It's been raining off and on for the last 2 weeks. I have managed to squeeze in four 9 hole rounds, but it has been sloppy. Light rain at this very moment. But sunny weather starting Sunday. Going to take a few days to dry out though.

I still have a little snow in my yard, but the rain tonight and tomorrow should get rid of most of it. The rain will stop by Sunday and the high will be 51°, but I have a feeling that the ground will be saturated.

On Monday it is supposed to be sunny and 61°, this might be my best chance to get in my first round of the year.

Two big events this weekend in Pittsburgh are the golf show and St. Patrick's Day parade, although it is supposed to rain on Saturday.

Drivers: Bag 1 - TM R11 (10.5°); Bag 2 - Ping G5 (9°),

Potato photo from my course today. The opened for play this weekend.

We've been getting 5-10ºC the last week and lots of sun. It's still early and we might yet see frost and snow, but it's a start. Very warm winter this year with very little rain or snow.

There's still snow left on the courses by me, and the ground is completely soaked. Might be at least another week before they open. I did hear a chorus of birds outside my living room window this morning.

OK now I'm hungry for both pulled pork and golf!  It was 37F here today.

You want quickie pulled pork? Use a pressure cooker. Just be sure to add a nice dose of liquid smoke and you can have moist pork in an hour or so. Yes, that fast. Recipe:

4-5 pound boston butt, quartered (freeze the bone for seasoning beans on another occasion)

cup of orange juice

small bottle of barbecue sauce of your choice

several good dashes of liquid smoke

Bring to pressure, then reduce heat to low while maintaining pressure. Let cook for 50 minutes. Remove from heat and allow pressure to subside naturally (could take 20 minutes or so). Pull and enjoy.

As for the weather, my yard has been a mudhole since November due to such a rainy winter, and I can't wait to be in Florida next month, on the golf course, with dry feet!

In the bag:
Lady Tiger Shark 5 Hybrid
Lady Tiger Shark 9 Iron
Adams a70S Hybrid Gap Wedge
Adams Lady Fairway 1007 Putter

Courses are opening mid April here. There's still a lot of snow on the ground despite about a week above freezing temperatures.

Its 83 according to my outdoor thermometer right now. Golfing this afternoon. You can golf where I live all year round but in Jan/Feb a nice day is only in the 50s so you have to pick and choose.

Driver - Ping G15 12 Degree Loft
3W - Ping G10
3 Hyrbrid - Ping G15
4-PW - Taylormade Burner 2.0
Putter - Ping Anser 2

Spring really has sprung.... I played nine holes today at a local course that is affectionately called, "The Ditch." The courses in Western Pennsylvania are very soft, with mud and plugged balls being the rule rather than the exception. The weather was sunny and in the low 40°'s, but the fairways were soggy.

There were a number of plugged balls on the course. I lost one ball, an eco-friendly Dixon golf ball ( https://www.dixongolf.com/home.php ), but found three other ones including a Titleist NXT-Tour, Bridgestone, and a Slazenger. SO, I was two under balls for the day. (Some of you might remember that it was Auric Goldfinger who played a Slazenger in the movie, "Goldfinger." Bond played a Penfold Hearts.)

It is supposed rain tomorrow, so our weekend of golf will probably be soppy, soggy, mucky, or any other saturated word you can think of.

Ah yes, it is springtime on the golf course. :-D

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
