If the last two weeks are any indication, Jordan's grooming his game up for the US Open. A lot of pars. Hasn't been making a ton of birdies, but hasn't been making a lot of bogeys. That's a good recipe for Chambers Bay where pars should get 'er done.

It's because many of his putts are doing a Lewinsky.

Well, it's moving day, and Spieth and Mahan are moving down the leaderboard. Spieth is all lip, no hole while Mahan looks rode hard and put up wet.

Was front and center for his tee ball on 17, such a spark. That missed putt doomed him. Also watched his t ball on 18. He's done this week but will garner another top 10. Too much pressure, everyone following him, it was nuts. Been comin here for years, never seen that. Even with Phil or Tiger. This kid is a true phemon.

Well, it IS his home crowd. I heard he reserved like 150 tickets for friends and fam. Who wouldn't be following Spieth in Texas?

Sure but lots of Dallas golfers have played the Nelson over the years. I've never seen a crowd that big follow a player before, it was fun.

One of the guys who finished T6, Jon Curran, was a teammate of Keegan Bradley's in high school. (Which was also the high school i went to, albeit a few years later at to much less fanfare.)

Must be pretty cool to win where you got married. Congrats to Steven Bowditch.

Steven Bowditch winning by 4 didn't exactly make for exciting television.  But honestly, this course and tournament is probably one of the least interesting to begin with.  The Nelson has fallen on hard times.  Oh well.  On to The Memorial.

I think Steven Bowditch winning at all didn't make for exciting television ;-)

This course AND this tournament?

The course is better than it once was. They immensely improved the areas around the greens - varying the contours, elevation, tightness and rough around the greens. They also improved the sightlines for players. And players like the Four Season on the grounds. As one can tell, except for the 14th hole, they greatly improved drainage of the course during flooding conditions. Other courses nearby are under water.

The tournament is well organized, but if your point is the field -- yes -- it does not get the field it did when Nelson was living. Tiger no longer appears and the European players return home to play. And I do not enjoy TV golf as much when homes and highways are involved in the camera work.

I do not know if that will change when the Coors-Crenshaw links style course is finished just south of downtown Dallas. Time will tell.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
