$200 dollars went into the lake :) I am wondering if someone went to fish that out. I'll check on Ebay to see if a Rory long iron goes on sale.  I would say, great form on throwing the club. In control, just like his swing, smooth.

Aren't there alligators in those lakes? Yeah, I'll pass. Great throw though. And good attitude about it afterwards. "It felt really good at the time ... But I regret doing it now."

a few things that stand out to me after todays round...it took JB Holmes 5 hrs to complete his round today, wonder if he was placed on the clock any? he really seemed to be slower today then I recall him being in the past... Rory is down is Fla and I'm sure there are several teams down there for Spring Training that could use his services in the bullpen..man he threw that 3i a good ways in the H2O...and the 3some of the top 3 in the world were driving distances lights out today...very impressive

Yeah, and now he is on the apology train about not being a good role model. Makes me want to puke.

Rory had his 3iron on plane and down the line...he lead with his hips and came from the inside and finished high to produce a nice tight draw. I think the clubhead hit the water first and had just a fraction of topspin on it as the shaft quickly followed into the drink.

Rory gets a pass, as he should. Imagine if Tiger chucked his 3 iron into the water. The media would blast him for a year straight.

From Steve DiMeglio's USA Today story :

Quote:

"Felt good at the time," McIlroy said after 2-under-par 70 left him 8 shots out of the lead. "Look, I just let frustration get the better of me. It was heat of the moment, and I mean, if it had been any other club I probably wouldn't have but I didn't need a 3‑iron for the rest of the round, so I thought, why not?

" … Looking back at it, it isn't one of my proudest moments. … I wouldn't encourage anyone to do it; especially if there's kids watching at home. First of all, it's expensive, and second of all, you shouldn't do it."

And this

http://www.geoffshackelford.com/homepage/2015/3/7/entitlement-gone-awry-a-par-5-green-not-holding-second-shots.html

Quote:

Bubba Watson posting a 69 at Doral and then declaring he can't stand the course because it's too tough for him was weird, in a Bubba sort of way. ( Rex Hoggard with the Bubba-being-Bubba talk.)

Even more bizarre is 36-hole leader J.B. Holmes, 9-under-par through two rounds, criticizing the par-5 first green because he doesn't feel he can hold a second shot. At 606-yards, apparently the concept of laying up is foreign to J.B. (but not to some ofhis peers).

Brian Wacker with a PGA Tour report on the different views of Gil Hanse's redesigned first that played as the fourth easiest at Doral on Friday. Not easy enough though for J.B.

"It's pretty bad that you can hit two perfect shots and the ball can go in the water because of just a ridiculous green design that's really just terrible," said Holmes. "The shape of the green is fine, but it's not that wide anyways. And why you would put a giant hump in the middle of it to make a ball go in the water is ‑‑ it's stupid. Golf course is hard enough. You don't have to do that."

Mercifully, Adam Scott has a less entitled view than J.B.

"I think we often expect to hit a par 5 in two just because we can reach it. I'm not sure that's necessarily the right thought but you know, (course designer) Gil (Hanse) is certainly asking the question of you down the first if you want to have a go. Even with a wedge in there, it's a pretty tough shot."

So to recap, a player is 9-under through two rounds, the hole is averaging under par, it's 606 yards and the first is terrible because you might have to not go for it in two shots. You might have to ponder another way to the hole. Worse, it may not let you golf your ball exactly as you want to golf it. Terrible!

I'm really surprised that Scott is going with an Odyssey. He's a Titleist poster boy. I can't believe they let him go outside of their sphere of influence. It's better than him putting badly with their stuff if that's what it came down to, but still. I feel like Scott is the player most closely identified with Titleist.

I was actually thinking yesterday when they were showing him putting on the 6th, "Man, the new Scotty Camerons look just like those Odyssey putters" haha.

Adam Scott obviously doesn't have a 14 club contract.

Ping  (I think) is the only company that insists on this.

Adam Scott can use whatever putter he wants to.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I turn the tv on and catch 2 holes in one in 20 mins....NICE. DJ and JB

Yes that's correct although Callaway/Odyssey may have gotten more "strict" with this the last few years with the players they've signed.

14 club contracts are pretty rare. Zach Johnson, Steve Stricker and Webb Simpson are other Titleist players that come to mind that don't use a Scotty putter.

Is that a graphite shaft on Rory's 3i?  IF that indeed is his club.  If Rory uses graphite shaft in 3i, are all the iron sticks he uses also graphite shafted?

So on 17 green IIRC JB wants to put a new ball into play because he thinks the old one is damaged, asks Ryan Moore if that's ok, Moore says no, JB asks a referee and referee says go ahead.

Not that this happened to me a lot, but this is an old rule, I can honestly say that when asked by a playing competitor or opponent if he wants to put a new ball into play because he think the old one is damaged, I have never said no. Why would you?

What is to gain for JB if he were to replace an undamaged ball? Moore seems like a decent dude but why would he say no?

I understand that it is Moore's job to protect the field, but I can't see here why he would say no, comes off kinda douchey.

What am I missing here?
