Some of my favourites are the names of famous people used to describe golf shots:-

An " Yassar Arafat" = Short, ugly and in the sand

An "Adolf Hitler"  = Two shots in the bunker

A "Princess Grace" = Should have used a driver

A "Princess Diana" = Shouldn't have used a driver

A "Kate Hudson" = A little short, otherwise perfect.

And for putting.......

A "Rock Hudson" = Looked straight, but wasn't

A "Robbie Williams" = Looks bent, but was straight

An "Elton John" = A big bender that lips the rim.

A "Mick Jagger" = A big lip out

"You can talk to a fade but a hook won't listen." (Trevino) "Oh, since you hook the ball you will never be any good at golf." (My best friend when I first started playing...and it appears he was correct) "Take 2 weeks off and then quit the game altogether." (? I heard it in the Bobby Jones movie but mistakenly thought it applied to somebody else)

I would tend to disagree with these two, provided that it's a controlled big draw. On a wide open course you can tear the thing to piece hitting big, long hooks all day. Tree-lined courses require more accurate shots, but otherwise I will usually hit a large draw (15-20 yards) for two reasons:

1) I know it's going to turn from right to left 100% of the time

2) I can consistently hit it and know how to aim it

On topic, my favorite saying is "Better lucky than good!"

Some more of my favs that haven't been mentioned:

Nice lay-up (after any shank/flub/etc)

Good spot to come in from

No pressure (putts to win or cancel a skin, tester for par, etc)

Thin to win

I was about to say. Erik got me saying that now.

If I hit the fairway, "Hey diddle diddle, hit it down the middle".

If I leave a putt short, it either has lace on it or I'm Alice

If I putt and I'm still away, it's still a "U za".   U za still away.

My dad always says, "Hit it Alice" when he hits a  putt that comes up short.

I like yelling FORE super loud after someone tops a driver.

You would :-P

Everything you think of after the top of your backswing to add yards will cost yards.

Whenever I take a provisional that is a good shot (which is most of the time): I need to remember the old Chinese proverb - hit second shot first.

    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
