  1. 1. Should I book the 4th spot with 3 golfers I don't know?

    • Yes, they likely won't mind

    • No, that's rude to knowingly insert yourself into a 3-some

I'm looking to golf this weekend, can't find anybody to go with so on my own. There's an 8a tee time on GolfNow but it's for only 1 person, which I assume means they already have a 3-some scheduled for that slot.

What's the ruling on me booking that 4th spot? Is that no big deal or do you think the 3-some would be pissed that a 4th random person is joining their group?

Well if it's busy they will likely be joined by a random solo that day anyway. At least in this case you get an am tee time if that's what you desire.

Unless you would rather not be paired up, go ahead and book it.  It's no different than calling the course and having them fit you in as a single.

Totally agree, plus, you might make new golf buddies that like to play the same course and at the same time you like to!

I do that regularly. I don't mind paying with different people and believe me, I've met different people. I usually have a good time. Go for it.

Make your tee time. I play golf with folks I have never met before on quite a few occasions. It's no big deal. You may be the better player of the group, or you may not. Who cares? Golfers who take exception to golfers with less game than they have, have forgotten when they not so good themselves.

Absolutely yes. If they mind, tell them the five wise elders (and one 'other') at TST said you could. As one comment here says no different than getting paired up with folks at the golf course. Assumption is that YOU are ok with playing with three people you have never met. Have fun.

I agree with @GolfLug .

BTW, you can make that 5 wise elders, and 2 others now.... :-P

Agree with all.  Like others already said, they're likely going to get a walk on 4th anyway, so it's just nice that the course allows you to actually book it.

So few courses around here allow you to make tee times for a single, and it's really annoying.  Consider yourself lucky.

I'm heading out tomorrow as a single as well!  (I had a partner, but as of now, it looks like he's bailed on me :()

Yes book it. Example:  Yesterday I walked on at a local southern NH course, Scottish Highlands.  I was paired with three other guys.  On the second hole, I asked where they were from.  One of the guys, another walk on, said Woburn.  "I'm from Woburn too", I said.  He took a long look at me and said, "Soccer coach?  You coached my son in soccer."  I did!  We walked 18 and had a great time.

You will be surprised at how small a world it is.  You may know the other guys or know someone they know.

My experience with golf now is that even when the app says room for one, it doesn't always mean you end up playing with people. Could be because of the less busy courses here though. Either way I voted go for it. I have never had a bad experience with 3 others that know each other, friendliness wise. I been paired up with 3 absolutely horrible players though...

Always go for it. If a slot is available take it. If the people you get paired with it don't like it. Tough. Golf is always fun with others. Even the a holes of the world can't ruin it.

When your snag that last spot on golfnow, especially if it's an early time on a weekend, you'll almost certainly be paired up with the other 3.  Not a bad deal at all.  I did it two weekends ago.  It was only 2 of us, though.  We had a great time and neither of us had to play alone.

What my wife and I do:  She's a 6th year player and still not keen on playing with others.  We'll grab that 2-spot time on golfnow and show up an hour early and get out ahead of the other two.  Works out great because we usually book the 'hot tee time' noon-ish or even a bit later.  Always works out fine for us using this strategy.

The problem is likely with how the course organizes their GolfNow tee times. I know that one local course doesn't like GolfNow very much (they sell their tee times for $10 apiece w/ cart on the site, as opposed to $25 for 18 w/ a cart if you book through the course) and so usually just gives a couple limited tee times to the site to increase exposure. Maybe this is similar?

    • I usually like to fix the face, first, as the path is most often the compensation for the open face rather than the other way around. If you could get some good down-the-line and face-on video in slow motion, it'd go a long way toward helping. It's tough to see the face and I think the face-on view would show that you're not turning as much as you could/should.
    • Day 86 (26 Jul 25) - Down at the beach place, had kept the clubs with me after playing yesterday.  Spent time this afternoon checking them over and brushing grooves on the wedges and irons.  Spent a few minutes working thru the swing process…working in slo mo through backswing and proper weight shift.
    • . I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years, 1 year consistently  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 My typical ball flight is: fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: inconsistent ball strike   I caught the bug about a year ago and have been playing roughly once a week. Have been getting better with my short game and putting but my ball striking from tee and fairway lets me down. Had my first lesson last month which identified an over the top swing compensated by an open club face. Have been trying everything to get on plane over the last month. Have found that using a bend and press into my left leg as the trigger for my downswing coupled with finding the turn and rotation in both my arms to release the club properly has helped my get nearer to the correct plane. Video below is where I am with it currently. Haven’t taken this new swing to the course yet! Any comments or suggestions are welcome  Videos:  I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year properly  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 av score
    • That's always been the deal. You put in the work hyper focused on ONE or at most two things, so that you don't have to think about anything except a single feel or the target or something on the course.
    • Blind squirrel finds a nut and putted well. no, I decided to play a round being athletic rather than paralyzing myself with swing thoughts. I have no clue if I was doing what I worked on. It was the last day and I was tired of freezing at the top of the swing not know if one of four outcomes were going to happen.
