(It's still August 3 here) After flubbing a few chips yesterday, I devoted a few (at least five, but not much more than ten) practice minutes this evening to working on chips at home while preparing some meals. I used a box that's going to hold books going to the library and chipped foam balls into it (or attempted to... I missed more than I made). Unfortunately, my living in a studio condo makes the ability to do this with real balls and/or on a lawn somewhat scary. Something for me to note when buying a house in a few years (look for a thread from me in a few years when I ask about what to look for in a house with regards to being able to practice golf at home). I didn't count towards the five minutes the time spent fetching the balls after hitting or the time I stopped to deal with cooking tonight's dinner or lunches for the week, for obvious reasons. Time spent rehearsing, setting up, and hitting did count. ----- I also did the "Practicing Long Bunker Shots" drill that is listed on p.102 of LSW tonight, without counting it towards the five minutes (would you allow me to use that towards this challenge anyway?). However, I modified the drill slightly in that my way of doing it involved some Scotch. But otherwise, I did the drill as listed in the book. If you don't know what drill I can modify to include Scotch, you need to buy and read LSW.

Went to the practice area and worked on the Pelz 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 swings with my SW.  Getting some strange distances, so I'm going to have to keep working on this one.

Then went over to the putting green and worked on the 3' , 6' drill (4 balls @ 3' from the ho le, 4 balls @ 6' from the ho le, make them all without missing or start over). Completed this drill on the first attempt.

After that did the 3' gap lag drill, 8 balls, 3' gaps, get them all to the hole and no more than 2' past.  If any don't make it to the hole, or get past 2', start over.  That drill took me 4 tries to complete.

Spent some time on the range working on my swing.

Going through the routine of getting a good backswing a few times. Hitting shots getting that right side through. Really liking how the swing is progressing. Shots are very solid. If I hit one left it's now a pull than a hook for the irons.

I also worked on my driver. I was spraying it a tad till I got it settled down and was hitting some nice shots. I need to focus on hitting my start lines. I had a flag about 100 yards down range I tried to hit the ball over and I did. Start line focus helped for me.

Spent about 20 minutes pitching and chipping around the green from different lies trying out different shot types.

Again I worked outside on my hitting mat with very slow swings from A4 to A5 to A6 ... I reread the practice slow thread (forget the actual description) and I had gotten away from the concept. Edit: Found what sent me down that road swing slower ... it was @saevel25 swing thread with the 5ks paper man ... practice at the edge of ability

Continuing to enjoy chipping into a box. This time I did it after dinner instead of during. I made a few more, but one was banked off a wall (again, foam balls) so that doesn't count.

Started on the putting green with the 3/6 drill.  Took me 8 tries to complete it.  4 times I failed on the last ball... too much pressure.

Then did the 3' x 8 balls lag drill.  That one took me 4 tries.

Then went to the range and worked on irons, focusing on the short irons and hitting to the pins.

8/5/15: Worked on taking yardage off of my 3h for about 45 minutes. A few pulls at the beginning, but at the end not so much straighter shots and good results...

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
