I just got back from the driving range and had a challenge of hitting sand wedge with my friend, so I know my 56° wedge consistently goes 105 yards with about 10 yards of draw. I couldn't tell you what my driver speed is because I've never had it measured, and I only hit 3 wood off of the tee anyway, haha.

Yup. Don't worry about how your distance compares to other people's. Find your distance, then dial it in and make it consistent. If you need to hit it longer, just grab another club.

This is what it's about.  It's not "How far?" --  it's "I know how far."  Doesn't matter what club I hit that far, only that I know what club I hit that far. :smartass:

I hit my wedges extremely far:

60: 80 yds

56: 100 yds

PW: 120 yds

But I'm not a big hitter.  6 iron goes 160.  Driver 240 on a good hit.  So as somebody said, it's very personal.  I hit my wedges fairly low so that's why I believe they go further.  Delofting the club.  Fortunately, I spin the ball fairly well despite that so I don't have too much run out on those clubs.

I don't find that extreme at all. Those pretty much match my distances (6 iron and driver included). I hit my wedges high (when I'm not mired in the suck). My 56* goes a little over 100 yards on a good strike.

After having more airmails today than the Postal Service all I can say is that it's not what I thought it was yesterday. I'm going to have to find some time to play some golf during the week so I have some sort of clue how far shots are going to go on the weekend.

Sorry - that doesn't work unless you factor in the weekend premium. :smartass:

Yeah that's right, and I don't like math anyway. Somehow I got away from playing feel shots to a target and went with the old "hit and hope" philosophy. ;-) Rusty wasn't a strong enough word.

I hit my 56 about 100 yds and 60 about 80 yds.

I love to hate this damn game.

My 58* is right on 85 and my 54* is right on 105, so I would think 56* would be 95.

These days ... About 80 yards ... Just do not hit any of my clubs as far, since I am changing my swing ... By I get a lot more height on all my irons ... Which I will trade for distance right now ...

Guessing that you fit the LPGA distance profile plus a few mph like many of us, but I can't tell with one data point. Stock PW carries 107 for them, which is 49-50 degrees (not a GI club type loft).

Except for Lexi, and maybe a few pothers. IIRC, lexi hits her PW 140, or some crazy number... :-D

This is what it's about.  It's not "How far?" --  it's "I know how far."  Doesn't matter what club I hit that far, only that I know what club I hit that far.

I don't know if I agree with this statement.

Clubs are made to go certain distance for an average player with certain level of skill.

.

If I find that I'm consistently hitting 10-15, or more, yards shorter than someone of my skill level and "strength", I'm thinking I'm not maximizing my swing.... time to hit the range.

.

But mainly I was just looking for a range of distance for my 56*.

But, for me, right now 100 yards seems out of reach.

In my bag Driver: Cleveland CG tour black Fairway Woods: Diablo Octane 3 wood; Diablo 5 wood Irons: Mizuno MP53 5-9 Hybrid: Cobra 3, 4 T-Rail Wedge: 46* Cleveland, 50* Cleveland, 54* Titleist, 60* Titleist Putter: Odyssey protype #6 Ball: Maxfli U4/U6... But I'm not really picky about the ball I use.

Maybe you put it too far forward in your stance?

    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
