Shot an 80, hacking it around, throw in a few shanks and some 25-30 mph winds. Luckily my short game and putting was solid on the front nine and I took advantage of some birdie opportunities.

I managed to get out with @NatalieB today (she shot 47 after starting par, par, bogey, par, bogey, bogey): http://www.gamegolf.com/player/iacas/round/784305 . I didn't hit as many greens but, as usual, the misses weren't too bad.

@mvmac On hole #12 it looks like you hit your gap wedge out of the water.  Did you edit it that way so you could see your 1st shot?

Yes I wanted to do it that way to show the first shot.

The way I do it I wouldn't be able to see all of my first shot, the flight would be just to where I tap my next club.  Nice eagle on # 13

Yeah that's how I went about it on the 2nd hole, where I also hit it in the water. Obviously my 5-iron going 101 yards isn't an accurate depiction of the shot so I changed how I did it for the 12th hole. The easiest solution is not to hit it in the water anymore :-)

I'm not sure what the "correct" way is...how do others go about this?

Rough night putting. First three greens were running about a 9. The last 6 were still dormant and a solid 12 on the stimp. Above the hole was death. And they were rock hard as well. Was difficult to keep it below the hole.

Hope we get more grass growing before next week.

Ball striking was okay. Turn left, turn left and when I think I've turned left...turn some more!

Pretty typical but pretty boring round. Hit a reasonable number of greens. Had long putts on almost all of them. Made a whopping one birdie and one bogey. Irons were a club short or so today as it was about 45° with some wind out of the north mostly.

Good score but didn't hit that great. Struggling a bit with the driver, the solid drives are veering left and the ones that find the fairway are off the heel. Hit some good iron shots and made some solid short putts.

Greens were sanded and slow so it was hard to hit the putts hard enough. Hit the ball ok, scored like crap.

Hit the ball like poo with the irons, but you wouldn't know it looking at that.

Not a bad round for still working on my swing. A lot of very good shots. 50% FIR is pretty solid for me. Nothing was way off course. Yea, I was happy with the long game. I was disappointed with the short game. I need a good practice session at the short game area to tighten this up.

First "real" round using Game Golf, and first "real" round of the year.  I shot a 98, but actually hit the ball OK (for me)....the short game was atrocious.  Not unexpected - I haven't practiced all winter.  Looking forward to getting back out soon, after a (hopefully) good week of practice.

First official league round of the year. Shot 36 on the front. 2 birdies, 2 bogeys, 8/9 greens. Missed a 5 footer on #9 for a 35. Felt a 1 and it was a 2.

Swing thought was straightening the left leg to start the downswing. The whole swing felt about 80% speed. Will continue this until I get more range time in and get comfortable with it.

Got to play with my son and a new guy from work. Had a great time.

69 at Lawrence Park GC. Hit the ball badly, but "well enough" when I had to. If you don't believe me…

Hole 1: Heel cut driver, thin wedge to 18 feet or so, made the putt for a birdie.

Hole 2: Heeled 3W, LW decent, made the short putt for birdie. 54 watch! :-)

Hole 3: Decent drive, decent (didn't draw) 3W, pitch and two putts for par.

Hole 4: Pulled driver, thin/heeled 8I, good pitch, good putt for par.

Hole 5: Heeled driver, toed 8I off the chrome, putted past the hole from well off the green, made the long come-backer for par.

Hole 6: Heel cut 3W, pitch ran out long, two putted bogey.

Hole 7: Good driver, heel thin iron, good pitch, putt par.

Hole 8: Good driver, thinned 3W (off a downslope so I'll take it), decent LW, putt for birdie.

Hole 9: Thin 7I, nearly made long putt for birdie.

Hole 10: Heel cut into the trees, thinned it just over a bunker short of the green, two putt par.

Hole 11: Decent drive, toed 8I to green, two putt par.

Hole 12: Thinned iron onto the green (when I say thinned I mean I didn't hit the ground, but the ball still goes in the air, it's not like I'm topping these, but they still feel like shit), two putt par.

Hole 13: Good driver, decent 3W, nearly holed LW pitch, birdie.

Hole 14: Thinned heel onto the front middle of the green. Made long putt for birdie.

Hole 15: Driver into the right trees/heeled, high hybrid over trees to edge of fairway/rough, chunked PW that ran out a little, two putt par.

Hole 16: Driver okay, 7I thinned but rolled a bit, two putts.

Hole 17: 3W okay, thin/toe/chrome 8I well short, pitch ran out long, two putts bogey.

Hole 18: Driver hit a tree right (heeled, you got it!), PW punched okay, two putts for par.

Most holes I hit a lousy shot. Or two. But it was good enough to get on or very very near the green. I had a better day putting than I deserved, particularly on the greens that were bumpy and still not super smooth and fast, but still… it would have been 72 or 73 with a more "normal" day putting.

I find it really interesting reading the good golfers comments.  In particular, reading how they felt they were not hitting it very well but they still score low.  Very interesting.

Made good fairly good contact, for me, bad putting day.

I've been fighting a slice and revisited @mvmac's post:

Spent some time yesterday on the range working on a few of the tips from that post.  The one that helped me the most was making a big turn.  With the driver I'm making what feels like a humongous turn, it's probably only about 90 degrees but it feels big.  Also, I've slowed down the swing for now as I work on this and a couple of other pieces.  I was happy not to have any slices on this round, one slight fade was all.

9 holes yesterday, didn't hit the ball great but missed it in the right places and chipped one in.

http://www.gamegolf.com/player/mvmac83/round/802563

Hit it pretty good today, some loose shots on 13 and 14 but overall things are moving in the right direction. My distance control with my partial wedge shots is improving as I'm starting to play on a consistent basis, hit a lot of solid 100-80 yards wedges.

Played in a Palmetto Amateur Golf Tour event yesterday.

Shot 75 came in third. Won some skin money with two birdies.

Okay off the tee with Driver. No Lefts.

Irons not so much, had a bit of the lefts but still playable to get up and down.

Chipping and Pitching were very good for me. The guy that runs this site knows his stuff about the short game. Use his resources if you haven't already.

Putting....sigh....Long putting was good minus one 3 putt hole. Putts inside 6 feet not so much. In my defense, I kept on leaving myself above the hole with nasty side hill putts. No excuse though, still needed to make 2-3 more of those.

70 on a par 58 exec course. Started off great by the back 9 it turned kind of average. Great day!

    • Going to a Friendsgiving tomorrow and I am bringing a no-bake cheesecake. I make the crust too big, but I think it turned out good. The filling is really good.
    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
