Just curious, what do the signs say? Do they threaten to kick you off the course or something? I would sneak them in anyway if I were so inclined, and I'll never buy movie theater candy either.

Well ... most of them simply say that it is illegal under state law. Some I've seen actually list the code section,

My course kindly reminds you that beer doesn't satisfy the course's stringent alcohol requirement, and to man up and bring some gin. I think that's what the sign means, anyway. [/quote]That's how I'd interpret that sign too! No beer! But hardstuff's ok. :-P

..................this is a BS feminist rant that offers plenty of accusations, but no detail.   I still call BS on this article.  It's made-up bullshit from beginning to end.   I'm not buying what they are trying to sell as a story.  This story is much like the many stories seen on a yahoo main page.   Most headlines are BS articles written to mislead to get a click.............nothing more.

I'm not sure I'd phrase it quite like that, but I think many people who look deeper into the article and thinks about it would come away with questions as to the integrity of it.

Man, that'd mean I'd never be left alone. B-)

I don't know. Every year I hear men making extremely inappropriate remarks about the cart girls. Rarely when dealing with them directly but I don't doubt it happens given what I've heard. I hear men in their 60's talking about subjecting the cart girls to violent porn type sex seconds after they drive away. Last year we had a wet monsoon season. I am first name friendly with all the employees at the home course. The young lady that runs the cart on Sat. told me more than one man commented about the color of her bra after getting stuck in a sudden rain on an otherwise hot day. She had to radio the clubhouse and have someone bring her a jacket. And this is a course played mostly by regulars, her dad plays men's league. I've heard guys I know are in men's league make comments about her and her sister, both work there.

I don't think there's any question that there are crass, rude, and filthy men and women in the world and some of then are certainly going to find their way onto a golf course.  And we can all give anecdotal evidence supporting or against the issue brought up by this article.

I would certainly believe, like any other sport that typically isn't co-ed, you're going to find men making comments, either directly to or about, women that they normally wouldn't say if they didn't feel as through they were in an environment where they wouldn't be condemned for making such comments.  Many of these individuals, when they're hanging with just men, feel as though they aren't going to get called out for making an indiscreet or chauvinistic comment, and, a good portion of the time, they'd be right.  And, because they're not called out on it, I believe they continue to do it.  I've seen it before when it comes to race.

Most people would probably say I don't have the physical features of what they think a Latino person has (and are often surprised when I tell them I am) and at times, I've been around an individual who makes a derogatory comment about Latino's that I would say is inappropriate in nature.  When those instances have occurred, I tell them that I'm Latino and, without fail, their jaw drops and we get a few moments of awkwardness.  I'm convinced that they made the derogatory comment because they thought it was acceptable to make it in front of me because they thought I wasn't Latino and that I wouldn't say anything.

That said, I question the integrity of the article because of the picture they chose to use for it (a model portraying a cart girl in a skimpy outfit) and that the only hard evidence used in the piece was anecdotal evidence from the cart girls she interviewed.  The "reporter" herself said that there was only one truly uncomfortable moment over the course of three days and she didn't give any details about what the guy specifically said that made the moment uncomfortable for her.  I concluded she has a higher bar of sensitivity than I do only because she seemed uncomfortable about Tracy's joke which I felt was just slightly off-color.

Based on what is presented in the article, I don't believe it makes anyone that spends more than two seconds thinking about the article conclude from it that there's an issue.  I would say someone like me would be predisposed to agreeing with the author's indirect premise, but generally speaking, I think articles like these do more harm than good because if the integrity of the article is in question, I think some might question the integrity of the issue.

I don't expect a hard hitting expose in Golf Digest, but, if they're trying to argue that there's sexism on the golf course, I think they'd be better suited putting something together that has more substance with less of an attempt to sex it up.

Whew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this, too. :smartass:

    • Day 297: putted for about 25 minutes, working on 30 foot putts. Then went and hit balls for about an hour, just focused on getting the ball to go where I want it. Not my best session, but figured it out better at the end.
    • I do use a 7 wood. Love it! Do have a specific question about 7 woods?
    • @DrizZzY does. 😄
    • does anybody still use a 7 wood? if not what do you use instead>
    • Day (2 May 24) - somehow I missed posting both Tues and Weds practice sessions - so the streak ends and a new one begins…. Focus today was on ball first contact using the Divot Board for reference.   Worked with 7i, 9i and GW hitting hard foam balls.  Started hap hazardly and then settled back into my pre-shot setup.  Much more consistent in the latter.
