While I was putting on the 5th green which is near a road, a guy in a passing car screams ..........."YOU SUCK".

In all honesty, it made me laugh because the first thought that came to mind is that guy is probably a complete hacker that I would thoroughly beat and win every dollar he had 10 out of 10 times if he played against me even up.  LOL

...........who in the heck does that anyway?   Hahaha

Probably some "speed golfer" who saw your foursome spend more than a half minute on the green, and (God forbid) even remove the pin to putt! :-O

Yeah that used to happen daily at the club I belonged to just as the high school kids were getting out of school and driving by. It's not like they were wrong though. They were just yelling out what I already knew. ;-)

A few years ago I was playing a public course in Northern California - surrounded by thick redwood trees and dense forest.  I forget what hole it was - but at the top of my backswing somebody in the woods let go with an airhorn, lol.  This happened on every swing we made on that hole - a loud airhorn blast right at the top of the backswing.  I assume it was kids . .or ninjas . .but ninjas are known for being quiet so I'm going with kids.

This happened on a par 3 tee at my league course.  It is right next to the road.  I was teeing off.  A pickup truck came by and beeped.  I ignored that thinking they had got it out of their system.  At mid backswing they yelled "fore"!  Pushed the shot right.  My group said I could re-tee, but I just took my medicine.  I should have backed off.

At the 4A northern regional tournament this year there was someone who kept circling the course in a pickup, yelling "FOUR!" and attempting to distract people with the truck. I just replied every time with, "Five!" until a rules official got his license plate number and called in a noise complaint. The guy stopped pretty quick then.

This thread reminded me of something that happened several years ago.

There is a little rinky dink 9 hole course near my house that almost no self respecting golfer would even play. The conditions are absolutely awful.

One day when the course I played was closed I decided to go play there (and at least get in a little practice).

Well halfway through my round this moron started driving around the gravel road that surrounds the course (multiple times) in an ugly green van and blowing the horn all of the way around the course.

When I got to the club house I was fairly disgusted and I asked the woman behind the counter, who I knew was the course owner's daughter, who in the hell that idiot was that was driving around the course blowing his horn the whole way around?

She said "Oh that's my dad just showing some of his friends the course." :bugout:

Once while I was working at the course helping out someone round up people from a bachelor party to get on their chartered bus it happened. I think golf usually has a more well-mannered clientele than that.

Maybe I'm strange because whenever I play near a busy street I hope somebody would do it, but it never happens, I would never but I think it's pretty damn funny, especially if the timing was right.

I do suck though so I'm due.

This only happened to be because it was true. I hit an errant ball into the street. A runner came up a couple minutes later, tossed a ball back over the fence and told me to go to the driving range.

Last week, thanks to my new high drives, my errant Cobra shot sliced over the protective barrier nets (over 100 feet high) and went into the street. I yelled "fore left" quite a few times as there were lots of runners and cyclist on the road. The ball bounced in the middle of the road and landed inside the property line of a nearby private school for rich kids. The street completely stopped moving everyone stopped in their tracks with horrified looks on their faces. . .

This provoked me to put the Cobra away and use my steel shafted Ping again. I lost only 10-20 yards, but feel much more comfortable about the safety of pedestrians around the course. Probably should get another lesson with Mike before using it again.

    • Day 132: 5/7/24 Full Speed Spectrum Training session 8/24. 7th training program overall.    Another slow session but 4 mph faster than my last session, which was my slowest ever. Going to the doctor on Friday to check on pulled neck muscle.
    • Day 26: Did full swing practice after work. First 15 balls were working on top of the backswing feel, and then tried to incorporate transition feel into the next 15 balls. A's, although this will be my last season of being a fan as they leave for Las Vegas (by way of Sacramento for a few seasons). Hard to see myself rooting for the Giants, but if that's the only MLB in the Bay Area, I guess I might get on board.
    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
