Sorry if this has been started somewhere long ago, but I couldn't find anything in the search so here goes.

Two things come to mind. One was the first "oversize" driver I saw. It was a Killer Whale circa 1992. It looked ridiculous. I have no idea how many cc's it was but it was bigger than my little metal wood.

The second thing was seeing a stand bag around the same time in Germany. I said to myself that'll never catch on. Should have invested in that company.

Just curios to see what you remember seeing for the first time( golf wise that is) and your thoughts at the time.

A brush tee tied to a string with a pin attached (so the tee never flies too far away). The golfer had to bend over to place both the tee AND the pin in the ground. I thought it was stupid the first time I saw it, and I still do.

Practice range at a PGA Tour event - I've seen other sports up close and was aware of the separation between pro and amateur. Especially tennis, but was amazed at how effortless, long and consistent the tour pros were.

Anyone see golf in 4K yet?

Golf shows?

The only golf show that I can even remember from back then was Shell's Wonderful World of Golf......

How about the first time you saw the little red ball at the center of a balata golf ball?  I don't even want to know how many people reading this don't even know what I'm talking about! :-(

The first color TV for me was my freshman year at college.  They had a fairly crappy one in the rec room in the dorm.  When I got home that summer, Dad had bought one and we watched any show that the TV Guide said was in color.  We watched some pretty lousy shows just because they they started with the NBC Peacock opening his colored tail.   I did watch Shell's Wonderful World then, even though it was still a few years before I became interested in playing golf.

Yeah.  I can't even say that it was a Titleist, but it was a wound balata ball.  My cousin and I were on a voyage of discovery and cut open one of his dad's golf balls.  We were astounded to find what seemed like a mile of rubber band, wrapped around a rubber core.  It was also a shock to us to find that the rubber core didn't have nearly as much bounce as the whole ball did before we dissected it.  We thought it would be like a Superball, but the core was actually rather dead.  Many of the premium balls pumped a liquid into the core (the first 4 piece ball - liquid, solid rubber, wound rubber and balata cover), and that was composition of the premium balls for quite a long time.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
