That most have been the one when he was in the rough. It was an amazing shot, the ball was above him so yeah I guess it looked pretty baseball like, but didn't seem overtly crazy.

Phil with another beautiful drive and approach. Looking really good.

Kuchar, Matsuyama, and G-Mac group is on one of the featured holes now.

Sorry, should have clarified that I meant crazy as in crazy good - haha.

It's good to see Fox follow golf broadcasting tradition with a melodramatic opening.

hahahah.

Henrik Stenson opens up with 2 birdies on the first 2 holes.

The guys on the internet feed for the featured group are decent.

The one guy just chastised Bubba for complaining about the putt not breaking how he wanted. Though Bubba did leave it 5 feet short.

LOL, Bubba is going to have a tough time on these greens unless they start to pick up speed. He's a terrible putter on slow-ish greens, leaves everything short.

I was going to say this Cole Hammer kid looks nervous as hell, but I suppose him crying after the tee shot says enough.  No matter how he plays, I hope he remembers that he's 15.  Making the Open is the accomplishment.

Seriously.

I mean, I'm sure he'd like to make the cut or win it but, to be honest, making it at 15 is pretty much winning it.

Pretty much.  Sat down and starting crying after the tee shot.  I don't think it was because of the result.  I just think he's a bit overwhelmed.  As he should be.  He's 15.

It is a bit strange to see so many sprinkler heads that close to the pin. I think it's just because you can't tell the difference between off the green and on the green.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
