Wow!  Did not expect that ending.

I'd give it a birdie.  More depth to the character than previous 007 movies.

I am a Bond fan and a fan of Craigs portrayal. I however did not especially enjoy this one(No Time to Die) The ending was not very Bond. Will watch again in a few days. Craigs Bond in my order of preference. Skyfall, Casino Royale, Spectre, Quantum of Solice and No Time to Die. I get what they tried to do by making them connected stories. Bogey for me with a chance at mulligan off the 1st tee.

The Eternals - par. Its intentions were good, but you know what they say about good intentions. Liked the casting, and what it was trying for, but there were too many characters, the writing was meh, some cringey scenes involving real life history and while they bought on the director of Nomadland and The Rider, she could not escape the Disney/Marvel vortex, despite some critics arguing the opposite. It was better than Iron Man 2 or Captain Marvel imho.

Here Today - Birdie. Billy Crystal directed an starred in this along with Tiffany Haddish. It was not what I expected and is really a drama with some funny parts. My wife and I really liked it.

Red Notice, which was in theaters only for a week and which I was going to go see in a theater until I realized it's also free on Netflix… I give it a birdie.

It's got a 37% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, but 92% from audience members. It's funny, has some decent action and fight sequences, and I liked the history and mystery, as made up as it was. Like a Dan Brown novel, lite.

Duplicity, birdie.

A good bunch of twists with some reasonably good acting. An older movie (2009), but one I enjoyed re-watching. I don't remember much from the first watching (probably in 2009 or '10). I remembered a few parts. But it was almost new to me.

I watched this again tonight. 🙂

tick, tick... Boom! Eagle. Netflix movie directed by LMM (Hamilton) about Rent writer/composer Jonathan Larson's early career. More for the theater/musicals crowd, but even if you know nothing about Rent, or Hamilton, the songs are great, it's a compelling story about creatives, also a tragic one. And all the New York nostalgia of the 90s.

Dune. Or should I say, Dunc? Eagle. Big downside is the story isn’t finished.

Absolutely.

I like the grand scale of the movie, and how they introduced all the major players in the story and did some good world building. Being that, the movie for some could drag a bit. It is not the fast pacing style of movie you tend to see today. For me, I give it a tap in Birdie.

I agree that it doesn't follow modern styles as far as pacing, but I would argue that that is a good thing. People have become far to used to constant over-sensatory movies, where action is the only thing that matters.

A good story is far more interesting to me. I am 70% through the first 6 Dune books according to my kindle (start of book 5), and I thought the movie should have been less fast. There are plenty of things that were added in (not in the book) that could have been replaced with even better story telling (things from the book).

I am super excited that they green lit part 2, and hopefully we will get even more. Even more will probably just be Messiah, because after that things get unexplainable in movie form.

My only complaint about the movie was the casting of Duncan (Mamoa), as he we just the "bro dude relatable comic relief". I thought taking away Gurney's good laughable moments and giving them to Idaho was a disservice to all Dune fans. I wasn't impressed with Mamoa, though he was just doing what was asked of him, but the switch of character roles was like nails on the chalkboard to me.

I'd also give it an eagle, but it could have been an albatross by staying truer to the source material.

I just saw this, I'm going with bogey.

It feels like there was nothing new here and everything had been done better someplace else. I agree. Better than Captain Marvel, but I'd call it a tie with Iron Man 2. This felt like the kind of movie I kept thinking was going to get better but never did.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Actually went to the arthouse theater for the first time since lockdown and saw The Hand of God. Par. I'm not crazy about Sorrentino's movies, just wanted to see what the movie theater was like after Netflix took it over and wanted to see Naples and hear Italian. Love his abstract dream sequences and style of camerawork, but the find your purpose story has been done many times before and the movie does hit you over the head with its points. Also watched The Power of the Dog, birdie. Not all Westerns need to have guns and I thought I knew where this movie was going in the beginning but it veered another way which caught me off guard.

What?!  Westerns without guns?  Blasphemous!   (Actually, that sounds very refreshing)  Next thing you'll tell me it was without horses.

There are horses, but the location wasn't in the US, it was in New Zealand.

Watched it. Liked it. Beautiful cinematography. Two questions, how and where did he take a dump in these climbs?

Lol. I’m sure we know how that went. But for me, I’d be so puckered up that wouldn’t even be possible.

    • Yea, but a deeper face makes it not as useful off the fairway. This is why the driver is not easy to hit off the fairway.  For a select few PGA Tour players, it might be good. The concept of the mini driver has been around for a long time now. Very few ever keep it in their bag. This is a guess, but probably because it sucks off the ground. Nothing here looks like it is any different than the other mini drivers of the past.  I get it from Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris point of view. They hit the ball a long way. The odds they ever hit a 3-wood off the turf is like what, a handful a times a year? They probably would hit it 98% off the tee and 2% off the ground. They probably want something that think is longer off the tee versus their 3-wood because they don't hit the 3-wood off the ground much at all.  This is where I say, Titleist claiming "worked as a go-to club off the tee and off the deck." is more marketing than something that is actually beneficial to a golfer. This is primarily for off the tee.
    • One thing I've noticed with Mini Drivers is that the manufacturers seem like they keep their quantities somewhat limited.  The last two TaylorMade Mini's and the Callaway AI Smoke Mini were sold out quickly.
    • Huh? That's the niche of these mini-drivers. They can still work off the tee and off the fairway. They're designed for and work for both things, which is all that blurb says. You can see from the photos that it's a bit of a deeper face, which I find is more important off the tee than the fairway.
    • This statement doesn't make much sense to me.  So, I think the push and pull between a 3-wood meant for off the turf versus off the tee is how tall the face is on the 3-wood. I do not get how this mini driver would be good off the turf, or at least get the height needed to stop the ball as a normal 3-wood meant for off the ground. Maybe they care more about hitting the 3-wood off the tee versus off the turf. Nearly every strike would be low on the clubface relative to the CG location.  I would take that statement as more as marketing over what you would actually expect the club to perform.
    • No, not that Minnie Driver. This one: It's a mini driver from Titleist, available for Tour validation/testing starting this week at Kapalua. It's available in righty and lefty and is only in 13° models for now. GT280 is a direct result of Titleist’s collaboration with PGA TOUR players on the development and testing of the TSR 2W prototype, which debuted on TOUR at last year’s PLAYERS Championship. With many players seeking an additional option at the top end of their setup, Titleist tour reps and R&D engineers worked with players such as Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris to dial in a 13-degree head that worked as a go-to club off the tee and off the deck. Now on Tour: New Titleist GT280 The arrival of the 2025 PGA TOUR season this week in Maui brings with it an addition to Titleist’s breakthrough line of GT metalwoods: the new Titleist GT280.
