to have one of your $#@#$#!!!! outburst meltdowns and show that you can keep your cool when things don't go well?

Please point us to a post here where someone has condoned "$#@#$#!!!! outburst meltdowns"? Bonus points if you can find a post condoning it when playing outside of a group of friends.

I don't think anyone condones it, I myself had to be embarrassed by my actions before I finally settled down. Maturity also had something to do with it.

i think it totally depends on the context.  i say GD or MF all the time with quite a bit of sarcasm in my voice and i chuckle when others around me or on TV do the same.  to me it's no different if you were to say "furry kittens" sarcastically instead of "mf" in that context.

it's when you say it with that kind of anger that implies you would punch someone in the face if they came near you that is uncalled for (and uncomfortable for others).  though admittedly i do that from time to time too.

Exactly. It's all fine until starts to negatively impact other people's round at which point it becomes very much NOT ok.

Yeah, the most uncomfortable I've been on a golf course (other than when my partners are playing slowly and holding up pace of play), is when a guy I got paired with in a scramble started throwing stuff.  He played like a 15 handicap, but acted as though he was a 5.  He duffed and topped about 3 straight tee shots and was cursing.  At that point I was okay.  But then he started dropping clubs and eventually threw an iron (and his hat) about 15 yards backwards.  At that point I wanted nothing to do with him and would have preferred quitting the round rather than finishing with him.

His belt buckle matched his shoes which matched his hat.  He also took good looking practice swings.  I thought the guy was gonna be good.

Yeah, throwing stuff != swearing, and they should be treated differently. No one's ever gotten a concussion from an expletive barrage.

How about until it negatively impacts other peoples enjoyment of watching a sporting event?......

That's the point at which you turn off the volume or change the channel.

Last year I made it a point to stop getting super angry at golf.  This was after I witnessed a friend snap a 6 iron in half on his bag after chucking it towards his bag.  I also lost a 3 wood in this manner.  It's just golf after all.  Since I decided this I have a hard time even trying to get mad on the course.  Playing for money (small money in my case, that I could easily afford to lose) I find no point in getting too angry after a shot.  Notice too angry.  I'll still get mad for a few seconds or have a minor fit, but I won't throw clubs.  I'll utter a few choice words if need be after a shot.  Then, I take a nice deep breath, place my club back in the bag and ponder the best way to get out of the ****ing trouble I've put myself in.  No use getting mad after a shot is hit.  Anger will not cause the ball to move, nor will it allow me to hit it again.  What is done is done.  The best thing to do is get yourself back into the best position to make the best score possible.

Edit: Swearing, yes I do it all the time.  That is what I mean by a few choice words.  I just don't shout them anymore.  But it is hilarious when I hear a random **** or SHIT or GODDAMN MOTHER****ER on the course.

I take golf very seriously, so it's a big deal to me when I mes up. That is, upset for about 1 sec, then I let a "golly gee" "hoo nelly" then I convince myself someone moved the ball or the club is messed up and I have no anger problems after that. Gotta trust the swing! But I do smile hearing the expetives from somehwere else on the course.

    • Day 3 (11 Mar 26) - midweek round with friends.  Good session with an 83 (38 / 45).  Got some great up and down pars (6 of 9) with a total 27 putts.  Made for a relaxed round.
    • Day 206 3-11 Focused on wider backswing and reconnecting arm in downswing. Wasn't really happy with how swing was looking today. Wider backswing is very different for me. Went back to do a some longer pauses at the top. Hit a few foam balls.
    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. I bolded the big group of each set.  Most beneficial with the weather Round 1: No. 1 tee, Round 2: No. 10 tee 7:40 a.m., 12:30 p.m.: Mark Hubbard, Thorbjørn Olesen, Mac Meissner 7:52 a.m., 12:42 p.m.: Bud Cauley, Vince Whaley, Chandler Phillips 8:04 a.m., 12:54 p.m.: Emiliano Grillo, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Max Greyserman 8:16 a.m., 1:06 p.m.: Kevin Yu, Cam Davis, Gary Woodland 8:28 a.m., 1:18 p.m.: Ricky Castillo, Ryan Gerard, Patrick Cantlay 8:40 a.m., 1:30 p.m.: Adam Schenk, Garrick Higgo, Matt McCarty 8:52 a.m., 1:42 p.m.: Brian Harman, Maverick McNealy, Davis Riley 9:04 a.m., 1:54 p.m.: Sami Valimaki, Lucas Glover, Matt Fitzpatrick 9:16 a.m., 2:06 p.m.: Michael Brennan, Harris English, J.T.
