I find Tarantino to be hit or miss for the most part.  Loved Kill Bill, but was bored silly with the sequel ( except for the pai Mai scenes).  Pulp Fiction puts me to sleep before the diner scene ends, like clockwork.  I was very surprised with how much I loved Django, but thought IB was waaaay too long.

What We Do In The Shadows finally came up on my cable service.  I'll give it a missed ten footer for par.  I found it enjoyable, without being as funny as I thought it could be.  Werewolves versus vampires scene was memorable.

Good job of trivializing what he said.  It is possible to be against police brutality (I am) without blanketly calling police murderers particularly at at a time when police are increasingly being made targets.

The quote was something like let's call murderers murderers ... That doesn't say "all police" to me.  But you take it however you want - I don't care.  I'm going to gleefully keep watching and enjoying his movies just like people continue to enjoy Woody Allen movies or Roman Polanski movies.

Stay on topic please.

Bad Words - Directed by Jason Bateman. Birdie. His character is very irreverent and funny.

It's rare that I go to a movie theater to see a movie. The last one I recall seeing was this great movie

  • Forgettable opening song, impossible to follow up Adele though. Score was repetitive. Skyfall one of the best Bond songs ever.
  • Doctor Swann - I hate you. I love you. I'm leaving you. I'm back.
  • Most action scenes made no sense. I was bored by them. Let's twist and shout this helicopter. The plane chase. What was that? That was Quantum of Solace bad. The car chase where he pushed the smart car was funny. Train fight wasn't bad, but not as visceral as fight in Casino Royale w/Vesper.
  • Plot made no sense. Full of holes.
  • Waltz did the best he could - but my daddy didn't pay attention to me because of you, so I'm gonna wreak havoc on your life and torture you Bond? Not enough motivation.
  • The new MI6 HQ is all glass? It's a clandestine organization.
  • Bond shots a helicopter down in the night, on a boat, with a pistol? Original.

It could have been so good. The had great actors, loads of money. As always, it's the writing.

Sigh. Vesper was the most interesting woman in the Bond reboot.

"I'm the money."

"Every cent of it."

To quote Craig on the idea of doing another Bond movie,
"Craig has implied as much in previous interviews. But this time, he left no doubt when asked, "Can you imagine doing another Bond movie?"

"Now? I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That's fine. I'm over it at the moment. We're done. All I want to do is move on.""

I think he might have been just tired of playing Bond, and was contractually obligated to do so. Honestly, I can see how he might not give his 100% in this final one for him.

I'll still go see it. I must see them all :)

By all means, imho, if you're a Bond fan, you'll enjoy it. I was being a negative nabob clouded by how good Casino Royale/Skyfall were, grading on a tougher curve. Fun seeing Waltz and Craig together.

damn you Steven, i had my hopes up for this....bond is my favorite franchise, since i was a wee boy.

Spectre is still better than many past Bond films, especially the latter Brosnan ones (An invisible car? Spit.) And the box office was very good in the UK, and not too bad here, it's a little less than Skyfall's so far so I'm in the minority. I just thought it's Craig's last, it's directed by someone who made a really good Bond film before so expected a lot. I didn't read the Sony hack e-mails but sounds like it got killed by decisions by committee management. Wait for others to chime in. I'm a pretty tough critic. I mean, it was fun in spots, I'd watch it again on the small screen.

I give it a solid par. Not the best, far from the worst, and so on.

I do wish there had been a bit more exploration of the film's namesake, though.

Out of all the spy movies this year, Bond, MI5, Kingsman, I'd have to say my favorite is The Man from UNCLE.

I guess there's no more debate as to whether or not Hollywood has run out of ideas:

That was a great movie.  It seems anything that is good gets remade in Hollywood.

A US remake of The Secret in their Eyes was just released. The original Argentinian film (I'd give it an eagle) was so good. The American version is rotten according to Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic's rating is almost half of the original. The last decent US remake I can think of is The Departed.

In my World History Class, we are watching, The Lion in Winter.  My students really enjoy this video and the wit contained in the video.

The US remake of The Girl with The Dragon Tatoo was really good. I would give both versions a birdie.

I saw Spectre Saturday. I give it a par. My third favorite Craig Bond movie. The movie felt rushed in developing the story. The happy ending felt forced. I really like Waltz as the head of Spectre.

I also rematches Almost Famous tonight. I give it a solid birdie.

Come to think of remakes, modern True Grit (Some bully shot) was better. As well as Ocean's Eleven. But those originals aren't exactly lauded by critics and the audience. Memento is.

    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
    • I've played the Tour in both white and yellow.  They play well and seem to hold up pretty good even when running into trees or cart paths.  Right now, I've been trying them against the Bridgestone Tour B RX ball and I really like both.  The Snell 3.0 looks to be a great update to the issues Snell was running into with the previous generation.
