Fairly certain the four of you are "in."  Early September should be a prime part of the year for us, too.

Mike and I talked about going to 8 players, but that might be too much of a stretch since they have to be single digits (preferably on the lower end of that) and so on.

But, feel free occasionally to drop a name for consideration here. Constantine is on the radar, but has to do well here this summer, for example.

I've just sent a PM to a bunch of members who have the blue "candidate" badge.

It will let us get to know them a bit.

Hi! I'm JetFan1983! Nice to meet you!! Wow, this website's really cool! The admin is kind of mean, but other than that, cool place!

Yea, I'll try not to suck this season and hopefully post some good scores. You guys will certainly hear about them if and when they happen.

Also, it'd be nice to hit up Erie at some point this summer.

Hey, Fr0sty checking in. Been here about 5 years if my profile is to be believed. I spend most of my time lurking around the rules forum.

I'm just coming out of hibernation here in Chicagoland and will play my first round of the season on Saturday. I'll have my GameGolf device on my hip so y'all can see what kind of show I manage to put on after nearly 6 months off.

I won't know if I can actually swing this schedule wise and budget wise until early summer but having a goal in mind is a great way to focus my practice this spring.

Very cool.

The east coast team has 2-3 open slots, so I expect to have some fierce competition for them between now and when we make our final selections in June/July.

I'm going to tag everyone again (copying and pasting from up above):

What I'd like to see everyone do now…

Tell us a bit about yourself. Share a picture, perhaps. Tell us how old you are (no need to be super specific), tell us about your game, etc.

As you guys know part of the Newport Cup will be choosing teammates that are good guys and all that, so let's start to get to know one another here. Let's talk.

My name is Matt Dougherty. I am 30 years old since last July. I live in Dayton, Ohio, but I am originally from Canton, Ohio. I have lived in Ohio my whole life. I went to college at The Ohio State University and got a degree in Civil Engineering, Go Buckeyes!  I currently work as a Traffic Engineering for the City of Dayton.

I started playing golf right before high school, probably in 1997 or 1998. My dad has been an avid golfer for years and brought me into the game. I started to get serious when I wanted to join my high school golf team. I was able to make it one year on the JV squad. Besides golf I played soccer on the JV squad for my high school for two years.

I didn't really play much golf during college, just sparingly when I made a trip back up to Canton to visit my family. I started to pick the game back up after joining a golf league at work. That lead me to this forum because I wanted to get better. After trying to self help my swing through some of the helpful posts from Erik and others on this forum, Erik finally convinced me to take a trip up to Erie for a golf lesson.

I would classify my game as a power type game. I hit the ball a long way off the tee and have a pretty good iron game. I am a pretty decent putter, but need to work on my inside 5' putting. My short game is a huge weakness right now, and is something I am going to work on a lot in the coming weeks. By September I should be in top shape for the Newport Cup. I am hoping to end the year with a sub 4 handicap.

Here is a picture of myself from a year and a half ago.  At this moment I am owning up to a bet I made with a friend. The end result was me trying the Atomic Wing challenge at Quaker Steak. I am proud I got through one wing before I was taken down. I would not recommend anyone try this challenge. ;)

My name is Jamieson Weiss. I'm 22. I live in Norwich, CT. I'm originally from eastern MA. I went to the University of Delaware and got a degree in mechanical engineering. Go Blue Hens! I currently work as a mechanical engineer for a giant defense contractor. I started playing golf when I was a kid, but really started to put work into it in 8th grade when I realized I wasn't that good at all the other sports. My dad had been an avid golfer for years and brought me into the game. I started to get serious when I wanted to make my high school team. I was able to make it onto the JV squad for two years before moving up to varsity for junior and senior years. Besides golf I played rugby for two years and tennis for one year in high school. I played a lot of golf my freshman and sophomore years of college, but when I got too old to get junior rates and my schedule precluded me from playing on the club team, I struggled a bit my last two years. I was lead to this forum around 2008 when I was looking for reviews of the Mizuno MP-57 irons and Scotty Cameron Studio Select putter. I stuck around for the instruction stuff. I've taken trips out to Erie the past few years. I would classify my game as relying heavily on ballstriking and avoiding hazards. I'm not really a power player, my putting is up and down, and I'm not great around the greens when I don't have the time to practice my short game a lot. But I can generally get the ball from tee to green without blowing up. I'm just a generally steady player when I'm going good. This picture of me is from a few months ago. I listen to this basketball show called The Starters. One of the hosts, Leigh Ellis, is a big fan of TJ Maxx, so they launched a campaign (#TakeItToTheMaxx) for TJ Maxx to sponsor him. A bunch of listeners stood in front of stores and took pictures of themselves and Ellis got a box of free stuff. So there's that. (P.S. thank you to @saevel25 for the format of this post! :-))

Well, I don't really qualify at the moment as I am about 3 or maybe 4 shots shy of the HCP ceiling, but the season is still young...

Full name is Vishal Shah but go by 'V' amongst friends. Graduated from University of Massachusetts in 1999 with an Engineering graduate degree. Currently run the engineering department for a Diesel Engines Fuel systems manufacturing company down here in the Virginia Beach area. I am 40 years old and hit a golf ball for the first time about 10 years ago. Only in the last 2 years have I played it with any serious interest when it comes to scores. Before that I have paid little attention to my scoring, treating golf as nothing more than a series of experiment in cause and effect of what makes the ball fly straight. Getting on this site and communicating with a lot of you has effected a great change in my approach to the game.

Self taught swing that I start with an extremely hooded clubface (all clubs except very short chips and putter) because of a broken forearm as a teenager. Have received great help from Erik and Dave in the last few months with my herky-jerky swing and even through the lull of winter I have managed to drop shots. Considering current state of play I am hoping to drop below 9 by June (below 8 would be great but being realistic) with small hopes of making the team. Highest score of the last 5 rounds is 84 (with a low of 80 today) so it is looking good so far.

I have a small frame (5' 7" with shoes on) and there is nothing remarkable about my game or me other then my weird set up and as evident form the selfie from this morning below, drop dead good looks :-P . I mostly rely on keeping ball in play by plodding around the course all day.  Well, if I absolutely had to pick, although my putting is very pedestrian, I do fairly well with half wedges, and inside in comparison.

Each year I do a buddies trip/tournament down in MB/Pinehurst area and another 1 or 2 short trips out of state. This year in addition to a 4 day PH trip/tournament, going up to play Erin Hills, WI in August (with @cipher , @Jakester23, and @99prblms). Last year I really enjoyed coming out to Eerie to play at WW where I met some of you on the team.

Like many of you, if I somehow miraculously make it, the Newport Cup trip would of course be the crowning jewel of my year so I intend to try like hell. A challenge of this nature is a lot better than some other forms of mid life crisis fallouts. Fore...!

My name is Nathan McPherson and I am 34 years old.  I grew up in Minneapolis, MN and at the age of 30 I moved to to Milwaukee, WI.  I went to a small college named North Central University in downtown Minneapolis, where I graduated with a degree in Business.  I work in organized...I mean...I work in the family business where my father and I own an auto body shop, a loyalty rewards company and we own some commercial property.  I have been married 12 years and have two kids.

I started playing golf around ten.  I played once a week or so up until high school.  I did not play much through high school and pretty much stopped playing for the most part through college until about the age of 30.  At that time when I had moved to Milwaukee, I decided I would put all the effort I could into trying to see how I could improve my game.  I was probably about a 15-18 handicap at that time.

After finding this site and being frustrated with the shanks, I started working with evolvr a few years ago.  Since then I have had the opportunity to work with @iacas (also Dave and Mike) a couple times in person, and all of this has really started to help the consistency of my game and I feel I am getting close to a swing that is something that I can own and learn to shoot some good scores with.

I would not say I am a long hitter at all, but I have decent speed for my size.  My weaknesses are definitely in the woods and with the putter(starting putts on my line).  I was and will be working very hard on those clubs(more so the long ones).  I am also working to improve my green side bunker play.  My strengths are really in hitting iron shots.  Last year was really the first year I was able to hit long irons somewhat well.  I really enjoy hitting my wedges most though.  If I can hit it to a wedge or partial wedge distance, I will generally have a pretty good look at birdie.  I am getting pretty solid with them around the green as well.

My handicap will probably go up a bit this year with changing courses to a MUCH tougher track but I think in the long run it will help my game more.

I am mainly looking right now just to get and stay healthy after an early season injury so I can enjoy some golf this year and actually make it to the Newport Cup.  I have really been looking forward to this opportunity and to also getting to meet some of the west coast guys I have not met yet.

My daughter actually took this picture of me with my little guy:
