In another thread about "What I've learned from 6 rounds of Arccos", several people responded about their experiences the Game Golf as well.   I did also but starting thinking about the putts lost and my use/application.   I don't mark the hole location when correcting the round (I don't pair it with my phone).    I make sure it shows when I 3 putt but sometimes the distances of each putt isn't close.   I'm sure that affects the strokes lost.    What's the correct procedure for correcting putts before signing the round?

I pair mine with my phone so I fix mine while waiting on the next tee that way I dont forget where the hole location was.

What I did last round was write down each putt distance and make that the same via the computer.    It did make a difference in strokes gained/lost putting.   Now if I can only remember....

For putts, I combine it with my pencil scorecard. I will write down a Putts row where I write the amount of putts and length of my initial putt.

Not sure how huge a difference it makes for the 2nd putt distance? Im usually putting 1-3 feet unless I vividly remember missing the 1st putt bad and having 5-10 feet for a 2nd putt.

Second putt distance is irrelevant, except maybe if they add putt make % by distance (and you regularly hit your first putt to larger distances).

Question:  is it a good idea to use the Game Golf to record a round if it's being played as match play?  I understand not to do so for a scramble, and to do so for stroke play.  Am I likely to get misleading data for match play or is it likely a wash?  I suspect most holes won't be much different at my level (I'd only do things like go for pins if forced).

Just add the putts or whatever you're given later. Unless you don't finish out or get close to finishing out most holes, that is.

Thanks, and good point.  I figure for a 2' given putt, yeah, if I don't get a chance to tag it on course I can add it later.  If my opponent is giving me a lot of 10' putts or conceding off the green, I can remove the hole if it's once or twice and the round if it happens frequently.

If the match finishes before 18 holes, I plan to play the remaining holes anyway (daily fee course, might as well) so at that point I'll play out to the hole.

Funny occurrence today: my GG tag fell of my putter during the round, so I threw it in my bag after I finished playing.  I guess I forgot to turn off the GG device.

It recorded a "round" where I shot 1,144 (1140 over par!) with 1,144 putts.  Basically, you can follow the trail as it recorded shots during the entire drive home:

It's neat that they kind of correlate to speed, also - you could tell when we were on the highway versus sitting at traffic lights.

I tried to sign the round, just to see what the Strokes Gained stats ended up looking like...but it didn't work.  Still pretty amusing.

Possibly. I didn't have any issues with the round today (except for that one hole you saw) and I had it turned on when I was on the practice green. For the round yesterday at Little Mill I didn't turn it on until the I got to the first tee. Might have done the same thing at Lawrence Park, don't remember exactly.

Here is today's round, course was wet but fun to play.

http://www.gamegolf.com/round/86380

I noticed on the par 5 5th hole you hit your 2nd shot in the bunker, hit a GW from 70 yds on the green and 2-putted for par, and it counted it as a "sand save".  Does it do that automatically, or do you manually input a stat like that?  It wasn't a greenside bunker, and although you made par it wasn't an up-and-down, so I'm curious about that stat.

Improve your putting from 30-30,000' to reduce your score by 1,100 strokes per round.

When I took my GG off my belt today, I noticed the belt clip is a little loose.  Any ideas if this is something that I can fix or would I end up buying a new unit?

Define "loose". Is the spring gone? Is it cracking?

The part that my belt goes between used to barely come out, now it is able to come out a bit.  I don't think the spring is gone.  There's a minor crack but it doesn't go through.

Update in case anyone finds this and wants to know:

1.  See attached picture for how far off the belt clip part is.

2. I found this link in support and I am going to email them to ask if this qualifies: https://gamegolf.desk.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2262219-belt-clip-replacement?b_id=10625

I emailed GG last night with the information in the above comment;  I woke up this morning to an email from them saying they're shipping me a replacement belt clip.

That's some A++ customer service.  Quick replacement and they're open on the weekend?  For a product I've owned for over two years.  It was already a product I was happy to recommend to people, but now I'm even happier to do so knowing they take care of the customers so well.

This might be in the 57 pages of the thread, but I couldn't find it in the GG FAQ and I'll probably sort through this thread later if someone doesn't know offhand.

My insights > strokes gained tells me putts inside 10' could improve by 1.1 shots per round when I compare to a 10 handicap (this does not surprise anyone who knows me).  Is there a way for me to find out from the software whether it's inside 5' or 5-10'?  Those are at least somewhat different routines.  As it stands I'm practicing "short and I should make most of these" putts about equal with the 8' putts (where about half would be really good), but if one category is worse than the other, I should up the practice in that range.

For me, I suspect it's the longer ones (as my lack of success with Broadie's 10' drill might illustrate), but I'd like to know a bit more if possible.

    • Day 470 - 2026-01-13 Got some work in while some players were using the sim, so I had to stick around. 🙂 Good thing too, since… I hadn't yet practiced today until about 6:45 tonight. 😛
    • That's not quite the same thing as what some people messaged me today.
    • Day 152 1-12 More reps bowing wrists in downswing. Still pausing at the top. Making sure to get to lead side and getting the ball to go left. Slow progress is better than no progress.
    • Yea, if I were to make a post arguing against the heat map concept, citing some recent robot testing would be my first point. The heat map concept is what I find interesting, more on that below. The robot testing I have looked at, including the one you linked, do discreet point testing then provide that discrete data in various forms. Which as you said is old as the hills, if you know of any other heat map concept type testing, I would be interested in links to that though! No, and I did say in my first post "if this heat map data is valid and reliable" meaning I have my reservations as well. Heck beyond reservations. I have some fairly strong suspicions there are flaws. But all I have are hunches and guesses, if anyone has data to share, I would be interested to see it.  My background is I quit golfing about 9 years ago and have been toying with the idea of returning. So far that has been limited to a dozen range sessions in late Summer through Fall when the range closed. Then primarily hitting foam balls indoors using a swing speed monitor as feedback. Between the range closing and the snow flying I did buy an R10 and hit a few balls into a backyard net. The heat map concept is a graphical representation of efficiency (smash factor) loss mapped onto the face of the club. As I understand it to make the representation agnostic to swing speed or other golfer specific swing characteristics. It is more a graphical tool not a data tool. The areas are labeled numerically in discrete 1% increments while the raw data is changing at ~0.0017%/mm and these changes are represented as subtle changes in color across those discrete areas. The only data we care about in terms of the heat map is the 1.3 to 1.24 SF loss and where was the strike location on the face - 16mm heal and 5mm low. From the video the SF loss is 4.6% looking up 16mm heal and 5mm low on the heat map it is on the edge of where the map changes from 3% loss to 4%. For that data point in the video, 16mm heal, 5mm low, 71.3 mph swing speed (reference was 71.4 mph), the distance loss was 7.2% or 9 yards, 125 reference distance down to 116. However, distance loss is not part of a heat map discussion. Distance loss will be specific to the golfers swing characteristics not the club. What I was trying to convey was that I do not have enough information to determine good or bad. Are the two systems referencing strike location the same? How accurate are the two systems in measuring even if they are referencing from the same location? What variation might have been introduced by the club delivery on the shot I picked vs the reference set of shots? However, based on the data I do have and making some assumptions and guesses the results seem ok, within reason, a good place to start from and possibly refine. I do not see what is wrong with 70mph 7 iron, although that is one of my other areas of questioning. The title of the video has slow swing speed in all caps, and it seems like the videos I watch define 7i slow, medium, and fast as 70, 80, and 90. The whole question of mid iron swing speed and the implications for a players game and equipment choices is of interest to me as (according to my swing speed meter) over my ~decade break I lost 30mph swing speed on mine.
    • Maxfli, Maltby, Golfworks, all under the Dicks/Golf Galaxy umbrella... it's all a bit confounding. Looking at the pictures, they all look very, very similar in their design. I suspect they're the same club, manufactured in the same factory in China, just with different badging.  The whacky pricing structure has soured me, so I'll just cool my heels a bit. The new Mizuno's will be available to test very soon. I'm in no rush.
