What is your old "go to" club for confidence and consistency?  Mine has been my 22* 4H lately.  Its seems to work out well from the tee to the rough no matter how poorly I may hitting everything else in my bag.  How about you guys?

I seem to always grab the 6 iron when the ball is not where it's supposed to be. The others just seem to make things worse.

Everytime I am in a bad situation (weird lie, ball way up/down from my feet, etc...) I go for my 6 iron (or lower if I am close to the green). I prefer to lay up being confident I'll hit my shot with my 6 iron then trying to go for the green and not being confident about it.

It might be because everytime I practice, I do my warm-up with my 6 iron, so the 6 iron is the club I hit the most at the range.

I don't really have one.  I guess it depends on the situation.  Or maybe because I hit all of my clubs bad equally...

My Mizzy 5 iron is rock solid.    Launches high and surprisingly long - def my go to layup club.

Somewhat in the same boat.  While there are clubs that I hit more consistently than others, none are so consistent that I can guarantee a good shot.  That is why I tend to just hit driver from the tee.  It is so much more satisfying to hit a driver O.B. than to hit a hybrid or iron O.B.

4h and 56*. My 56* is money off the tee and if I'm in close I can always count on topping my hybrid a consistent 15 yards. :-P

What day of the week is it? I find that when I start hitting a club well, I subconsciously get greedy for distance, then start hitting it badly again. I was hitting my three wood off the deck farther than my driver off the tee, which didn't worry me too much, because I figured I just needed to adjust the launch angle of my drives somehow, but then, insidiously, overswinging crept into the picture and now I might use my three wood for gardening, because I have so much practice digging with it, or I might start saving the pelts I take out of the fairway with it to redo my lawn....

Whichever club fits the particular shot?

If I'm on the tee, it's usually a driver.  On the green, often times its my putter.  The rest of the shots, it varies between my 3 wood and my lob wedge. :-P

Lol, right. I don't ever get to my ball and think oh no I am 185 out and I can't hit club x so I will use old trusty. It is what it is. Honestly I don't find any clubs more difficult to hit than others. The difference is the severity of the miss.

My old Callaway Warbird 5 Wood, good shots or bad, I knew when playing it when I was at the top of my form or way off. And sometimes hitting balls with it at the range would get my swing groove back in no time.

Golf kept me close to my father during the four years in the 1960's that I worked for him on weekends as his caddy. I didn't play then, but later did start playing once he insisted "it was time". It's been a joy ever since.

Hmm, the longest iron that I feel like I can hit from just about anywhere is a 5.  I'm pretty confident with a driver now a days too.  So either a 5 iron or driver would be my choice I guess.

I couldn't agree more.   My club choice is based solely on what the shot at hand dictates.

      While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).

      Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.

Most humans/men would not grope a woman like Phil is accused of doing (I think he absolutely did). That is scum. I mean what % of men do you think would do that? Seriously??
