OMG!!! We won!! Holy crap that was an awesome game. I was so pissed when Ghana scored. Then we come back with the corner kick, that was kickass!

Ghana kept control of the ball the entire game, but when we needed to score, the guys did it.

Revenge is sweet and best served cold.

USA USA USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at all those people partying now, this is cool stuff.

My colleague and I watched the last 13 minutes of the game, and it was definitely keeping us on the edge of our seats.

Cool last 13 minutes, right as Ghana scored the tie, and the us came back with a head shot.

They were saying the USA teams since playing in the World Cup since the 1990s, that they have only won 4 matches in 22 games.

I couldn't believe that statistic, it just shows how difficult it is to win.

Make that 5 for 23 now.

Ghana's a tough team, too.

Great match.  Super result.  I can only tune in via internet and highly recommend the UK news paper online 'futbol' pages at

www.telegraph.co.uk

the reporting is only  30 second delayed and the reporters very knowledgeable soccer guys.  USA sites for live updates much slower due to MASSIVE ADVERTS.

Wow didn't even know you'd care that much for football. Great win for the USA guys congrats. Haven't seen the match but from what I read they stole the game.

I am predicting the US to go 0-1-2. So a loss to the Germans and draws against Ghana and Portugal. Defensively the US have a good chance, but a challenge for them to score enough against the Germans or the Portuguese.  No hate, just being realistic.

I guess I need to revise my prediction. Really great win and a great game to watch. Very tense right done to the last second.

Your predictions are as bad in soccer as they are in golf! ;-) :-D

What do y'all think of our chances of drawing with Portugal? Even though they got killed by Germany and Ronaldo is injured-ish, a win is gonna be tough, realistically speaking.

Can someone explain to me why the US uniforms look like the French flag?

Ghana missed many opportunities.  The US gave up possession too easily.  They will not fair as well in the next games if they keep that up.

A win would be tough but they could do it, a draw is realistic I think. In some ways Ghana is more of a nightmare for the US than Portugal is. Portugal is going to be desperate though, and if you give them those chances they will probably finish it. If Bradley and Beckerman(if they both start again) don't hold the ball in the center better we will be in trouble. If they do, we can win this match.

I've never watched a soccer game (or match or whatever they call it) in my life other than playing our version of it at recess in school when they told us we couldn't play "smear" or "tackle basketball" anymore.

Looks like this World Cup is going to be an experiment to see if I can be converted enough to watch a game based on exposure. I usually watch Mike and Mike or The Herd if I'm around the house in the morning and every time I turn on the TV that's what they are talking about.

It's not really that I don't like soccer (after all it's a game and I like any game) but more that I don't know much about it and it was never a part of my world.

It does raise my eyebrows a little that some of the guys on ESPN that never "liked" soccer at all now suddenly like it. :hmm:

Sort of reminds me of people that suddenly like a product when they start getting paid to like that product.

I do of course hope the USA wins when they play whether I watch it or not and that would be the case no matter what sport it is.

    • Ooh, I don't know about that. I've hit flop shots that are 6-7° down. The more you widen the spin loft the less ball speed you put into the ball.

    • Can't brag about a 50 last night but it was the best round of my season (4 rounds of 9 holes) so I am not as upset as I could be.  One thing I am noticed is that I got a little more confident in my long hybrids and I attempted a couple longer shots that typically I would just lay up and those holes were a big part of the lower score.  Not every shot was great but good enough that they helped.  I even shot par on a Par 5 after taking a drop.  On that hole I would usually lay-up to @ 100 yards and often miss the green altogether with my 3rd shot (or worse chunk my approach and put it in the waste area).  Yesterday I went for it from @ 200 yards out with wind in my face and landed in the waste area short of the green.  My drop left @ 40 yards in and I stuck it to 3 feet for my par putt.  If I had laid up I would have avoided the penalty stroke but likely would not have been on the green in regulation and may still have been working for par.  By going for it I gave myself a chance at birdie and still saved par. I do not plan on being crazy aggressive but I think I tend to be too conservative at times so I will "go for it" a little more often going forward.
    • Day 14 (15 May 24) - Worked with the SW in the backyard, short pitches from 10yds up to 30yds.   Focused on ball placement in stance - ball back, ball forward, ball center.  Afterwards moved to inside the shop to work on putting pace on the rug - putting one way gives about an 8' putt, going the other a 6' before bumping onto the adjacent rug.  Focused there on the line - picking a target point about 18"-24" out and making sure the ball rolls through that point.
