I am working on my nephew and brother in law. Buying my nephew (8yrs old) I set of clubs this week, and then flying down to see him in a few weeks and take him to the range. I figure if I can get him hooked, my brother and law will follow.

Does it count, if we "re-introduce" a former player who quit for one reason or another?

Either way, count me in.

I don't make the rules but I would think that should count.

From the OP

I think everyone here should pledge to essentially "create a golfer." It can be a badly relapsed golfer (i.e. someone who played ten years ago but hasn't played since, or something), a brand new golfer, someone who only plays once a year in your corporate scramble, something.

Found my target and will try and take him to course on Saturday.. Question.. Do you guys think it is better to only take him to range and try and show him stuff or should I just take him to course and say this is what you need to do.. i.e. Get ball in hole in least amount if swings?

It's tough to say - it can depend on the person. Some people don't like the pressure of being on the course, but some people don't like that hitting balls on the range doesn't seem to have a point.

The nature of my work at the golf course leads to this every day. Just because I've done it recently doesn't mean I won't pledge to do it over and over. This is a great idea...

I've had a good day if I don't fall out of the cart...

I occasionally took my little brother to the range. He seemed interested so far. It's been a month and he showed much swing improvement.

I'm planning to take him to the course as soon as he able to swing a driver consistently. Time will tell.

Does it count if she hasn't played since the late 70s, but has gone to the range about a dozen times since then (including once in 2013, with me)? If so, I'll use this as an excuse to get her to the course ... I'm confident that once she plays nine holes at a par-3 near her house, she'll be hooked. And it'll help get my nearly-lapsed self back (only approx. 20 rounds since summer 2011... I used to be good for that many seasons). Plan of action: take her to the L.A. Open (done before reading this), the range more regularly, and buy her at least a set of irons before the weather gets better. And to play at least a par-3 course before the end of summer. If not... I'll figure someone else out. I actually took a date last summer to the driving range, and she enjoyed, but then called to tell me how sore she was the next day. And I thought it was a girl who was in shape. Sadly not a girl I'm still in touch with.

Been trying for years to get my brother into the game. Hopefully this is the year it happens. He is already registered to play in a May outing with me so hopefully it sticks.

I got my Dad to start playing last year, he was 68, and now he is addicted to golf. Practices every day the weather is good, mostly chipping and wedges and tries to play once a week.

Well the opportunity suits me well this year. I have three players to introduce to golf. My co worker, spouse and my step son. I tried last year to get my co-worker to go hit a par three course just around the block from his house..gave him a set of clubs, bag and balls to hit with, sent him an online beginner tutorial, he seemed anxious to get out..but the clubs were returned in October without seeing any action. The spouse is year to year, maybe this is the year. Step son probably my best bet as we do bowl and shoot pool together since his arrival last month. wish me luck..

I've got a candidate in the ex-boyfriend of a buddy's sister. My friend took a bit more of shine to the fella than his sister did apparently. Anyway, we did get him out once last year and he didn't break down in tears even once.

Said friend just upgraded his clubs and the plan was (or maybe still is) to sell them to the guy at a bargain. I'll do my part and get him out a few times.

I was able to get my dad to get back into the game two years ago, I'm sure I can find another person willing to discover the best game ever created. Sign me up!

We must harness the crystiles.

    • Day 85 - Played 9. Driver was solid, approach shots were pushed, chipping/pitching was better, putting was rough.
    • Day 514, March 28, 2024 Quick ten minutes while waiting for the wife to come home for our trip.
    • Day 262: did a stack session. Worked on rehearsal swings during rest breaks.
    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
