First tournament since my trip to Brazil. My short game saved me but not enough. Tied for 3rd in the B Flight with a 76 gross/71 net (7.2 differential). We had a decent turnout with 4 flights of 25 players.

100 players IS a nice turnout.

Congrats.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Had an outstanding weekend in our annual four-flights two-man two-day tournament - Schaubach Cup. Finished at the top of our flight, got into an alternate shot playoff and finished runners up! Our best finish in last 4 years!

We shot a listless 68 (Shambles format) on day one and finished DFL. Pete had a rough day. But then played like mad men and shot shot 59 (best ball) on day two to finish first. Did not drop a single shot. A picture perfect ham-n-egg day. I don't think I have driven the ball better. Irons were mediocre, pitching and chipping decent but my putter of all clubs was my star. My putter of all clubs..! Made 4 spectacular bombs in the 25 to 40 feet range. Pete sang his own swan song. We tied two other teams but won basis of the tie breaking day two best score

We played well in the three hole elimination playoff against the other three flight winners but lost to the bomber team who got on the green in two on the par 5 final hole for a tap in birdie while we missed the birdie putt from about 20 feet.

All in all, the best weekend Pete and I've had in a few years! 😊

Our senior club’s 9th tournament in 2025. Shot a 79 (9.8 differential) at Paint Creek Golf & CC. My first time playing there. I gave away a few strokes but generally played well.

Played in the first round of Shawnee Hills  course tournament.

went 42+46. Just lost energy on the back nine.

Lots of pars and way too many big scores. Course has a lot of areas to lose a golf ball.

This is the adjusted score.

IMG_4240.png

I had to return to the tee twice. The first the guy I played with didn’t tell me my ball bounced into the trees behind the green. 😡

the 2nd one I hit a decent draw over the corner of a slight dog leg left. I didn’t know 15-20 yards from the fairways was nasty weeds.

I also 4 putted and 3 putted a few times. I flubbed like two chips. Too long of backswing.

I was happy with my ball striking. Probably B-.

Found a bit of something on the range before the round. I’m starting to actually feel my right arm position better with what I am working on. I striped some irons today.

Shot in 88 in the second round of the tournament this weekend.

I figured out I was just compensating with my swing by aiming way too far right. I figured that out when I hit a pretty solid wet shot and it just look like it went way right. So I drop the wedge down along my toe line and took a look and I was aimed way right.

So, I spent the rest around really focusing on where I’m aiming which then cause some issues but then I started to hit the ball a little bit better towards the back nine.

Short game and putting were rusty. Way too many three parts.

Played Met Open qualifier today at Nassau Country Club. I generally hit it really well and my putting left rather a lot to be desired at least on the front nine. Hole by hole follows for those with nothing better to do:

Hole 1 - 400 - Good drive up the right - wedge to about 25 feet, 2 putts, par - E

Hole 2 - 359 - 3 wood to play short of a fairway bunker. Good tee shot. Gap wedge in, pulled it and came up a little short about 35 feet away. Putt 1 missed short and about 5 feet left. Missed the next one, bogey = +1

Hole 3 - 175 - 6 iron a little by the hole maybe 25 feet again, 2 putts, par - +1

Hole 4 - 591 - driver in the right rough, 4 iron down to about 60 yards short (I am somewhat skeptical of the yardage at this point). 58* about 10 feet short of the green, putt to about 6 feet, missed it. Bogey +2

Hole 5 - 155 - greenkeeper pretty much missed the green left here. Up on a shelf in the back. Only people who hit it close there were the ones that missed their target 25 feet left. I missed it about 35 feet short and right and had a ridge to putt up. Hit a decent speed this time, but did not read the about 5 feet of break to the left once up on the top bit. Then missed another one from about 5 feet. Bogey +3

Hole 6 - 440 - Drive in the right rough. 183 to the hole uphill, bit of a flyer lie, so hit a 6 iron, which came out really nicely and wound up on the green about 30 feet away. Again I got the speed right, but it broke about 3 feet left that I didn't see. Made the next one. Par +3

Hole 7 - 430 - Drive in the fairway. 158 in with flag at the back of the green. A groove (or 4) low with an 8 iron, landed on and went over. Hit a really good chip to a foot. Par +3

Hole 8 - 410 - this is a bit of an odd hole. It's only 410, but you can't hit it more than about 240 off the tee. There's a lake down there. 2 iron went about 239. Left me 174 flag. Choke down on a 6 and hit it 5 feet right of the flag and it flew about 177 and got a hard bounce. Really tight lie on the next tee box and fringe grass all the way. I couldn't see myself chipping it so putted up to about 8 feet and missed it. Bogey +4

Hole 9 - 305 - 2 iron in the right semi in a deep divot. I pity anyone else who hit it where I did, because it was more like the grand canyon when I was done in there. Came up short and right on the fringe (again). Same issue again - not in my wheelhouse to chip that. Putt snagged up in the fringe and got on the green (briefly) and came back to the front fringe. Two putts from there. Bogey +5

Hole 10 - 152 flag - in between clubs again, choke down 8 and missed it a little right. Kicked onto fringeish grass, but longer than the other holes, so I chipped it. To about 15 feet. 2 putts. Bogey +6.

So I'm 6 over after 10. Not good by any stretch, but I felt like I hadn't really hit many bad long game shots. A few squirrelly ones and a few slight misjudgements, but nothing atrocious. Keep plodding along.

Hole 11 - 440 - Good drive, good 6 iron to 20 feet. 2 putts, par +6

Hole 12 - 450 - Drive a little right, hot looking lie from 183. 7 iron to about 5 feet. Birdie. +5

Hole 13 - 390 - Good drive (my best of the day I think). 100 flag. 91 front edge. Carry 99. Total 91. Spun it back from my pitchmark about 5 feet from the hole to the front fringe. Two putts. Par. +5

Hole 14 - 390 - Drive a little left, flicked a tree and kicked it back right. 136, wedge that went about 138 in the air and 150 on the ground. Left my putt from the back edge about 8 feet short and made that for a 4. +5

Hole 15 - 562 - Drive a little right, 4 iron into the left rough about 108 from the flag. Gap wedge to about 5 feet and holed it for another birdie. +4

Hole 16 - 170 - Pin cut similarly to the 5th. 7 iron about 20 feet right of the flag. Shaved the edge with my putt and tapped in. Par +4

Hole 17 - 410 - Tight fairway. Bunker left and bunker right. Not sure how far they both were. Aimed right edge of the left one, cut it about 5 yards, but the bounce fixed that and it went in the left trap fairly close to the lip. 120 flag, PW opened up a little and perfect strike. Wound up about 18 feet away. I had no idea what the putt was going to do, but I thought it looked a little left to right and it was definitely downhill. Started the putt about a hole left and it went right in the middle. Birdie. +3

Hole 18 - 390 - Drive a little right, had 115 in, gap wedge to 20 feet. Figured I had to make it to have any chance. Hit a good putt, but it turned hard left at the end (something else I just didn't see) and left me with a tap in for a 4. +3

So +6 for 10 holes and -3 for 8 holes. Really not a whole lot of difference in shot quality between the two. I was just hitting them the right distance after 10 and was coming up short or long a lot on the first 10. The greens were an absolute mystery to me. They were very grainy, which I'm not at all used to and the color changes on the green messed with my eyes so much I couldn't see what they were doing. I used aimpoint some and that helped a little, but I'm not well enough trained to tell well enough and there seemed to be a lot of putts that were straight until the last bit and then they turned hard and I couldn't be checking every five feet of a 35 foot putt. Upshot of it all is I'm very pleased with how I played. My score was about as high as it realistically could have been until the birdies I made coming in. If it had been a course I knew well, I think I could have been breaking into the 60s. Projected cut is currently even. There are 19 people better than me from the first wave and it's 13 and ties, so no Met Open for me again. It's the only one of the big 3 Met events I've not played in. One day hopefully.

Played in the Rhode Island CC Senior Member guest, my partner and I won the tournament. 2-day Stableford format, we ended with 104 points, won by 7. Points include 2 holes on each 9, where both players score count, can make up some points if you both play well on those holes.  @DaveP043has played a similar format (I played with Dann from RICC).

Played 5 more single day tournaments over the past 6 weeks. Scores have only been good enough to occasionally finsh in a tie for 5th or 4th place in my flight.  77-82 gross scores with typically a 5 playing handicap. The old farts I play with are good.

It is hard to stay sharp over the course of 5 hours and I have given up shots down the stretch. Only have a few events left. City of Livonia Championship over Labor Day and our club;s Tournament of Champions later in September. It would be nice to play well in both of those to finish out the season.

My friend and I finished 2nd in the net division of a 36 hole two person team event at Neshanic yesterday. It was a really cool event - we played all three nines at the 27-hole course plus the 9-hole executive learning course.

Each nine was a different format. We started the day on Meadow playing Pinehurst, a scramble on Ridge, alternate shot on the Academy course, and finished up playing better ball on Lake.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
    • I have access to far more data (including surveys and polls) than you do with your anecdotes. I mean this as plainly and literally as possible: you’ve demonstrated that you do not. They would, one way or the other.
