I missed this in the TV coverage. How embarrassing.

When I saw the title of the video and the thumbnail, I assumed he was going to fall backwards into the water. I think those two flubs might have been worse. :-(

That was just bad. Then he pulls he putter, which is one of those huge mallet ones. If I was him, I would have taken a hybrid or 4 iron and putted it. I think the smaller clubhead would have made the 2nd attempt a non-issue.

That is EXACTLY what I thought as well.

Back to Speith: just looked up OWGR and he finished T4 in a tournament with the best field in golf and still lost a spot in the rankings. Brutal.

The best thing Spieth is doing is putting himself in these positions at such a young age and gaining experience. David Duval had something like 15 runners up before he broke out with his first win. Eventually he's going to know how to handle himself in these positions and know how to win tournaments. Consistency sometimes is a better thing than winning when you're so young.

I fully agree with the comment, yet: heaven forbid, with al Duval's (indeed curious intellectual) qualities, that Spieth goes down that eventual shades-hiding slope. He is technically not better than Duval, but I think he takes life (as a very young man) in general less seriously than the D in his prime, which indeed might be Spieth's eventual up-step. Spieth knows golf and only golf. D knew and knows so much more about life than golf. For a professional, that is both good and bad.

Spieth's anxiety on Sunday is absolutely normal: he is not 21 yet, for grace' sake.

Duval had allergies that effected his eyes. Wearing glasses helped him keep the pollen out of his eyes.

Same here. I guess I would rather be dry and have those to hits, then just fall in and do something worse.

I'm not even sure I know what I'm supposed to do, rules-wise, in your hypothetical situation. If I hit into the water such that my stroke was taken *between* where the ball enters the water and the hole, where do I play my next from?

Swatting at the grass behind his ball was not a good move, could be considered improving his lie.

I think most of the officials turned away in horror...

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
