1. Slow play, waiting for the group in front to move along. Golfing has become nearly a full-day event if you count proper warm-up on the practice green, driving range. Some of the slow play is due to high handicap players on the course who take quite awhile to finish each hole. In some countries like Germany, you have to take a test and show you're capable of playing at a certain level before being allowed to play on the course.

2. I've become accustomed to play with a group. Playing alone complicates slow play - when you have several singles out amongst groups, the course really backs up. If I'm the only one on the course, I can finish a round quickly. But normally, I enjoy the commaraderie of being with others and there is more pressure to play better when I'm with others.

3/4. I use Golfnow a lot and sometimes get paired with other golfers. I usually find 40-50% discounts (like yesterday I paid $12 for a round that costs $25-30).

5. There are several ways to trade-in nowadays, but I find that the trade-in value is pretty poor so I bring my equipment in to consignment stores or donate to the local golf team (high school) or thrift shops.

1. Slow play 2. Group, preferably friends who are similar or better players. 3. No. 4. No. I play as often as I can, over 100 rounds a year. $10 won't cause me to play a round when I otherwise wouldn't have. 5. It really depends on the cost vs improvement. Call it ROI. Will I pay $500 to get another 3 yards out of a driver? No. Will I pay $20 to get another 50 yds? Sure. By the way, there are 5 questions. :-)

1. Double bogeys--I guess inconsitency. I don't mind a bogey but a double(which I get several) means I have done something stupid. 2. I prefer a group- but don't mind and occasional solo round. 3. Not currently, but if I moved to a place where I did not know folks, maybe. 4. Yes 5. Ha, no see my sig. Looks like it came from a bad yard sale. I also tend to hang on to stuff and buy something else. I will probably spring for a new wedge this year.

1. It is not my place to tell people which courses they should play. However it is very much the course managements place to tell them where to play from, and my biggest frustration is high handicappers playing from the wrong tees. There is a 'play it forward' campaign which is designed to increase your enjoyment, but sadly there is too much damage to the machismo in playing from tees at a mere 6,300 yards. 2. I like to play different courses, many of my friends do not, so playing in the group is good but I also understand I will have to play as a single. Sometimes I even get a course to myself as I did at Presidio GC a few months ago - not a soul I front or behind me for 18 holes. 3. My experience of sites that bring players together is that they are less than effective. The NCGA eClub San Francisco I belong to has a web page which allows you to 'meet' players, but the 2000 members simply don't use it. I am a member at www.greenskeeper.org and we have regular tournaments which brings people together, but I think playing as a single will probably be more of a useful means to meet players to join up with for future rounds. 4. The following words sell: FREE / SEX / $10 DISCOUNT - but if your course isn't well maintained even $20 off isn't going to appeal. 5. Last year I replaced my clubs and was horrified at the 'trade in value' offered by both online and retail outlets. They now sit in my garage so I have a spare set if friends, colleagues or relatives are in town and want to golf.

Oops. I kind of have a reading comprehension problem. Regarding my answer to #5. Absolutely, I would trade-in my equipment in a heartbeat if I could improve my game somehow. I'm a firm believer in playing the correct equipment for your swing and having equipment that fits your game/swingspeed/etc. I see so many people trying to adapt their game to the equipment they pick off the shelf.

When you say you're on the ASU golf team without qualifying it, people think the competitive D-1 collegiate team....Phil Mickelson, Billy Mayfair, Bob Gilder, Paul Casey, et.al.... Nothing wrong with a 9.9 index, but it won't get you in to polish their golf shoes. ;-)

1. People that take forever to play and insist on keeping score and playing out every shot on every hole when it's obvious that they aren't going to come close to breaking 100.

2. With other people. The club I used to belong to had very little play and there were many, many, many days when I played all day long without seeing another person on the course. Even if I hit the best shot ever hit nobody saw and nobody cared.

3. Wouldn't do any good where I live. I already know all of the golfers and when they play.

4. Absolutely!!! They only charge me $11 for 18 holes with a cart where I play so that would knock it down to $1.

5. Sure. Would like to have a better fitting driver right now.

What's the most frustrating thing about playing golf?  That your results from one day to the next can be completely different without little indication why.

Do you like to golf alone or with a group? Groups, I practice along, play rounds in grougs.

Would you play more golf if you had a $10 discount? No, belong to a private club, play as much as business and personal life allows

Would you trade your equipment if it improved your game? Yes, and usually do, always in search of the golden club that makes the game easier.  Problem is, no such club exists.

1 - slow play, rounds that are 5+ hours - people who aren't ready to play when it is their turn

2 - I no longer play competitive golf, therefore it is all a social outing for me - 100% play in a group

3 - not really, I'll hook up with people at the course if I need a pairing

4 - nah, price isn't one of the things keeping me away from playing more golf.....my kids are keeping me away (but that is a good thing)

5 - yeah I would, but what really helps improve your game is lessons & practice

FWIW - I think courses should charge by the hour, or give discounts if you play quickly. I played with a buddy last summer - we were the first group out, another group let us go ahead of them on the first tee. We played in just over 2.5 hours and crossed paths with the other group as we were heading to the 18th tee & they were heading to play the 11th. We were not rushing around the course, but played when ready and didn't need to stare down every shot and read every putt from 3 sides of the hole.

I would pay more to play rounds in under 4 hours.
