Dashcam catches off-duty cop threatening to put 'hole in head' of driver

Sacco told the Medford Transcript that LeBert was a good policeman. He added, perhaps unfortunately: "If you work hard you do step on people's toes, which generates complaints."

I guess I must have a different definition of stepping on people's toes.. this is the kind of stuff you just have to see to believe.. I feel like the officer might have just forgotten what he was wearing maybe?  How can he expect that the citizen is just going to stop to talk to any Tom Dick and Harry that stops and gets out of the car in that manner?  Think about it, even normal police officers who want to give someone a citation have certain procedure and protocol that they follow.. This guy thinks he is in the wild wild west.. The funny thing is he keeps saying he is going to confiscate the camera, and I think he must of realized that he is in a lot of trouble after he was told "hey, by the way I have a camera"...  It must of felt like a hammer dropped on him..

I was going to actually ask if it was up your ally.. That's quite unsettling.. Don't take any wrong turns by accident. ;)

Even one policeman getting out of hand is too much. It seems we have too many such incidents, or they are well publicized now with cameras and social media.

When people criticize the citizen in these situations, my first question is "Who is the trained professional?"

It is evident that the training did not take, or the training is insufficient, or some professionals are not suited to the job.

Indeed, a small percentage of cops are 'bad cops.' But you can avoid them if you OBEY THE LAW.

I think it is fair for me to be able to make an honest mistake without someone threatening to put a hole in my head? I wonder how legal it was for the cop to do what he did since he was obviously in plain clothes and I'm thinking its a personal truck.. There are laws against unmarked police cars pulling you over, so never mind civilian cars with crazy detectives.. Let me just assume it is legal for him to do what he did, I should expect that I am treated with respect and I will deal with the courts either by paying the fine or challenging it, and not by being subjugated to that macho bullshit.. I broke a traffic violation, not robbing a store..

Even if you obey the law, some will stop you if they want.

It seems DWB is a death sentence sometimes, although I would bet that Whites are stopped a majority of time, and then other minorities.

I'm not defending the officer in the video or any others that have abused their power but step back for a moment and think about all of the interactions police have with citizens (some armed and dangerous) on a daily basis and we see a video like this at most once or twice a week.  We see, because that's what the media wants us to see, the worst of the worst in law enforcement because it's a hot issue today and these videos go viral in minutes.

Let's make sure we video every fast food worker and post videos every time they spit in food or throw food that is served on the floor or worse.  Let's video every politician and post every instance where they are making a back door deal or pocketing money on the side.  Of course there are bad cops, just as there are bad teachers, bad accountants, bad doctors, etc but no other vocation is under the microscope like cops are today (except for the dentist that shot Cecil).

I've been pulled over a few times and in my experience if you treat LEO's with respect you are treated in return with respect.

I completely disagree, the detective in the video pulled up jumped out and came at the guy in the car with his hand in his pocket. He is lucky he did not get run over, at that time he had no way of knowing he was a cop. If I'm not mistaken undercover cops have no authority? So I'm confused how he can issue the driver a citation.

I believe he was an off duty detective who witnessed the driver fail to stop at a traffic circle and potentially cause an accident.  The cop completely over reacted and should be suspended without pay, forced to attend anger management classes and fired if the investigation warrants but some here are making these isolated instances seem as though it's a chronic problem throughout the country which makes it only harder for good cops to do their jobs.

The critical lesson here is how the guy in the car acted. Although the officer was completely in the wrong, the driver stayed calm and didn't get hot headed and resistant. Had this exact incident happened to many other civilians we've seen in the news, cussing and yelling at the cop, getting out of the car and refusing to do what the cop asked and eventually a fight/shooting. This guy will take his case to the proper authority, state his case and everybody lives. This is a valuable lesson that many recent victims should heed.

I just think how often these incidents occurred before videotaping of the police became more common, lets be real everyone video on our cell phones is protecting us from police brutality more now than ever before.

They're also helping protect police officers as well. We all know there are bad cops out there. But there's a lot of bad civilians as well. I'm certainly not justifying these cops behavior as of late, but the fact is that just about all if not everyone of these recent tragedies stemmed from the civilian resisting, smart mouthing, fighting or disrespecting the officer. As I said earlier, play it cool and protest intelligently afterwards. You may not win your case, you may have to be persistent, but you're alive.

the fact staying alive after dealing with police officers is considered a triumph is the issue.

My answer to the bold is "Who is the professional in the room?"

Who supposedly has the training to ratchet down the emotions and place the citizen at ease?

The officers in these videos appear to have as many issues as the citizens.

While they are there to enforce the law and place the citizen at ease, they seem more intent on enforcing their authority in an aggressive manner on the citizenry.

We need officers who can control their emotions and are aware.

Perhaps the answer is better screening of candidates, higher quality officers, and better training.

This wasn't this guy's experience.

Really?

People deal with the police ALL THE TIME.

I saw four cars pulled over with the police by them yesterday. I still haven't heard about any of those in the news.

Absolutely right. However, fighting, disrespecting, and resisting are not the proper ways to show your disapproval of the cop/cops in question. Something needs to be done for sure, but in my suggestion all of these people would still be alive. There are thousands of cops who are wonderful and act professional only to be killed while controlling their emotions. STOP PROVOKING COPS. File your complaint and protest peacefully.

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
