Morgan Hoffman, I like his stance and swing. Looks very athletic, or maybe that's just because he looks athletic...I don't know.  Also ya'll may remember him on the 17th at the Waste Management tournament in AZ...

Hat would have been a great addition to today's outfit...

Good golf today.Always like this tournament, though these greens are atrocious this week. Matt Every is an enigma. So lackluster until he comes to this venue. Still think Stenson wins today.

Wow, Hoffmann out of bounds on 18. That will cost him quite some money.

Stenson is European's version of Jim Furyk. Even though he some wins on his resume, he is not a closer. He's had some chances in majors and couldn't close them out, such as last year's PGA where he had a lackluster back 9 at Valhalla. Just can never make the big putts when he needs them. Was liking his chances at Augusta, but after today, you have to wonder what his confidence would be like down the stretch at Augusta should he get in contention.

Oh for crying out loud.....

Stenson is one of the toughest players out there. And one of the most confident.

His confidence will be sky high if he is in contention.

He missed a difficult 20 footer on the 72nd, so he can't make putts?

He's is probably one of the best iron players in the game.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I noticed the V-series on TV but the 3-deep is a surprise. What an unusual top of the bag for a pro.

I doubt Stenson will get down on himself or lose confidence down the stretch at Augusta or the Dollar Store Open for that matter lol who knows he may have lost ambition to win and was happy with a Top 20 finish ala Greg Norman.

Since when is a comparison to a major winner and probable HoF'er a slight? It's not a perfect match and perhaps not intuitive but upon reflection, I think they're comparable.

Stenson peeved at official for slow-play warnings

“I thought we were here to play golf and not finish at 6 [p.m.],” said Stenson, who had two three-putts the first three rounds. “I know we have times to take into consideration. If one, two minutes on the broadcast is going to make or break it then I think we need to have some more leeway with it.”

Not doubting his iron play or his toughness. And I'm not saying he's a bad golfer by any stretch. He's in contention more times than not. But to get to that next level, he needs to close more tournaments out, especially against guys he should be able to beat out. For a guy of his talent he should have more than 5 PGA wins and no majors on his resume. Just like Jim Furyk should have a heck of a lot more than one major on his resume. The comparison between the two is they just haven't been able to get it done on Sunday when they're right up there battling for the lead. He didn't play great down the stretch yesterday. He bogeyed 15 and three putted 16. You can't do that when you're in the lead on a course that's gettable.

Or he could play faster.

So could Hoffman. Five course meal as he walked down the fairway, glove on, glove off......etc etc.....But Koch was commenting on Saturday about the "deliberateness" of Stenson. Wonder if the PGA gave him any advanced warnings that he'd better speed it up a notch.

Stenson used his 3w off the tee a lot so that might be why Every added the 3Deep to his bag.  I didn't see him tee off a lot so I'm curious how often he used it.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
