Fast forward to 10:40 in the video. Brian Taaffe hit something like 280 yards with his 4i. He got a near green on a 293 yard par 3.

OMG. Insane. If I swung that hard I'd fall down. Amazing.

I don't like to have to choke down and swing 3/4 so I just go with a 5 iron from there...but I accidentally voted 180-200...haha.

I really hit it 190, but have replaced it with a hybrid which has really helped my scores...lots of 185-210yd par threes on my home course.

280, though...that's a poke.

Wow, that's only 60 yards away from my driver distance.  Someday I'll get it out that far. :-D

My old set of clubs stopped at a 6i.  My newer set goes down to a 4i but I took it out because I have no business hitting it.

I use a 4H 185 off a tee.

I want to know how hard the wind was blowing.

That's 60 yards LONGER than my driver.

The only way I could hit my 4 iron a total of 280 yards is if I hit my driver at least 200 yards first !!!!!!!!!!

I hit my 4 iron around 225, maybe 230. I have hit it almost 300 yards before (on a downhill hole), and I've cracked 250 with it off the tee once or twice. 280 without downhill? No way.

I am curious how strong that wind was though.

Debbie downer here: that was with a massive helping wind and based on the distance from the ball to the center of the green after they get close - remember 293 is to the center of the green - I'd say that was more like 260-265 4 iron. Still massively long, but not what they claimed. Off the tee with that wind, I could definitely get into the 220-250 category.

Ok....who the heck voted for 250-300?

Yah if I choke down on it :) A moderator can change mine to 205. I was messing with Lihu.

I no longer carry a 2i thru 6i and have replaced each of them with hybrids and it was the best thing I have done to revitalize an aging swing.  I can get 175+ from my 4h a very high % of the time.

Is that 280, straight?

I can get there, but only if you let me hit it 2 times......

Actual carry with a 4-iron (which I no longer have in the bag) is about 190. :8)

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
