Wait can we admit that here?

I will for sure. I cry at every emotional event. Son loses his father, mom sacrifices to give him a better life? Shit. Losing his dad was enough to make cry/near-cry.

He did not appear to be in the postgame interview. He just became world number 1. I don't think he's too upset.

I think he knows world golf rankings don't mean shit.Media hype, gives the talking heads something to blabber about.

He'd rather have had the Major.

Well done Jason Day.

You're under estimating the importance and weight of the #1 ranking. Imagine: you are the best in your field, one that comprises millions. That's pretty awesome.

I disagree. Becoming world number 1 is a massive achievement. He also said in the interview becoming world number 1 was a personal goal. Yes he would rather have the major, but I would think the Open Championship was more gut wrenching for Spieth than this one.

Congrats to Lahiri. Top 5 best ever finish for a player from India. Top 10 for Finau although he faded. Keep it up!

This. :-$

In tennis, players usually acknowledge a good shot with the combo racquet - hand clap. All the time. You never hear John McEnroe saying what an amazing sport the player is for doing that.

Spieth already admitted he is ecstatic about becoming world #1 and that his focus had already shifted to that goal once he knew Day had it wrapped up and that he is very happy right now

Yelling after tee shots is one thing, but ... for the life of me, I don't understand ADULTS who insist on trying to touch famous people. It's weird and it's borderline creepy . Pretty sure if I was a pro golfer I'll deal with the bababooies if I can get rid of the constant roaming hands.

I'll say it is down right creepy. Just don't get it. Congrats to JD. He's been knocking at the door of Majors far too long not to win one.

Haha.

I wonder who else noticed Lalaaana's post.

They should have just given the Wannamaker to Spieth for good sportsmanship.Talk about sour grapes.

But it's all an act, right?

I don't think it's an act. But I do find it hilarious that the smallest act of sportsmanship becomes so big because people want Speith on a pedestal.

The media puts him on a pedestal, he himself doesn't. I don't take what the media says about him out on him personally. Same goes with Tiger and Rory when they went gaga over them.

Totally agree. I put 0 of this on Spieth.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
