Is the new research that Michael Breed has done on the short game ground-breaking?

I hate it when these guys say new research. Why don't they just say, I learned this from other smart instructors who spent a lot of time, at least more time than MB did, figuring this out?

It's not like this stuff is done in sterile labs by overeducated pocket protector coke bottle eyeglass wearing scientists trying to publish publish publish. Oi.

OTOH, if he's providing good, info, I shouldn't complain, just getting pfffft over semantics.

I like M. Breed... he has to fill up a show and make it interesting that's not easy...and I think he does a good job the majority of time..I think when we hear something that has been said many times we tend to think why should it be repeated but there is always new golfers coming to golf and this is a first time for them...Plus sometimes we hear something we've forgot about...

There is no sport that has theΒ amountΒ of instruction inΒ writing that Golf enjoys....so one could say there's nothing new that can be said that hasn't been said before...

[quote name="jcjim" url="/t/84195/is-the-new-research-that-michael-breed-has-done-on-the-short-game-ground-breaking/0_100#post_1193182"] I like M. Its like that in churches too.Pastor will repeat same sermons to refresh or for new members.I was thinking same thing last night about how many things can they talk about in a golf show before it repeats itself.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing during the episode- "this looks familiar..."

I always watch the guy though, hate all the silly drills but he does have a show to do, can't sit there talking about steady head every week.

But I prefer the other swing show, with the older guy and young tamale.

in the end there is basically one formula that reigns above all others:Β  more practice =/correlated to:Β  better golf/lower scores/etc.

watching his tv show alone does nothing if you do not practice/play

I don't think one can say a word about Golf that applies toΒ all golfers...Outside of Hogans fundamentals and a few others...most all golf books have been rehashes of other books..

Seve happened to be very inventive in the short game and if M Breed says he learned something from Seve he won't be the first...

Do not doubt he is a good instructor, but his show is made up of bandaide lessons. Β Just an example, who in their right mind is going to a range with a large kid pool floater wrapped around their body?

Personally speaking, everytime I watch these guys on tv give lessons all it does is screws me up more. Β I finally stopped watching these shows and strictly listen to what my instructor at the course is teaching me and concentrate on that only. Β  There are some great online instructors as well, but again, I start getting away from what my instructor is teaching me and next thing I know I need an hour lesson fixing what I learned from these other lessons. Β To each his own though.

People here can name one book that is not a rehash that you should definitely get. You will see it mentioned here often-Well worth it. Disagree that Hogans book is necessarily good.-Created a lot of slicers.

"The expert golfer has maximum time to make minimal compensations. The poorer player has minimal time to make maximum compensations." - And no, I'm not Mac. Please do not PM me about it. I just think he is a crazy MFer and we could all use a little more crazy sometimes.

I disagree it was a bible back then especially with tour players....I know of no large number of slicers that you speak of.............

I think he's talking about average golfers. Most of them slice. He and I have both said the same thing about Hogan's book in the past as have other instructors I know. Not really on topic here though.

I not going to get into a discussion either but high handi's have sliced forever...I knew many golfers in the 60's till now not much has changed...I know of nothing in Hogans book that produces slices...I will say that from then till now theΒ amountΒ of slicers that are unable to hit anything else hasen't changed so who's to blame...not Hogans book

Weak grip. Spinning instead of sliding hips forward. There are two. But I agree it is :offtopic:
